We just finished up an inspection and load calculation and estimate and emailed the proposal. 6+ hours of work just to get a proper calculation and estimate out the door. Then clients ask "why does it cost so much?" A lot goes into inspecting- calculating- pricing- designing- a system. Then there is the matter of gathering all of the information and creating an understandable proposal and estimate which contains a scope of work, an exhibit A which shows the list of materials to be used and a declaration which is my price to do the work as described. Whew. I am glad it is done. I hope the client doesn't faint.

Please don't take this the wrong way but, My service rates ARE very low. $80 for an in home service call is not making me any money. If someone is asking for less then they are losing money and will find another way to make it back.
Quick breakdown: Truck insurance for 3 trucks per month about $500. Work comp insurance for 2 about $500 per month- Fuel for 2 trucks $400 per month(during slow months) Payroll and withholdings for 2 employees $2800 per month (without OT)- This does not include parts/inventory/maintenance and repairs/ rent and utilities/ or software/licenses or permits.
We make a 15-20% margin on our service and install tickets. That 500 service bill we just handed you cost us 400-425 out of pocket to provide to you. Please be kind when we quote you a price. We are trying to be as gentle as possible and still make a living. If you delay your payment or refuse to pay, you have taken food off of our tables and made it difficult to pay our vendors and employees. Honest and experienced technical service at your home or business is not cheap folks. Please be kind.

The cold weather is here! Be sure to warm up your home during the day to keep your heat pump system from struggling overnight. Temperatures in the 40's or below make it difficult for your system to produce temperature. Warming the house throughout the day help to reduce overnight run times and defrost cycles.

Are you planning to have your heat pump tested for the heating season? Did you know that the outdoor ambient temperature MUST be below 70*F for the heat pump function to work properly? Testing in the cool mode does not ensure proper heating component function. If you have Gas or all electric, then by all means test away! If you have a heat pump you need to schedule super early in the a.m. or later in the season. (High temp today 81*F)
