This page lists dogs that it has taken in with the goal of rehoming them in partnership with other rescues.

Hershey crossed the rainbow bridge today. He was a great dog that nobody that came to the shelter wanted. He was too old and HW+, but a great family up north took him in and gave him the best two years of his life. Fly high old man!

Meet Taylor Sniff:

She's reached senior citizen status in the doggie world and is now eligible for all the sympathy and appurtenances normally afforded to sweet older dogs. She was reported to animal control in the middle of the night when she got her back foot tangled in some fencing wire. In boarding she appeared to need medical attention both for her foot and lethargy. She's a bit arthritic but in good hands now and will live out the rest of her days in an environment more salubrious than the streets of Mississippi. She's somewhere north of ten years old and weighs in at 17 pounds. She's UTD and RTG and taking applications for a new owner now.

Introducing the olly quartet. Holly, Polly and Dolly were strays in northern MS. After an extensive search for their owners, the finders surrendered them to rescue. We don't know much about them yet, but we're getting around to that. Molly was a stray in a local shelter and came in about the same time as the others. All are going to need the help of another rescue to rehome them. They are all small and sweet and none are black.

Molly is as sweet as they come. She's an estimated 4 years old. She's HW+ and we're taking care of that. She was obtained from a local shelter after being taken in as a stray.

Holly appears to be either a very young dog or a very old puppy. Her personality is puppy-like, but she didn't come with a birth certificate.

Rambo is a year old mutt mix of some kind that was rescued from a rather spartan animal shelter in rural Mississippi. He's a super friendly dog, low energy dog. He'd be great in the house with or without other dogs. He needs and deserves a good home with good people.

Popcorn is a 4-5 year old Pit Bull (There's actually no such breed as Pit Bull, but I'm using it now because most people would call him a Pit Bull) that was found on an abandoned property in an unexplored region of Mississippi. In spite of having been castrated redneck style, he was as affectionate as a dog could be. He gets along with dogs, people, kids and cats. He's not very playful with other dogs, but he sure loves to play with a boiling pot. He will do this for hours and it's pretty fun to watch. He will make a great pet for someone that's a pit bull lover.

Jabberwocky was found on the side of the road in northern Mississippi having been , you guessed it, dumped by his red neck owner. He was one of 3 pups spotted by a group of people, but the only one caught. When the group went back with better trapping equipment, the other two had vanished. Jabberwocky, JW for short, is a very playful and smart little fellow. He's doggie door trained in spite of being captured only a week ago. He's having a blast in his foster home with a couple of dozen other dogs. He'll make a great family dog. Have you got lots of kids but no dog? Here's a great chance to rectify that!

Kate and Allie are a couple of litter mates picked up by the ACO in a rural Mississippi community. We took them in just before they were to be put down. They are about 25-30 pounds and young and very friendly. We're hoping to get them adopted before winter and before they finish growing.

Sunshine is about 3 years old and 35 pounds. She's high energy and playful. Her original owner kept her in a small kennel behind a barn with no one, dog or human, to interact with. She escaped and headed to one of our fosters where she simply refused to go back. This dog is a friendly and loving dog that deserves a loving family as much as any dog. She has a lot of years and love left and will make a great pet.

Jack is an 18 month old Chihuahua mix. He was surrendered to us after his owner died. He's a super affectionate little guy that is the first to hop in your lap and burrow into a comfortable snuggly position in which he will stay for as long as he can. He's a great little dog.

Daffy is the short haired member of the th*****me. He's admittedly a sympathy case. It seems that the rednecks have a use for used motor oil as a flea and tick preventative. It's unclear whether the hair will grow back, but with or without hair, he's a load of fun and a great lap dog.

Dani is the lone female of the th*****me. She's just as sweet as she looks. She's about 10 pounds and a bundle of fun.

Josie is a few weeks old and was found along with her mom living in the grounds of a highway exit. She is apparently the sole survivor of a litter of puppies born to this dog, who has been sighted off and on at this location for several months. She's still there since adult dogs are harder to catch than puppies. We're still trying on her and we're determined to give her daughter a good life in a good home.

Joy is a few weeks old puppy of some sort of breed. She was found on the side of the road along with Joy in northern Mississippi having been dumped there. She's now living in a real home with all the food she wants and probably more companions than she would like, but she'll never be lonely.

Bally is one of the 16 pups we got from Byhalia this last fall. You know, from the same place that gave us 25 pups in February of 2022! These are the oldest at 16 months. They were the most unsocialized, but we got to them just in time with the help of a volunteer foster. They were all named after casinos in Mississippi. Bally, is the only male of the group. He was the most socialized of the group to begin with. He's a wonderful dog now and will make a great pet.

Ivory is about a year old (as of May 2023) pit mix that weighs about 32 pounds. Ivory was found running around with two other strays in Tennessee. They were taken to a shelter where they were on the list for euthanasia when rescue organizations stepped up to take them in. Ivory came to Charlie’s Crusaders and the other two went to other rescues. Ivory is a very sweet girl that has never met a stranger. She gets along with everyone in the multi dog household. Ivory is not destructive and doesn't bark excessively. Ivory is house trained using a doggie door.

Saul was found in East Memphis by a former vet tech and current owner of a dog boarding facility. The owner didn't respond to any of the lost dog postings and the dog was surrendered to us for rehoming. Saul is a year old and 14 pounds. He is a very affectionate and playful bundle of energy. He's a loyal lap baby and a constant bed buddy.

Meet Rosie: Rosie is a 7 month old (as of March 2023) plott hound mix that weighs about 45 pounds. Rosie was abandoned in rural Mississippi near the home of a rescuer who luckily found her and brought her in to safety! She was taken to the vet and cared for and is currently in a foster home in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to meet more prospective families. Rosie is very sweet and gets along with people, dogs and cats. We are unsure if Rosie is house trained, but will be assessing. Rosie is up to date on her shots and spayed.

Speckles is a recently acquired stray that was abandoned in front of the dog groomer/rescuer in Holly Springs. She's young and we'll know more about her later.

Sally spent all of her life in northern Mississippi being ignored by her owner. She was finally surrendered to the animal control there and shortly thereafter pulled by Mutt Menagerie. She was transferred to my house when Memphis temperatures started approaching triple digits. With her long hair, she wouldn't have lasted long in an outside kennel. She also needed socializing with people. She's not a proper pet. She runs from anyone approaching her. When cornered you can pet her for as long as you like, she will not bite. You can pick her up and carry her to a crate or anywhere else, she will not bite or even growl or threaten to bite. It's just something she doesn't do. She plays well with other dogs and appears normal with the exception that she's not a pet that wants to be petted. She needs someone who is attracted to her looks and is willing to be patient with her personality. Dogs like this, in my experience, will slowly become socialized to people in time, but it's a lot of time. We're hoping someone with more time and patience than I have will come along and take up her cause.
