It’s $5 Friday and we're asking for $5 donations for Percy's medical care.

This breathtakingly handsome kitty is Percy. But breathtaking may be an understatement - he’s having some trouble breathing due to a recent diagnosis of asthma. It ain’t easy being wheezy!

During his first few weeks at PAWS, we noticed Percy was constantly congested. Even after treating for an upper respiratory infection, Percy’s wheezing did not go away. During his vet visit, they radiographed his lungs and determined Percy has asthma. During this examination, a possible polyp or growth was also found in his nasal passageway.

The next step in Percy's care is to perform a rhinoscopy to better examine and determine the composition of the growth. After this is completed, we'll determine the next step in his treatment.

The estimate for this procedure is around $2,500-3,000 and this is where we need your help.

We’d like to welcome Minnie to L4P! Minnie is a three and a half year old female Vizsla, and as you can clearly see, she is GORGEOUS!! Minnie ended up in rescue through no fault of her own, and we have promised to find her the stability in life that she needs!

We are still getting to know Minnie and will need some time to get her to the vet and to figure out what her ideal forever family looks like. From what we know of Minnie so far, she is an awesome pup. She is house trained and will tell you when she needs to go outside, she’s crate trained and slept great in her crate last night at her first night in foster, she’s an easy feeder and would rather graze than inhale her food, she is fairly timid and would do better in a low key home without younger kids or a lot of excitement, she absolutely needs a fenced yard, she gets along great with other dogs but can be nervous with dogs that are overly in her face, she’s on the smaller side and is too thin right now, and have we mentioned she’s absolutely beautiful?!

It will be a little bit before Minnie is ready to be adopted, but if you are interested in being considered for her adoption please Message us! We would like Minnie to go to a family with prior experience with Vizslas or other similar breeds, such as Weimaraners.

Harold had a week away in a foster home, and after 282 days at the shelter, he was so in need of that break. It also gave us a glimpse into his “at home” persona. ❤️

Here’s what his foster mom had to say:
"We had the pleasure of hosting Harold for a week at home. Old boy needed a solid shelter break and he seemed grateful for it. We can not lie, he has an initial impulse is to say "this is mine, and this, and this too" with a claiming ti**le, BUT after the first 12 hours he STOPPED! YES SIRREE he stopped. No potty accidents in the house. Relaxed quickly into the indoor life of cushy couch, TV, toys and playfulness that included arm wrestling and forced kisses.
He still pulls a little on leash walks but only because we failed to put on his proper gear (harness). He was quiet in the house, not at all destructive, and got along with our dogs. Oh, Harold will chase a ball! Not saying he'll bring it back every time, but who knew!!
Overall- perfect guest! Good Boy Harold! Where are your people??? They're missing out.”

Dreamboat Harold is a six-year-old mixed breed, waiting for his big break at our campus!

We wish we had good news to share, but unfortunately this is some of the worst news possible. We are struggling to put this into words, but so many of you have followed our boy R***r’s journey so we felt we needed to give an update. This Evening R***r’s tiny, frail body gave up on him. He fought so hard for us, and we fought so hard for him, but in the end it was all just too much for him. Devastated doesn’t even begin to explain how our team feels this morning. We love all of our dogs fiercely, but with R***r it was just different. He was special and everyone who met him saw it right away.

After everything he’d fought through, it was the Heartworm disease that ended up taking him from us. The Heartworm caused a pulmonary embolism, and his little heart couldn’t take anymore. Our vet said she’s never seen a Heartworm infestation as bad as R***r’s. Heartworm disease is so easily prevented and it’s a punch in the gut every time we take in or hear about another dog that is Heartworm positive. If you don’t give your dogs Heartworm prevention, PLEASE talk to your vet and get them started on some sort of prevention. We are literally begging you, there’s absolutely no reason for any dog to have to go through this. Heartworm slowly, and painfully, sucks the life out of dogs, and it doesn’t have to happen.

We are hopeful that we will eventually be able to see this as a blessing that he is no longer sick, but right now it just hurts too much. We are thankful for all of the support from all of you through donations and positive thoughts. We are especially thankful for our amazing vet Dr. Carrie, all of the staff at Sarasota Animal Hospital, and the staff at Suncoast Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center. We love you R***r. More than you could have ever understood. Rest in peace sweet boy. ❤️😭💔

Bouncy, Mavi, Goldie-Hawn, and Suzie all enjoyed their walks out on the walking trails at our Dripping Springs Campus!

Volunteers and staff are able to utilize these walking trails to get dogs out of their kennels to get one-on-one time and exercise. Interested in becoming a PAWS volunteer?

🚨 Happening Now! 🚨

Two of our staff members are at Big Heart For Big Dogs Rescue right now helping to save lives. With over 1,400 animals in their care, their dedicated staff put out a plea for help. We are here to answer that call.

With your help, PAWS plans on taking in 38 pets, including these sweet faces, and bringing them back to Hays County. The pets will be placed in our adoption program and receive any medical care they need.

Saving lives takes teamwork. No single shelter can do it all or by themselves. They need the help of other shelters and rescues, as well as the help of the community. That is why we need YOUR help.

Now more than ever, FLORIDA shelters are overcrowded and overcapacity. In 2021, over 55,000 dogs and cats were euthanized in Florida.

We know that number is hard to digest. We know it is hard to hear. It is because of this, though, that PAWS remains dedicated to saving the lives of cats and dogs in Florida. Although we are laser-focused on helping pets local to our community and around Florida, we cannot ignore other Florida shelters that need assistance. Our hearts are big, and our desire to help is even bigger.

That is why, on October 5th, two of our staff will be driving to one of the largest intake shelters in Florida, which is currently overcapacity and needs help now. SPCA has hundreds of animals in its care and takes in dozens more each day. Although they have some of the most dedicated and passionate employees, they cannot keep up. With your help, PAWS plans on taking in as many pets as we can and bringing them back to Hays County. The pets will be placed in our adoption program and receive any medical care they need.

Saving lives takes teamwork. Period. No single shelter can do it all or by themselves. They need the help of other shelters and rescues, as well as the help of the community. That is why we need YOUR help. Help us save the lives of Florida's pets in need. Together, we can help decrease the number of pets dying in 2022. It starts here.

PAWS Pet of the Week is... DEUCE!!🥳

Deuce has been with PAWS off and on since August of 2021.

Deuce is an instant favorite for many staff and volunteers because he is so gentle and goofy. He loves to be petted and it only takes a few seconds before he will collapse to the floor, roll over, and ask for chest rubs. His very short fur is gleaming and feels like velvet to the touch. Just like velvet, his fur is sort of two-toned, black or brown depending on the light.

He’s a pretty laid-back dog that enjoys lounging in the yard, in his kennel, or on a couch at home - but he always does it with such style. Deuce quickly makes canine friends and can get almost any dog to play with him. He is not the most elegant of dogs and due to some minor neurological issues has a gait similar to a day-old baby giraffe.

An ideal home for Deuce would be with someone who is home most of the day, he has shown some signs of separation anxiety in previous homes. He would prefer a female dog companion and doesn’t mind cats (although flighty cats interest him a little too much). Deuce is housetrained and easy to walk. He’s even done well at dog-friendly establishments.

We adore this soppy boy!

Dahlia arrived at PAWS in June with a case of Demodex mange which caused her to be nearly hairless. After treatment and a few months in foster care she looks almost completely different! Just look at that transformation! ❤️

Dahlia’s foster family decided that they couldn’t live without her and officially adopted her. Dahlia is living it up with her new forever family 🐶❤️
