Holy Shih tzu, can you believe it’s almost the 4th of July…times flying like a basset hound’s ears in the wind!🐶💨

Summer temps are here🥵

It’s no surprise that Florida gets pretty warm in the summers! While exercise is still important for your dogs, it’s also important to keep hotter temperatures in mind. Dogs have no mental “stop” like humans do and will play themselves into heat exhaustion. Here are some tips and things to look out for!⬇️

➡Schedule walks early in the morning or later in the evening. Try to avoid mid-day, prime temperature outdoor activity.
➡Keep in mind that dogs’ paws are more sensitive and asphalt is typically 15 degrees hotter which can burn paws! Asphalt can be up to 125 degrees on a 77-degree air temperature day.
➡Aim for scattered, shorter periods of activity
➡Schedule extra indoor, enrichment activities to keep them stimulated
➡Purchase a cooling mat or cot for better air flow and more relaxing temps!

Summer should be a fun time for everyone! That means keeping everyone healthy and safe at all times. This is a great time to get creative and give your dog a change in routine or scenery🌲
