Daisy is our Medical Center's office dog today! She is the gentlest, tail-wagging-est, most smiley-faced dog you could ever hope for! In fact, she would LOVE to go on a Doggie Date with you! She's great on a leash, and is absolutely fascinated by everything she sees out in the world. When she's alone with you, she'll mash up next to you and stare into your eyes until you give her the best thing ever, your attention... and lots of pets ;-)

Did you know that SPCA Florida has some of the most affordable spay/neuter prices in Central Florida? But does low cost equal low quality? Not at SPCA Florida. Our staff surgeons are extremely skilled in order to spay/neuter at least 30 patients a day. And our nursing staff has to be just as skilled to safely anesthetize and recover this high number of patients.

Some low cost clinics do not automatically prescribe pain medications for spays and neuters. At SPCA Florida, postoperative pain control is ALWAYS provided for EVERY patient. All patients receive injectable pain medications prior to recovery. All dogs are sent home with medications for pain relief, while cats are given long-acting injections for pain control. In addition, every spay and neuter includes an ecollar!

We offer affordable fees and encourage pet owners to have their pets spayed or neutered at a young age to avoid the risk of accidental pregnancy. In addition, spaying and neutering will help prevent other medical conditions such as mammary tumors, perineal hernias, perianal adenomas, and will completely eliminate the risk of pyometra (uterine infection) and testicular cancer.

All of you have been so great about adopting so many dogs from us recently, we had some extra space in our kennels and Jess (Randa was busyyyyyyy) went and filled up the van with good boys and girls and brought them to SPCA Florida to be checked out and hopefully up for adoption soon! Some of you have noticed that we've been only posting dog adoptions recently. Turns out cats are a bit harder to get to pose for the camera... or do anything you want them to, really ;-) We asked the Adoptions Team to try to get some cat adoption photos this week and they delivered! FL SARC (State Animal Resource Coalition) a division of SPCA Florida worked with 14 Humane Organizations to recover dogs who were living in the woods with a homeless woman.

Local Florida shelters being overwhelmed with dogs displaced by Hurricane Debby, made it difficult to find placement until Cat Depot in Sarasota stepped up! The cat rescue turned their education center into a temporary kennel for the dogs to receive assessments, veterinary care and shelter.

Prior to the transport, dogs were running loose on the property of an elderly caretaker who become ill and was taken to a hospital. The dogs, once covered in ticks, and living in filth, are now being cared for at Cat Depot until August 30. Collaboration efforts between 14 Florida and National Organizations provided vaccines, medical care, spay and neuter services and eventual transfer to humane organizations where they will be rehomed.

The multi-day trapping, transport, and temporary shelter effort involved over 20 FL SARC volunteers and over 300 hours . We can’t say enough about this extraordinary group of heroes.

Yesterday was Chester's one year anniversary at SPCA Florida. We marked the day with frozen treats and extra snuggles out of the kennel but... this isn't really cause for celebration. As much as we try to make Chester's stay here as comfortable as possible, with frequent walks and time out in the yard and visits from volunteers, at the end of the day, Chester goes to sleep in his kennel. Alone. For 365 days.

Chester is 7 years young and is such a great dog! Surely his family is out there, looking for a good-natured pup who loves playing tug-of-war, shaking your hand, and curling up next to you on the couch for movie time. If that family is you, please come get your good boy today!

Matuto and Dixie are the best of friends. Both are just over a year old and love to just curl up in a soft cat bed and groom each other all day long ;-)

Their beginnings here were a little rough, Matuto was a stray with a fractured tooth and a large neck wound and Dixie was surrendered with a fractured leg that had to be amputated. But they found each other here at SPCA Florida and now are happy, healthy, and ready for adoption! There must be someone out there who wants to adopt two sweet cats with a special bond! Following Hurricane Debby, Hamilton County Animal Control responded to a call for assistance. Upon arrival, they found 20 dogs needing immediate help. Their elderly owner had fallen gravely ill and needed to be taken to a medical center for treatment leaving the dogs with no one to care for them.

The dogs, who all require medical care, needed to be removed from the property as soon as possible. Hamilton County Animal Control in conjunction with Florida State Animal Response Coalition (FLSARC) and the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations (FAAWO) reached out to Cat Depot for assistance.

Odd pairing, right? Well, after exploring many options for placement, Steve, FLSARC Manager, remembered that Cat Depot had a purr-fect location to temporarily house the dogs while they underwent their initial medical exams and behavioral assessments. And with that, Cat Depot has now officially “gone to the dogs!”

Our adoptable dogs would LOVE to go to the park or for a walk around your neighborhood, or you could even take them to a pet-friendly café or brewery! Just drop by the shelter, no appointments necessary. We'll give you a leash, waste bags, and some treats. Once we get to know you and your comfort handling dogs we'll match you with a dog who is eager to get out of here for the day and maybe catch the eye of someone looking to adopt!

And that's a wrap! Almost all of the 120 animals we had here are home with their families and there's just a few left waiting to get picked up. It was a LOOOOONG day (and yea, it's just 3pm now) but worth it! None of these pets are ever going to have an "accidental litter" and we're so happy to help!

It's Pitty & Kitty Spay and Neuter Day again! Wanted to show how in one day we are spaying and neutering 120 Polk County pets. This reduces pet overpopulation and prevent unwanted pets from being euthanized when space runs out at the county shelter.

These three hooligans are John, Paul, and Ringo. They're Chihuahua mix puppies and getting them to stay still enough to get some video of them was like, well, herding cats ;-) Anyway, these three pups with the auspicious names are available for adoption! Look at this sweetie pie! Chester is a 7 years young boxer mix who is coming up on his 1-year anniversary in our care, which is... not an anniversary you want to get to. We're not sure why no one has adopted him yet, he's a love bug who cherishes his stuffed toys and will bring them right up to you to show them off ;-) He's also a quick study and loves to be taught new tricks! Cheese Bug here is such an adorkable 6 month old goober with cute little toe beans! She also is pretty much fully grown at about 5 pounds so she’ll be forever a kitten! She does have an extremely hard to pronounce disorder called Megaesophagus. But don’t worry, it just means she has to eat kinda standing up to help her digest. To say we have a lot of kittens and mamas under our care these days is... understating it a bit. Most aren't adoptable yet because they're underage or need medical attention. In the meantime, we need food and cat litter to keep these wee ones and their moms healthy and clean until they can find their forever homes. If you have the means, could you please donate Sheba or Fancy Feast pate cat food? Also we really need 20-pound bags of non-clumping cat litter. We are so, so grateful for anything you can give!

Next Friday, August 16th we're spaying/neutering pit-bull type dogs for just $75! This event is for pets belonging to income-qualified residents of Polk County. Randa was loading her van full of puppies for an offsite event and some of our volunteers were loading a different van with much-needed dog, cat, and horse food to be sent to areas affected by Hurricane Debby when the skies opened up and dumped on all of them today!

Meeeeet.... Sadie! She is a 50 pound, 1 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog. She is absolutely the SWEETEST. If you come visit her, she will stare soulfully into your eyes and sit fully in your lap. Her only wish is to be loved and she has plenty of love to give! She is good on a leash, good with other dogs and good with kids! Come get this unbelievably great dog today!
