Because we are human and use words to communicate, we tend to assume our dogs communicate in the same way.

But when you spend time around a group of dogs, you’ll hear no words and very little noise at all. And yet dogs are still communicating!

The language of dogs is about energy, body language, and physical touch.

When we talk to our dogs like we would our friends and family, we are typically making their lives much more confusing. Instead, we should focus on calm energy, clarity, consistency, and trust as our pathways to a better relationship and better behavior.

Your dog can hear you much better when you are quiet.

There are too many dogs in shelters and not enough homes for them. We feel for our friends in the rescue world who are working to provide the best outcomes for them.

“I wanted to share with you our wonderful recent successes!  
 
On Friday, for the first time as an adult dog Steve was able to go into a small pet store — Basset and Lab — and he was a perfect gentleman.  This morning we went downtown and sat outside at Shot and Bottle.  

Steve was able to enjoy meeting people with a reasonable amount of self control. I was so proud of him….
 
Steve enjoys going out so much and now I feel like I can take him without him over-reacting about everyone and everything.”

So much of dog behavior is influenced by how we live with our dogs. Training does require time, teaching, and follow-through, but so much progress can be achieved with simple lifestyle changes!

Through some easy shifts in the way we interact with our dogs, how we encourage rest, and how we communicate with clarity, you will start to see change.

We love hearing success stories from our clients as they put their training to work in real life scenarios! Read on for a recent win from our client Pat and her dog Donzi:

“Thank you for your Zen Dog Den training. It certainly was put to use with terrific results recently.

Two weeks ago, we drove 7 hours to Central Ohio for a family event, taking our boxer dog along. Donzi traveled in his crate as we drove the 7 hours to our destination; upon arriving at our Airbnb, Donzi had a bit of walk/break before we crated him again to attend the family event.

Then returning to the Airbnb that evening, my Ohio cousins came along back with us. I was a little concerned about Donzi’s high energy behavior to now bring other folks into the house. Using our Zen Dog Den “Zen zone” mat (which I had packed) & the “place command” training, Donzi did a stellar job of quietly sitting or laying down while we all chatted for about 2 hours.

I was truly in awe of Donzi’s behavior that evening and cannot say enough about Zen Dog Den training. Kudos to Cherisse & The Zen Dog Den trainers.”

Just because you have a yard for your dog, does not mean their physical and mental exercise needs are being met.Sure, playtime is important, but it shouldn’t be the only thing they have! When let out to play with themselves, dogs often aren’t draining their energy properly.
