My faithful and constant friend. Black Turk Hammer. 9 years old. His favorite place is wherever I am. If that's in the middle of the kitchen floor, then so be it. 😂 (yes, those are his muddy footprints)

Loose leash walking with miss Electra. It still takes a lot of patience just to get the collar on and out the door, 😂, but she's smart and learning!

Mr. Saber not nailing me in the face. 😂 I'd dearly love to find him a good home. I have not gotten him as socialized as I would like. He is a LOT of dog. Smart, loyal, but a LOT.
He would probably prefer a woman but I'm not sure it would matter. Must be very experienced. No small children. Not sure on small dogs. He gets along well with the females. The biggest issue is, he can jump. Lol. I mean...straight up jump. I'd suggest a 6 foot fence. Please don't comment on this post, but if very serious, send me a private message.

Good Ole Facebook is trying to freeze my page. Probably because I'm trying to re home a dog, and we sure wouldn't want a dog to find a good home. So, if I loose the appeal, please just friend my personal account. If I don't accept you right away, please send me a message saying you followed my Berndt Hills Rottweiler page. Thank you!

I have a 3 yr old Hammer x Uschi neutered male who needs a new home. Good with cats. Has reportedly snapped at strangers in his house when they get in his face. Good with strangers when hiking. His home situation has changed and he is feeling stressed. Please PM me and we can discuss.

**** What People Don’t Tell You About Training Your Dog ****
-Chad Mackin
It’s been a long day. I’m tired. I’m run down and I’m dealing with 1000 minor stressors. Along with the normal every day aches and pains that age and injury have earned me, my shoulder and neck are sore, and swear I’ve cleaned at least 100 dog messes and it’s barely 1:00.
As I walk through the kennel, the dogs are mostly quiet, but there’s one persistent loud bark. I hate the sound of barking dogs even on a good day. Today is not a good day. I can feel my jaw clench with every bark. I try hard to keep a positive mood. It’s a battle and I can tell I’m slowly losing it. I get to the kennel I’m looking for and get the dog out. He can barely contain himself. He knows we are going outside. I can tell he wants to charge ahead, but he knows the drill. He knows how to walk nicely. We’ve worked on this already. His desire to get it right is in conflict with is desire to get outside. Getting it right wins, but just barely. I sigh. I’m pleased because today is better than yesterday. But I’m frustrated too. I thought he’d be further along today. I hear Dick Russell’s voice echo in my head “There’s no such thing a bad progress, Chad.” I find some comfort in that. We make our way outside. It’s December in Illinois. The air is sharp and a gust of wind will take your breath away. The dog finds a place to empty his bladder immediately. As I wait for him to finish, my mind turns from one stressor to the next. I can feel anxiety taking hold. As the dog finishes he looks up at me expectantly. “Well,” he seems to be saying, “we can start any time you’re ready.”
Alright then. I look him in the eye, and say “Let’s go.” Then I start walking away. He rushes to catch up to my left leg. He is watching me nicely. I make a right turn and he follows in his graceful stride. He no longer looks conflicted. He wants to play this game. I stop. He sits next to me. “Not bad,” I think. I say “yes,” and give him piece of kibble and a scratch on the head. I start walking again. He follows as I speed up and slow down, turn left or right or stop. He makes minor mistakes here and there. I take mental note of them as I notice them, and try to make fix them in turn.
For the next 20 minutes or so, he and I have a conversation. I work to create more clarity in what I’m telling him. He works to better understand what I’m telling him. Through this process, we both become better versions of ourselves. This only works if we are both trying.
For those 20 minutes, there is no stress. The cold wind passes unnoticed. The ache in my shoulder that has been pestering me all day seems insignificant. Not once in that time do those stressors I couldn’t stop thinking about earlier even cross my mind. For those 20 minutes, I am fully with the dog. We are both in the moment. There are no problems except the need for the dog and I to do the dance a bit better or learn a new step. There are problems with my timing. My fidgeting hands sometimes muddy up my message. The dog gets momentarily distracted and I have to work on keeping his focus more consistently. These are the problems that confront me now. Hell, they aren’t even really problems. They are more like challenges. We both are enjoying them, they demand attention, but don’t overwhelm. It makes us closer.
When people talk about dog ownership, and how much dogs improve their lives, they often talk about the dog’s unconditional love. Sometimes, they romanticize the dog’s ability to keep our secrets. Or they’ll talk about the warm feeling that only the sound of a tail thumping a happy greeting on a wood floor can bring. And of course there’s the fact that when you’ve had a rough day, the dog wants nothing more than to put his head on your lap and quietly sit with you until you’re feeling better. These are all beautiful things that dogs bring to the table. And these things alone make sharing a life with a dog worthwhile.
But, all of those things get better when we train our dog. Not because the dog is trained (though that certainly will improve our relationship) but because when we train a dog in a way that gets his enthusiastic cooperation, we connect in a unique and deep way. The world recedes and the conversation is everything. When we train, we have the choice. We can see the dog as an obstacle or a partner. If we make him a partner, we will learn to listen. We will learn empathy. We will be forced both figuratively and literally, to consider his point of view. We will become more aware of our own movements and better able to to read his. We will learn to recognize the not the moment he does something we don’t want him to, but the moment before he does it. We will learn to read his moods and he will learn to read ours. To do it well takes all of our attention. Even after years of work, it will still take all of our attention. And this, my friends, is the best thing they give us. They allow us the opportunity to get lost in the conversation that is dog training. They allow the daily irritations of life to disappear for a while.
Training your dog doesn’t have to be a task. It can become the best part of both of your days. So make the choice, to have a training conversation instead of lecture. Be fully with your dog and get him fully with you. If you do that your dog will always be improving and more importantly so will you.

Did you know....
Dogs very rarely have food allergies, and if they do, the allergies will usually manifest as hives and trouble breathing.
Red skin, itching, and red inflamed ears is yeast. Yeast is a beast to get rid of, but it's definitely possible.

Here is the best protocol I have found. It is from Lew Olson's book 69 Nutrition. Available on Amazon.
The best treatment for yeast is 1) bath in an antifungul shampoo, every other day for 3 bathings. Rinse with a solution of 4 tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of water and leave on for 5-10 minutes. You can make a paste of the baking soda and apply directly to affected areas. Also treat the ears with zymox (find on amazon) for ten days, wait a week and repeat. Yeast breeds and lives around the a**s, eyes, ears, feet and any other moist area. Wash bedding every other day. Use Keto wipes around face and itchy areas. You can use athletes foot spray on the feet and belly (tin actin is good, yeast is fungus). Some clear up quickly, some take months. Keep environment and dog clean for several weeks or months. Then you can use regular shampoo, but I rinse with a mix of 3/4 water to 1/4 white vinegar and keep using the athletes foot spray.

Saber and I went on our walk today. He couldn't help but get in the water. Lol. He's such a smart and good boy, but he's a lot to handle at times lol. Mostly keeping him from giving me kisses on the face. I wouldn't mind so much but he doesn't aim very well and about knocks me out. 😂😂
