🐾 Types of Fractures in Pets (Easy Guide for Pet Parents)

1. Greenstick Fracture
The bone bends and cracks but does not completely break.
👉 More common in young puppies and kittens because their bones are softer.
2. Transverse Fracture
A straight break across the bone.
👉 Often caused by falls, car accidents, or direct trauma.
3. Oblique Fracture
The break runs at an angle across the bone.
👉 Can be unstable and may need surgical repair.
4. Spiral Fracture
The bone twists and breaks in a spiral shape.
👉 Usually happens when a limb gets caught or twisted.
5. Comminuted Fracture
The bone breaks into three or more pieces.
👉 Common with high-impact injuries and often requires surgery.
6. Displaced Fracture
The broken bone pieces are out of alignment.
👉 Needs urgent veterinary care to realign the bone.
7. Impacted Fractur
One part of the bone is pushed into another.
👉 May look less dramatic but is still painful and serious.
8. Avulsion Fracture
A small piece of bone is pulled off by a tendon or ligament.
👉 Often happens during sudden movements or jumps.
9. Growth Plate (Juvenile) Fracture
A fracture involving the growth area of young pets’ bones.
👉 Needs **quick treatment** to prevent lifelong limb problems.

* Limping or refusing to use a limb
* Swelling or obvious deformity
* Crying, pain, or sudden behavior changes
* Any trauma (car accident, fall, bite wound)
