Introducing …. Darwin!
Darwin is big. Really big. We’re talking waaaay over 100lbs big. Maybe 150. But the thing about Darwin is, he is aware of his size. Brought in by animal control, we were sure someone would claim him. He obviously has had people before. He knows commands. He understands ‘no’. And he is GREAT on the leash. He actually walks himself. Literally- he holds the leash in his mouth. He is the perfect example of a ‘gentle giant’

This beauty is Ribbon! Ribbon is a perfectly sized 40ish lb girl who arrived to the shelter with Blitz. Shes a little bit shy at first but opens up quickly and is very curious! She’s got great leash manners and knows basic commands already! We do know she’s not a big fan of cats, but she does love making dog friends. And people. She loves people

Newly released from Court Hold!

🐾Custard | Status: Available for or

Custard was part of a 3 dog cruelty seizure. All 3 came in just skin and bones. Custard and her counterparts were released from court hold after the owner chose to surrender. Custard’s labby friends were quickly scooped up by rescue. She is hoping that someone will be willing to give her the same chance at a life she’s always dreamed of 🥺. At intake Custard was a measly 39 pounds, but thanks to the care staff has poured into her she is finally starting to gain some needed meat on those bones of hers. In spite of her past Custard is a sweetheart. The county shelter is likely the first place she has known regular meals, a bed, shelter, constant warmth, and a soft hand. We are hoping to show her the life she’s always deserved, one filled with soft beds and companionship in her very own forever home with people who love her just as much as she loves them. Please help us find safety for this girl who’s never known security 🙏🏻.

💔 Still Searching 💔

Allie was our longest resident at Lancaster SC County Shelter when she was pulled by . Now Allie girl is the longest resident at the Ark 😔. This sweetheart has been overlooked for a very long time. It is just heartbreaking seeing so many amazing dogs forgotten 💔.

Allie is available for adoption in CLT NC and surrounding areas.

All about Allie:

🤍~ 6 years young
🤍spayed and up to date on all shots
🤍she loves to play fetch, loves toys, hangs out around the house, and is house and kennel trained.

🤍she has high prey drive so cannot be with cats or other small animals. our rescue policy for adult dogs with an unknown history is no small children in the home, just to be on the safe side.

🤍she absolutely loves people and attaches to her person fast. she’s not destructive in the house, and has the most loving personality.

🤍she does well with other dogs with proper, slow, intros but she’s been attacked in the past by dogs so we don’t ever throw her into a situation where she has to meet dogs unless they’re going to be in her household long term.

if you are interested in adopting allie please email [email protected]

donations for her care can be made via:
venmo: angelasark

please SHARE in hopes we can find Allie a place to call home 🙏🏼

High risk ‼️🚨‼️ due to high heartworm positive status. Keep in mind, heartworms should never be a reason not to adopt! See further down for more info

Kesha!
This girl is like a dream! So polite. Brought in by a good samaritan, she was never claimed. She’s an incredibly gentle girl, who already knows some basic commands. Plus, she’s treat motivated! She walks pretty well on the leash and is a smaller 40-45ish lbs. When it comes to fun and games, Kesha seems much more interested in either cuddles or treats as opposed to toys. To meet her is to love her, she’s that special.

‼️Little Utah is growing up in the county shelter 😔. ‼️

Utah | Status: Available for or

Intake date: 10/24/24

Puppy alert! Utah may be a puppy, but so far his ‘puppyhood’ has been a tough one. He came in as a stray, all alone, not reclaimed. This was almost three months back. At the time he was only 5 months old. Utah has been growing up in his shelter kennel. No siblings or friends to play with. Just alone. Despite this, Utah has adjusted incredibly well. But there is no substitute for a home. He’s approaching 9 months old, and is in need of safety. The shelter is FULL!

Volunteer notes: Utah is very well behaved for a puppy. He is a nice medium 30ish lbs and walks very well on the leash. He is a good mix of playful and gentle. A good mix of liking toys and cuddles. Also, he is treat motivated so training should be easy. A good boy. Puppies shouldn’t learn about life in a shelter!

Meet Rambo!
This guy came in by way of animal control as a stray, incredibly thin. Skin and bones. Despite whatever he has been through to get to this point, he is incredibly sweet. He is very shy in his kennel but after a few minutes he warms up. He is getting used to the leash nicely. In the yard, he opens up and will chase a toy. He is incredibly treat motivated and seems very intelligent. He also has a stunning light/brindle coat and the best ears! This sweet boy deserves a new start on life! Could you be his Valentine?

Blackjack has rescue commitment, thanks to ❤️

Sometimes, in the midst of turmoil a glimpse of positivity
shines through as a quiet reminder of hope and resilience, showing us that even in the hardest moments, there is light to hold onto.

Carter walked out our doors today with a family absolutely thrilled to welcome him into their home after the loss of their beloved companion. For the past 20 years, this wonderful family has been adopting dogs from the Lancaster shelter, and now they’re overjoyed to give Carter the love and care he’s always deserved. Carter has some big pawprints to fill, living up to the legacy of the many alumni who filled this home with so much love and joy before him, but we have no doubt he’s up to the task.

Happy tails Carter! We are so overjoyed for you sweet boy 💕.

Update- Coty retested WELL with female dogs today
still EXTREMELY high risk
‼️💔🚨 Urgent- shelter is CODE RED. Coty is at top of euth list due to not getting along with other dogs in initial test. Keep in mind, the shelter is a highly stressful environment- particularly for his breed and is a factor in how he tests.
‼️🚨‼️🚨‼️

Coty arrived at the shelter as a stray, brought in by a good samaritan only to go unclaimed. He’s strikingly handsome, a perfect 2 years old, and has the softest fur you’ll ever pet. Coty is a big ball of love- silly, funny, and goofy! He is excellent at fetch, and loves his toys. His very favorite thing is a good belly rub plus a big hug. And hanging with his people. People are kind of his thing. And that’s why he is high risk- Coty hasn’t been having the easiest time making new dog friends. Sadly, in our overflowing and crowded shelter system, this is usually all it takes to earn a death sentence. On top of that, Coty has a bad case of heartworms. Keep in mind- heartworms should never be a reason not to adopt! (see below for more). The odds are stacked against him, but is there anyone out there who could be this boy’s only hope?

All dogs pictured are currently in our "ready to go home" adoption wing. I'm sure most of you have seen these faces posted plenty of times. Some of these sweet babies are becoming kennel stressed to the point of losing weight from walking in circles all day. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP US SHARE AND GET THESE DOGS ADOPTED TO MAKE SPACE.

These three babies are almost safe! But first we need to get them to the vet for health certificates so they can make tomorrow’s transport!

They need to be picked up from the shelter and brought to our local vet for a walk-in appointment at 2:30pm TODAY! The shelter can provide carriers and a crate for Rae. Please DM if you are available to assist.

Pumbaa has been waiting forever with nobody interested. He is shutting down and losing significant weight at the shelter due to STRESS. IF RESCUE DOES NOT COME FORWARD A DECISION WILL BE MADE IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE DOG. IT IS NOT FAIR NOR HUMANE FOR A DOG TO LIVE THIS WAY.

Volunteer notes: Loved this boy !! He was very shy out in the yard at first. He first just wanted to sniff around and didn’t bother with me. He eventually approached me and very hesitantly took a treat. He warmed up little by little. Eventually he came over and gave me a kiss and later became more playful. When he saw Jensen walk by he was extra excited. Makes me think he would make a very loyal, loving companion after realizing he can trust someone. He is very responsive to treats. Either someone taught him to lay/bow at one point or he is just very smart. Or both. He’s pretty big, but very gentle. Takes treats gently. By the end, he was chasing toys and running little zoomies. So cute.

🚨Clarity | Status: URGENT NEED FOR MEDICAL RESCUE

📍Lancaster County SC Shelter

Meet Clarity, a shining example of unconditional love and resilience! Her story is one we have told far too many times before. She entered the shelter as a stray with severe wounds, in multiple stages of healing. We can all only assume the terrible things this beautiful girl has been through. Clarity has faced life’s challenges with grace, and has a tail that never stops wagging. This gentle girl has a heart as pure as her name and, in spite of her past, still chooses love and friendship. Clarity loves other dogs and seems to find comfort in their presence. She is an absolute sweetheart who deserves the chance to know true love and a soft hand. Clarity has been on medication since being intaked to help keep her comfortable and free of infection. She is still not baring weight on her front left leg and is going to need to go in for X-rays.

💔 High heartworm positive, of course 😔.

01/15/2025

When I came to the realization that Winky’s body temp was dangerously low I got him on a heating pad right away, wrapped him tightly in a towel and held him close. In that moment he grabbed on to my finger with his tiny little ice cold paw, as if to say, “It’s going to be okay.”. It was then, I knew this little one would fight with everything he had.

This afternoon, Winky was released from the hospital to our partner, Cheryl’s Ferals and Fosters. I think the look on his face upon his release into their care says it all.

Thanks to your generosity we were able to raise the funds to cover the bill to stabilize Winky ❤️. He is too small for enucleation surgery at this time. In about 3 or so weeks Doc will be removing that bad eye and Winky will be well on his way to a much happier and healthier kitty. Cheryl’s Ferals will be assuming Winky’s surgery costs. If you would like to help them cover those costs their donation link is below ⬇️

https://cherylsferalsandfosters.com/donate/?

As always this village is the best! We can not thank you all enough for rooting for this little one and supporting his recovery in every way you were able 🥰.
