When Aunt Jane came to Hestia Field, she had spent almost 10 years in the wild. It’s been a slow and steady process — to say the least — to gain her trust, but yesterday we hit a huge milestone.
The first time Aunt Jane had her hooves trimmed at the farm, it took one veterinarian, two farriers, medication for sedating, multiple support people, and approximately three hours. Since then, it’s been a journey of still some medication to no medication to just a lead and halter while the farrier has worked on her hooves.
Yesterday, our amazing farrier Makendra at was able to give Aunt Jane some love, scratches, and snacks while she trimmed her hooves in about 20 minutes — no lead or halter needed. To watch Janie standing comfortably and safely on her own was the biggest gift and reminder of how much she’s grown. We love these moments. ♥️🫏🌀
