Woodbrook Hunt Club

Woodbrook Hunt Club The oldest hunt club West of the Mississippi River! At the Woodbrook Hunt Club, we strive to maintain the traditions of riding to hounds. We are a drag hunt.

We sport the scarlet and black coats that you see in the old hunt prints. We keep 13 or more couple of American Foxhounds in our kennels. Hounds are hunted by our Huntsman and assisted by several Whippers-In. We also have a clubhouse for "hunt breakfasts" and other social gatherings, a formal Hunt Ball, summer hunter paces and an annual Hunter Trials Horse Show. No animals are harmed in our huntin

g activities. Humans (on foot) run ahead of the riders and hounds to lay a scent for the hounds to follow.

The WHC Mardi Gras Parties at the clubhouse were always at the top of the list of the most fun parties we put on each year! This year, Jessica Bradley and the WHC Board trustees are planning an even bigger and better party than in the past!

The Mardi Gras party is a very fun costume party, the traditional New Orleans theme is “Masquerade” and masks are definitely encouraged. Over the years, it’s been great fun guessing which member or friend is behind the mask and costume, so start planning your costume now! Everyone is invited, this party is for members, friends and family!

Our Mardi Gras party is Saturday, March 22nd, starting at 5 pm. Throughout the evening there will be multiple carnival games to play, a photo booth with props for lasting memories, a costume parade and judging with prizes for best male and female costume, a bead throwing contest, we’ll be crowning the King and Queen of the evening, and serving the “King Cake” which is a Mardi Gras tradition!

Dinner is a French/Cajun buffet of delicious foods, and after dinner, we’ll clear the floor and let the dancing begin! There will be a mix of New Orleans jazz with other popular dance songs, so you can dance the night away!

This is a fundraiser for our hardworking hounds! Tickets are $60. for adults and $35 for juniors under 18 yo, and includes the French/Cajun dinner, dessert, one drink ticket, party favors for all guests and an evening of fun, laughter and camaraderie, all to support the hounds!

Questions, or if you’d like to help with preparations, food or games, please contact Jessica Bradley at [email protected] or call/text her at 360-470-8564. Members, this is a great opportunity to get some volunteer hours in!

TOMORROW: This Saturday WHC is hosting our annual “Ride for Life” hunt to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The event was founded by our member Rachel Waldman to honor her mother, Val Waldman. Val was a fixture in the Maryland equestrian community, a bone marrow recipient who ultimately lost her battle with breast cancer in 2014. The Ride for Life is a way for us, the equestrian community, to celebrate the many wonderful horse friends we have lost to cancer, or those who are undergoing treatment for cancer.

Wear Pink! The hunt is informal and we encourage riders and horses to wear pink! 💖🌸🌷🎀💄

The hunt will start at the clubhouse at 11 am. We’ll come back to a wonderful breakfast!

Please consider making a donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (tax deductible) to help them make their 2025 fundraising goals. All cancer survivors are welcome to join us, cap-free and all additional caps will go directly to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. https://give.bcrf.org/fundraiser/3583754

Hunting hounds is all about the pack, or team, and foxhunting is a very social community-oriented sport!

This year WHC is holding a “Hound Draft” similar to the NFL football draft. Our four MFH’s (Melody, Tami, Lorna and Theresa) will be the team captains, and since Melody has won twice, Tami and Theresa have each won once, Lorna will get the first pick of the first round of hounds, in keeping with the “reverse order” of the football draft.

We’ll have four rounds, four hounds in each round, so each team will be supporting and cheering on that mini-pack of hounds during the Hound Challenge hunts of March 1st, March 8th and March 23rd.

After the packs are drafted Saturday, it’s time for members and friends to join a team 🐶 We will have awesome team prizes at the end of the challenge and a special one for the winning team 🏆

The minimum “donation” to join a pack is $100 yet you can donate any amount over $100 (remember, it’s all to support our hardworking hounds)!

If you can’t make it to the breakfast, and want to participate, email back to MFH Melody and she will help get you on your team of choice!

This Hound Draft is going to be a great time! Once you’re on a team, help the Master come up with a great team name!

So join us for hunt breakfast after Saturday’s Ride for Life hunt! The breakfast team will be serving beef stroganoff as the main course in front of a roaring fire! Breakfast is a $15 donation to our Hound Fund, and we hope everyone will pick at least one Hound Challenge team to support and cheer on!

Questions? Email MFH Melody!

This Saturday is our "Ride For Life" Hunt, a way for us, the equestrian community, to celebrate the many wonderful horse friends we have lost to cancer, or those undergoing treatment or are survivors. All cancer survivors are invited to come and ride cap-free (no guest fee) even if they've never hunted before! The Hilltop flight will stay on TA 7N for a walk/trot trailride and the rest of the flights will ride over to hunt on TA 7S. The third flight is another option for new to the hunt riders, it's a walk/trot/canter flight with no jumping, and all jumps have go-arounds! Wear pink (horse and rider) or choose from the cancer ribbon colors below. We'll return to the clubhouse for a hearty hot hunt breakfast featuring beef stroganoff! Breakfast is a $15 donation to our Hound Fund. Questions? Email [email protected]" rel="ugc" target="_blank">[email protected]

Join WHC tomorrow for a "Foot/Vehicle" Hunt! Enough of the frozen ground, we are hunting tomorrow on foot or you can participate from the warmth of your vehicle! The car caravan will leave the kennels at 10:30 am and we'll access the TA 8B fixture (Selden Prairie) via Eastgate Rd. The prairie will allow great viewing and a terrific opportunity to learn the hounds names, coloring, voices and watch them hunt before our Hound Challenge gets started! Make sure that you have your iSportsman vehicle permit displayed on your dashboard! Tally Ho!

As the club is honored this weekend to accept the Hunting and Habitat Conservation Award sponsored by the MFHA in NYC (MFH, Jt. Master, and Hon. Huntsman in attendance), we would be remiss if we didn’t mention that it also is overlapping with Jennifer’s birthday!

Happy Birthday to the best Hon. Huntsman in the game (in our entirely bias, not so humble opinion)! Enjoy the weekend away, you deserve it!
