When we first moved to our farm, there were no fenced in pastures. There were pieces ~ a rusted fence here, strings of barbed wire there ~ but nothing that would work to provide a safe place for our sheep. Yesterday, we finished fencing in our "system"! We have a separated quarantine pasture that can link to the first pasture through a series of gates. That little pasture is connected to a dry lot, common area that leads into the barn. From the dry lot, we have an alleyway that connects into the second and third pastures. With all of these connected spaces and passageways, we can begin rotating pastures to increase the health of our grasses and our animals! I'm loving what we've created, but so far, the sheep aren't impressed. In fact, about half of them won't even look down the alleyway! Apparently, we're into phase two of this building project ~ convincing the sheep that it's a good thing! π

Apparently, it was first things first for Sissy. After he explored just a bit, he went right over to the gate and head-butted Cricket. Then I caught this on video. Let's hope John tightened those bolts well enough! π
It's Sissy's Freedom Day! Good morning, everyone! Sissy was calling very early this morning, so we were out right after breakfast and released him from quarantine. He looks quite happy, don't you think? βΊοΈ
We made it! 30 minutes together, and most of it calm! I'm thinking, though, that we have a new leader of the pack ~ Willa is taking on Bella for top sheep! It's totally surprised me, but it's clearly their call. We've moved slowly, but it's paying off for sure! Tomorrow, another joins us in quarantine ~ Sissy. I will post pictures as soon as I can. For today, though, good work Mary, Cricket, Duchess, Bella, Willa and Bandit! β€
Willa is trying SO hard to understand what these waving cat tails are that keep running past her! π
π (Sorry for the video quality; I was shooting into the sun!)
Happy Friday, Everyone! What a great way to start the weekend ~ we put the finishing touches on the permanent quarantine pasture this morning. It's all ready for our two newest residents to arrive! π₯° We don't have a date yet, but will soon! We'll let you all see the first pictures. Have a wonderful weekend!
Lots of transitions this week for our sheep! First Wilma, and then a bit of a power struggle for Bella and Mary. Bella has clearly taken over as lead female of our small flock ~ hmm...I wonder if those who study mother-daughter relationships watched sheep, too?? π

Happy Friday, Everyone! Miracle is relieved to be through her spay surgery! She did wonderfully ~ in fact, the vet said that the only time she stopped purring and playing was when she was actually under anesthesia! Here she is the morning after, waiting for Vega to come play! πShe's inside until tomorrow morning, back to the barn then, and released from her crate on Wednesday. We'll definitely let you all know what happens then! Have a great weekend, all!
"Oh my goodness! What's that beautiful light coming in the window?? It's the SUN!!" Midnight (and the parakeets!) wish everyone a happy beautiful day! π
