Meet Red: Red is about a 2 year old boxer / black mouth cur mix (best guess) that weighs about 50 pounds. Red was found on the streets in rural Mississippi with her litter of puppies. The puppies have all been adopted and now it’s her turn. Red is a very friendly dog. Red is sweet and nice to have around. Red gets along great with other dogs, but we do not recommend that she live with cats. We would love for Red to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can run and play freely. Red is up to date on her shots and spayed. Red had been heartworm positive, but has completed treatments and is good to go! Meet Pearl: Pearl is about an 8 year old (as of December 2025) dachshund / small dog mix (best guess) that weighs about 20 pounds. Pearl was in a small shelter in rural Tennessee when we heard about her and were able to get her into our rescue. Pearl is the quintessential lap dog. Although estimated to be 8 years old, that hasn’t slowed her down. Pearl is not playful like a puppy, but she's not sedentary like a senior dog. Pearl was extremely shy when we first pulled her from the shelter, but has blossomed into one of the most sticky velcro dogs you could ever meet. Once you sit down --and sometimes before you sit down-- Pearl is in the chair with you. Pearl always prefers to be on your lap and if she's pushed out, she jumps right back in. Pearl can be a little yappy like some small dogs are and she can fuss at other dogs that compete for lap space, but her fussing is not threatening and can be amusing at times. We think Pearl would do best as an only dog. We think Pearl would probably be relatively quiet if she wasn’t competing for lap space. Pearl has been fine with cats that she has been around. Pearl is currently house trained to a doggie door and may need some patience while she transitions to another method. We would love for Pearl to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can run and play freely, but it is not a requirement. Pearl is up to date on her shots and spayed. Meet Sherman: Sherman is estimated to be about a 2 year old chihuahua / Jack Russel terrier mix that weighs around 10 pounds. Sherman was taken in by the Memphis animal shelter early in the summer. We were able to pull him from the shelter and get him into a foster home with our rescue. Sherman is a bit laid back and is perfectly happy sitting in your lap. Sherman is very friendly and is very playful. Sherman took quickly to learning the doggie door concept and we feel he would also be able to quickly navigate a more traditional house training technique. We would love for Sherman to have a home with a fenced in yard so he can play freely, however it is not a requirement. Sherman is up to date on his shots and neutered. Meet Midnight: Midnight is about an 8 year old dachshund mix (best guess) that weighs 17 pounds. Midnight was surrendered by her owner in rural Arkansas who didn’t want to care for her any longer. Midnight is about as affectionate and clinging as any dog can be. Midnight can't stand to sit alone when there's someone in the house with an unoccupied lap. Midnight is very gentle and loving with people. Midnight can be temperamental with other dogs. Most of the time Midnight is good with other dogs, but she can get yappy and grumpy with some other small dogs. Midnight has shown no signs of threat to any people. We would recommend Midnight live out her life as an only dog to be spoiled and get all of the attention, but she could work well in a home with much bigger canine housemates that could keep her in line. Midnight would make a great family member in a house with any number of people, including kids. Midnight is house trained to a doggie door and may need some patience while adjusting to a new method. Midnight is up to date on her shots and spayed. Meet Daisy: Daisy is about a 3 year old chihuahua / shepherd mix (best guess?) that weighs 16 pounds. Daisy was taken in by Animal Control in Memphis this fall. Daisy was underweight and neglected and had to be fattened up before she could go through surgery to be spayed. Daisy is a shy, laid back, wonderful, gentle and affectionate dog. Daisy doesn't bark and gets on well with other dogs in her foster home. Daisy would be great with kids of all sizes and will make a loving pet. Daisy is house trained to a doggie door and may need some patience while adjusting to a new method. Daisy is up to date on her shots and spayed. Lizzie is a 70 pound three year old that was found wandering around a northern Mississippi apartment complex after her owner was evicted and left her. She was spayed and treated for heartworms and has been living in foster care for a number of weeks now. She's very friendly with people and with other dogs. Meet Jake: Jake is about a 1 year old (as of July 2025) chiweenie or perhaps a rat terrier/weenie mix (best guess) that weighs about 17 pounds. Jake was found with 2 other dogs, that we presume are his brothers, dumped in a forested area in rural Tennessee. These poor babies didn’t have any food or water near them and were luckily rescued in time to rehabilitate to good heath! Jake is extremely playful, energetic and friendly. Jake gets along well with other dogs in the house he is being fostered in. Jake seems too small to be threatening to cats. Jake is a great little dog and will make a great family pet. Just before the ACO in Holly Springs retired, he caught these two. The whiz bang HS government at the time had no one to feed them so we saved their lives. They are 80 pounds of affection but very strong- not your typical little old lady dogs. Ask the little old lady that’s keeping them! One is a male and me a female. They’re very handsome as pit bulls go. We’re hoping that someone, somewhere will want them. Applications are being processed by Charlie's Crusaders.
