As most of you are aware, Zaynah had her first baby in March of this year. She has since decided that she wants to be a stay at home mommy. Her last day with us was on September 1st and our luck at getting any potential replacement has stayed the course with multiple people contacting us just to never show up for an interview. It is in that aspect that we have decided to drastically reduce the amount of clients that we service.

With that said, I have once again compiled a list of clients that ranks the most reliable customers based on the criteria of the percentage of completed appts to the number of scheduled appts which highlights the consistency of being at the scheduled appts. With this, I ran it along side the criteria of the number of appts that have been completed over the years. This brings forward both older clients and those who book with a consistent schedule.

These criteria would list somebody who has completed 100% of all 40 appts over someone who has completed 98% of their 100 appts. And that person would be listed above the person who has completed 97% of their 80 appts and so on. The spreadsheet is attached below.

While I feel this is the most fair way to pick and choose clients, Sally asked what is fair about it towards her? As she took off her Tommy Copper armor from her hands, wrists, elbows and knees; she expressed her needs to reduce the large, resistant, bitey and hard to groom dogs that are taking their toll on her physically. She also expressed that she does not want to groom cats anymore.

So with that she went over the final list and marked off the dogs that are physically too much for her, the dogs that resist and are bitey along with the cats that were on the list. She also marked the dogs that she wants to keep, for one reason or another. Some are too old to go to a new groomer, others are too nervous and skittish that have learned to trust her and she doesn’t want them to have to experience a new groomer. Still others are just special to her in other ways.

With that the list was cut down and finalized to what she can manage. We feel horrible that we cannot keep each and every last one of you, some we’ve known since the beginning of all of this. We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together, we’ve been on this crazy ride together and we will sorely miss both you and your wonderful pets that we’ve gotten to know and love on for all these years.

The list the way it is compiled will serve as the order of call back if and when openings in the schedule comes available. Again that list is attached below along with a new updated pricing list that will go into effect as of the week starting September 12, 2023.

Quick Deuce update for everyone. He is doing amazing, far better than we had expected under the condition that he was in. Our only problem right now is keeping him from acting a fool. He's feeling so good he thinks he can play and rough house just as he always has.

So with that, I think we can turn to the good times and share with everyone his beach vacation now.

Hope everyone enjoys the views as much as we did!!

Praise the lord, God is good and prayer is powerful.

We cannot thank everyone enough for all the prayers for our big baby guy.

Monday the doctors didn't even think he would make it through the surgery and would only give a 50/50 chance at the first 24 hours post op.

Here we are less than 48 hours later and this big goofy guy got his walking papers this afternoon.

From me, Sally and Deuce, from the depths of our hearts, we love and thank you all.

08/16/2023

Evening update, we are nearing our 24hr mark.

He maintained 97% saturation on the 3liters/hr today. They have taken him off the meds for the arrhythmia and blood pressure, as both of those have stabilized.

He hasn't gotten his appetite back which isn't good. If he doesn't start eating before tomorrow they will have to insert a GI feeding tube through his nose. He's spoiled and I told them he has to have a can of tuna on his food before he eats. A tech grabbed her lunch and opened him a can of tuna. He took a few small bites. She administered an appetite stimulate so hopefully he will finish off his tuna tonight.

Overall the doctors are impressed with his progress. They threw out the possibility that he could potentially be home in 72hrs.

I'm not trying to push him, but it's not same without him by my side so fingers crossed for 72hrs.

TUE.15TH MORNING VET UPDATE

DEUCE HAS CONTINUED TO STAY STABLE OVER NIGHT. HE DEVELOPED SOME ARRHYTHMIAS AFTER SURGERY, BUT TREATED WITH MEDICATION AND HAS HIS HEART RATE UNDER CONTROL.

HIS BREATHING IS STRONG AND HE IS MAINTAINING AN OXYGEN SATURATION OF 99%. THEY REDUCED HIS OXYGEN FROM 6 LITERS TO 3 LITERS THIS MORNING.

WE'RE THROUGH THE FIRST 12 HOURS AND THIS CHANGE IN OXYGEN WILL GIVE US A GOOD IDEA HOW THIS NEXT 12 HOURS WILL GO.

****

Me, Sally and Deuce want to thank each of you for your continued prayers.

Surgery went little over 2 hours but was a success. The middle lobe of his right lung was removed. The doctor is optimistic that the upper lobe will be okay. He was able to confirm that it was viable and cycling air.

The lobe torsion of the right middle lobe did cause fluid build up in the cavity, and concerns of any damage to the left lung was set aside during surgery when the doctor could physically check it out.

In combination with his 2020 accident he now has 2.5 lobes on his left lung and 1 lobe on his right lung. The next 24 hours are critical to see how he is able to handle only having 60% of total lung mass. Cultures are being run of the cavity fluid and they're treating him with the necessary antibiotics.

He's not out of the woods yet, but he is definitely heading down the right path. Thank you cannot express our gratitude for everyone's continued prayers 🙏

No news is good news until the 6am vet call with updates. Thank you everyone ❤

08/14/2023

We're going to surgery.

His right lung only has the top and middle lobes, the bottom lobe was removed in 2020.
The middle lobe has twisted. They will be removing it and will try to save the top lobe.

They are giving him a 50/50 with recovery, if he will be able to maintain respiration with just his left lung. Which had a partial removal of his top lobe in 2020.

He's strong, he's healthy and his body has 3 years of living with partial lungs.

Keep our baby in your prayers, we love you all.

I'm supposed to be posting pictures of Deuce's vacation today, but through these tears I'm posting pictures of him like this.

We're still unclear exactly what is going on this morning but things are pointing towards his lung twisted. With his major accident in 2020 that they removed 25% of his lung mass, it left his chest cavity with room to roll.

This is not confirmed yet but heading for a CT scan to get a better picture of his chest.

Please keep praying for my baby boy that God will lay his hands on him and heal him.

Please everyone keep our baby boy Deuce in your prayers. He's at the emergency vet tonight instead of being at home with us.

07/27/2023

I'm reaching out to our tried and true resources, our loyal friends and family.

As most of you are aware, Zaynah brought her baby boy into the world back in March. Being a first time mom, it was devasting to her leaving him at the babysitters on her first day back to work. Now that little man is 4 months old, she is wanting to become a stay at home mom for Wyatt.

With that, we are looking for someone who can come in and replace her in the back. We have never had any luck with posting to job boards, so I figured we would come to you and see if friend and family word of mouth would be the best option for us to find a perfect match.

What we are looking for is someone who first and foremost loves pets and wants to work with them. (WARNING: To steal a quote, "It's not all kittens and puppy dog kisses") This can be a very tasking position and requires the physical capabilities to handle such.

Dependable, reliable, work ethic driven individuals are a must. As clients you all are well aware of our schedule and the need for someone to be here, so we can take care of your babies in a timely fashion.

Experience is a little lower on the list of needs. While it would be preferable for someone to have some experience, we can help an individual obtain that experience. Professional grooming experience would obviously head towards the front of the line.

The position is a full time W2, Tues-Sat 8:30-4:30 job. Pay is based on experience and job performance. Entry level pay will start at $12/hr weekly. Direct deposit and some paid benefits, paid time off and holidays.

Reference from client required. Client reference of successful applicant will receive their next scheduled groom free of charge as a thank you!!

To set up an interview, please text us at 740.777.0184

Zaynah received a beautiful birthday gift yesterday. She celebrated her 23rd birthday by becoming a mommy ❤

Mommy did an amazing job, but he was just being pure stubborn and after more than 12hrs of labor they delivered him by emergency c-section.

March 16, 2023 at 8:18am this beautiful 8lbs 3oz, 20 inch long miracle came into the world.

Mommy is doing great and recovering and baby is healthy, strong and perfect.

Happy birthday Zaynah Rose and a very special happy birthday to Baby Hoalcraft ❤❤

We wanted to send a quick "Thank you" out to everyone who accommodated our schedule changes so we could enjoy a long weekend.

And what better way to celebrate the President's Day weekend than a trip to DC.

The big city adventures for Deuce didn't start to good, he was a little confused as to why everyone was running everywhere and they definitely weren't trying to play with him.

I'll let him narrate the rest.

We're expecting!!

Zaynah is expecting a baby boy this March. Everyone is so excited for her and her first baby!! In her new mama condition, it won't be long before picking up and daily handling of washing and drying everyone's fur kids will be too much for her. We are going to be moving her into the front to check everyone in and out, so it will be less physical stress on her.

In the meanwhile, with Zaynah running the front this is going to free up some of my time during the day. I accepted a Project Engineer position part time for a machine shop in Newark. For the better part of a year, they have been trying to get me to talk with them about this position. I think this will be the perfect opportunity to help this shop setup their CNC department to put the production back in their name.

I will still be overseeing the day-to-day operations here at home. As a bonus, being part time, there will be a few of you that I will still see first thing in the mornings or the last ones of the day. In case of any scheduling issues that Zaynah is not able to handle during the week, I will be around on Saturdays to get those issues solved. I will be able to get back to you either on Saturdays, or I will have Zaynah get back with you on Tuesdays when we reopen.

As always, we thank each and every one of you. You folks are amazing clients, and it is because of you that we are able to care for your kids in our family business. We love you all!!

There is an emptiness behind the desk today, the kind that breaks your heart. We said our goodbyes to our ferocious guard dog Birdie, as she is now waiting for us on the other side of that bridge.

September 15, 2017 on the end of a piece of dirty rope, she walked into our shop with a young kid who said he found her running loose. Scared and covered in fleas, Sally immediately gave her a bath and a pedicure while we tried to find who might be missing her.

Not microchipped and no one looking for a missing a dog, she was bound to become part of our pack. With a client printout list of all of our female dog's names, one by one she responded to exactly none of them. But when she would get excited and talk to you, she chirped like a bird and so Birdie stuck and she seemed to rather like her new name.

For a loose stray dog, she enjoyed staying close to my side and we would enjoy walks around the neighborhood regularly. She always had a little Bird Dog nest in the corner of the bedroom or right under my desks. She was a master of cocooning herself up inside of a blanket and peeking out, laying in wait to ambush after anyone who dared to get to close to her nest.

Sunday mornings were ritualized by her dancing and chirping around the bed until I made notice of her and gave her a good ear rubbing. She would then accompany Sally with bringing in the groceries, although she would mainly find a nice warm spot to sun herself.

As a fashion Diva, she always modeled the latest sweaters and hoodies, and as with all divas, she was quick to keep all of our boys in the pack inline.

Bird Dog came into our lives very unexpectedly and she left us the same way. Just a half pint of attitude and air that captured the biggest part of our lives and hearts, Turdy Birdie you will be missed and loved until we can chirp and dance together again.

Unfortunately this is not the end of the year post I am thrilled about making. We have been able to control our costs and keep our pricing affordable for everyone since 2018. However the inflated prices of products and services this year is forcing us to make a decision to have to raise our prices to be able to continue the same great care and service you are expecting from us.
I am dedicated to keeping the price increase to as minimal as I can, and no one should see an increase of more than around 10%. As I have always tried to keep our pricing as fair as possible, I will still be basing grooming prices off of an hourly rate based on how long your average groom takes.
If you have any questions or concerns, please address them via text message at 740.777.0184
Thank you for you continued support and love!!

We would like to give out a huge thank you to everyone who worked with us to reschedule appointments and for those who had the patience and understanding to allow us to take a little break and time off for a vacation.

We have the best clients and you all are greatly appreciated.

And of course Deuce wanted to share some vacation pictures with everyone.

04/21/2021

First, I want to apologize for the fact that it seems like the only time we use FB any more is to just relay big and important news. I promise I will try to get back to putting together some before & after shots, random shop antics and Deuce Adventures in the future.

I also want to apologize for the length of this post. I can get longwinded when doing a “press release” story, so if you only have a second to stop scrolling and read this, please jump straight to the end to get the scoop.

With my opening apologies out of the way, I would like to turn my attention on how thankful and blessed we have been to have such amazing clients. We are grateful that all 2,000+ of you, have made our business the success it has become. Since October 3, 2015 we have given almost 30,000 baths and close to the same number of haircuts. Which puts us on an average of 23.9 baths per day and we have multiple single day record highs of 31 baths. You folks have definitely kept us busy, and we appreciate every one of you and your business.

As most of you are aware, we said good-bye to our lead groomer Desi who finally made her own dreams come true by opening a mobile grooming unit. There was always an understanding that someday it would come to fruition and when it did, she respectively gave us a month’s notice to fill her position. To no avail were we able to fill the big void that she would leave before we wished her the best. Since that time, we have done what we always do, we pull together, we buckle down, and we work as a team to get the job done.

With all the events that the last year has brought us, from a major medical issue to the Great Shutdown of 2020 to the loss of such a valuable asset, we are refocusing on what is going to be best for the future of our business. The decisions driving this move are both personal in nature as well as business oriented with a few even being a direct result of a combination of both personal and business contributing factors.

Some of you have literally been with us from day one and have helped our business grow. Most of our current clients have been from referrals of friends and family. It has been your word-of-mouth references and reviews that has carried us through these last 5 and a half years. With that, you have witnessed all our growing pains; our ups, our downs, our successes, our failures and have stuck by us as we have grown this business from scratch.

There are many of you who have over the years seen our schedule get so busy, that you have pre-booked your entire years appointments to assure that your schedule would work with ours. This winter and spring have seen that list of clients grow and we currently have over 1,500 appointments pre-scheduled for the rest of 2021. That means that 45% of the remaining year of 2021 is already booked and currently over 200 appointments for the year of 2022 are booked.

With so many pre-book and re-booking customers we are finding ourselves booking new appointments 8 weeks out with a cancelation list just as long. This is interfering with our re-booking clients’ grooming schedule causing them to have to alter their schedule to accommodate ours. As such good clients, you should not have to be penalized by our short comings.

****Here comes the scoop for you scrollers****

So, with so much on our plate, this is how we have decided to divide it up. For the reasons listed above, we feel it best that we reduce the volume of our business. Our first step to accomplish this is that we are no longer accepting new clients. We still every day get new referrals, and we appreciate every one, but at this time we cannot accommodate them. The second step we are taking is that we will no longer be a “by appointment only” shop but rather we are going to be a “by invitation only” shop. By this we mean that our most loyal customers; those who always rebook, do not excessively cancel, reschedule or no show, current customers with seniority will all be our top priority on our schedule. Over the next month or so I will be working with these folks who are not already on a pre-booked schedule to set a standing appointment. Our goal with this is to be able to have a skeleton schedule of the year on the books that will accommodate your schedules while we reduce our volume.

We feel like these decisions are a positive step forward in the right direction for us to reach the goals we are wanting to achieve personally as business owners. We hope that you will continue to give us your support through this move and we look forward to continuing to give you and your babies the best in your grooming needs.

Thank you,
Scott & Sally
