13 years ago we saved two dogs that would change my life forever. I remember seeing this video and BAWLING. We had just started Protecting Paws and were only 2 months in. I called Monique and begged her to let me pull them. They had been in a shelter for 2 years as evidence. TWO YEARS. She was hesitant as they had been used in a huge fighting ring in Georgia and we obviously couldn’t meet them before pulling them and arranging transport, but she agreed. I bawled again. I was so damn happy to be able to help them. 12 years ago today, they arrived in MN. Cinnamon had burn marks and scars all over her body. She was in the worst shape I’ve ever seen a dog. But, she LOVED people. She did this little dance to play where she would put her two front legs up and paw at you and her little butt never stopped wiggling. She wouldn’t walk through doorways. She was scared of most noises. She had never seen a bed. We had to put them in boarding temporarily while we found the perfect fit. Shortly after their arrival, Brandy found a foster, and shortly after that, a forever home. We had a ton of people volunteering to go see Cinnamon at boarding. Take her for car rides. Walks. Anything. Everyone loved her. And then, on Easter, Robyn text me and asked if she could take her home for the day. That day turned into the rest of her life. Three years ago, Cinnamon crossed the rainbow bridge and I know all of our fur kids met her at the gate. Every time this memory pops up on my Facebook, my heart shatters and smiles a little at the same time. We may have saved Cinnamon that day from the shelter, but my God this dog did so much more for us than we did for her. She taught us that our past does not determine our future. And that good things can come to those who work for it. She taught us that although things are scary, if we learn to face our fears, and really work on things, we can be the best version of ourselves. She taught us that if we love unconditionally, there are no obstacles too big to conquer. Cinnamon fought for the first 5 years of her life. Literally. But she had lived in a home with other dogs and with children since Robyn and Zackery took a chance on her. I loved you, so much, Cinny girl. I’m so glad we found you. I’m so glad Robyn and Zack took a chance. And I’m so glad I got to be apart of your life. You are what makes me keep going. You are the true definition of rescue. And you, are one of my biggest inspirations. ❤️💔🥺

Who is ready for some GREAT news?!?! Tomorrow is Ghost’s last heartworm treatment! These past several months have been a lot of appointments, a lot of meds, a shot today, and one tomorrow, and a whole lot of love and laughs! But our guy is almost ready for his new home!! We know that finding a deaf, 10 year old bully breed is not a small task, but if you met him, you would instantly fall in love! He would do best in a home without cats and slow intros to other dogs, and one with older kids (only because of the deafness). Ghost is so goofy and LOVES a good snuggle sesh! He’ll lick ya til his heart is content. He does well in the car, is potty trained, crate trained, and the best part about a deaf dog? He rarely barks and doesn’t wake up anytime someone rings the doorbell or comes into the room!

Happy Wednesday! Today Ghost went in for his first of 3 heartworm shots. While at the vet, Dr. Larry noticed Ghost’s sc***um is just not healing the way it should from his neuter. He thinks the best thing to do is to remove it. So. Here we are. Asking for help. Again. We had the tattoo event on Saturday and raised $400.. which is enough for about 1.5 of his heartworm shots. So, we need your help with ideas on how to raise more and if you’re able, with donations for our sweet boy. If you have any ideas please let us know! Happy Sunday! Couple things! We are wrapping up the last of the prep for the tattoo event on Saturday! We are SO excited!!!! Please remember that the event is first come first serve from 12-8. Each tattoo is $100 CASH ONLY and PLEASE tip your artist as they are volunteering their time and talent to help us raise money for Ghost! We’ll have swag bags for each person who gets a tattoo! And if you get a tattoo AND/OR a caricature at the event, you’ll get a raffle ticket (for each service you purchase) to be entered to win a smart watch (Apple or Android compatible). We’ll also be selling lunch (hotdog/chips/beverage). If you are interested in a caricature (they are AMAZING), just bring a pic of your pet to the event and you’ll go home with some

Also, typically I adopt a few families for Christmas. This year we decided to make it a group effort and we are going to “Adopt A Cop”! We’ll be adopting 3 police stations: Jordan, Bloomington, and Burnsville! Between the 3, there are approximately 115 officers! We’ll be filling stockings with little goodies for each officer. The list of items we are looking for are:
Hand warmers
Individually wrapped Beef Jerky
Individual snack sized bags of nuts
Starbucks/Caribou GC ($10 max per officer)
Energy Drinks
Grandmas Cookies
Energy Bars
Gatorade
Chapstick
Packs of gum

We also would like to put thank you’s with each stocking. If you have children or teach students and would like to help us with these, we would appreciate some hand made cards for each officer!!

Alright, I know you all are probably sick of us begging. But, we just stopped to drop off formula, bottles, wet food, a collar, and other supplies to the kitty at the vet. Last night when I was watching the Tyson fight, I was scrolling through Facebook (I really have got to stop doing that!). I saw this kitty and didn’t know anything other than it looked to have a broken jaw and a Good Samaritan found it and brought it to the vet. I assumed it had been hit by a car. Here’s the kicker. The vet doesn’t think it was hit. They believe it was hit repeatedly with a hammer because of the locations of the trauma. A hammer!!!! This poor kitty is probably only 2-3 months old and is the sweetest kitty we have ever met. She has yet to eat. So, we told them to put a feeding tube in. When you commit to an animal, you have got to give it all you’ve got, and we’re doing just that. As of right now, we are $2700 in. So, here we are again. Begging. The tech at Allied has named the kitty “Betty” as in Betty Crocker because she is still making biscuits through all of the pain. We had SO much fun at the Canine Carnival today! We seemed to have a lot of interest in the dogs we brought as well! Alright, we need your help! Ruby was bailed today and upon receiving her, we noticed she has a harder time walking and her legs definitely have something going on with them. We called our vet and they are putting together a quote, but we are expecting this to cost us thousands of dollars in care for X-rays and correction. If you can donate towards her care, we would appreciate it SO much! She will be seen by our friends at Valley View Pet Hospital. I tried to get a video of her walking so you all can see what she’s dealing with. Will try to add pics in the comments. Please help us help this sweet girl. We are asking for your help! We were contacted on Sunday about a local dog in need! Her owner had to go to the hospital and unfortunately won’t be returning home. The humane society where Ruby ended up isn’t able to house “bully breeds” due to insurance. We networked and nobody stepped up, and we weren’t going to let her die just because of her breed. We had an amazing temp foster step up, but are looking for a forever home/foster home for her. She is 8 years old, loves people, and has lived with a cat. She doesn’t appear to be aggressive towards dogs but would do best in a home with a dog that isn’t jumping all over her (she’s 8 and wants to relax). If you can help, please let us know! Mama and her babies have arrived!!! The rest of the crew from the roundup will be here this week!! We will keep you all updated (roundup is today/tomorrow). Also, Earl and Effy are in a temp foster while their foster is on vacay. He donated the rest of the funds needed for Effy to get her eye surgery!!! We are so so thankful!! ❤️ Have a safe weekend and remember why it is that we are celebrating. We can’t wait to update you!

We LOVE updates on our past animals! Today, we received the BEST update on Polly (FKA Pearl)! Pearl came to us from a severe hoarding case. She hated leaving her kennel. She was terrified of people. She never made an effort to be around her people. We worked with an amazing trainer and she SLOWLY started coming out, but never too close. She never wanted attention. Then; finally, an AMAZING woman saw her picture, fell in love, and knew she needed Pearl as much as Pearl needed her. We get updates often, but this one takes the cake. For the first time in over a year, she decided she wanted to play with a toy. She is best friends with one of the cats in the home and decided that the cat’s toy needed to be hers! This is why we rescue. ❤️
