City of Lander Urges Residents to Take Action Against Freezing Pipes - Please Keep Running Water

Full Press Release: https://www.landerwyoming.org/public-works/page/city-lander-urges-residents-take-action-against-freezing-pipes-0

The City of Lander emphasizes the importance of taking ongoing measures to prevent frozen pipes. To reduce the risk of freezing, residents are encouraged to run a steady stream of water, approximately the size of a pencil lead, from the sink farthest from the water meter. This simple precaution is typically effective in preventing water lines from freezing. The City will notify residents when it is safe to discontinue this practice. Your cooperation in this effort is greatly appreciated.

As a reminder, to assist residential customers, the City has temporarily increased the water base rate allowance, effective January 13. Customers with a 5/8" meter will receive an additional 2,000 gallons of water per billing period, on top of the standard 4,000-gallon base rate, for a total of 6,000 gallons at no extra charge. This allowance does not apply to trailer parks or apartment complexes served by master meters without individual billing. Adjustments will appear on February bills.

What Should Residents Do?
If your property is in an area prone to freezing or if you have experienced frozen pipes in the past, consider the following steps:
-Run a small stream of water (approximately the size of a pencil lead) from the sink farthest from your water meter. This is usually sufficient to prevent freezing.
-Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around pipes. Be sure to move harmful cleaners or chemicals out of reach of children and pets.
-Run water periodically from faucets located along exterior walls or in infrequently used spaces to keep water moving throughout your plumbing system.

The City will notify residents when it is safe to stop running water.

City of Lander Snow Removal Plan - Thursday and Friday’s Priorities
Full Press Release: https://www.landerwyoming.org/public-works/page/city-lander-snow-removal-plan-thursday-and-fridays-priorities

We appreciate the community’s patience as our teams work across various areas of the city. While unforeseen challenges, such as equipment breakdowns, additional snow, or water main breaks, may occasionally cause delays, our crews are committed to clearing streets efficiently and safely. Although the streets listed below are the current priority, unexpected circumstances may require adjustments to this schedule.

Thursday’s Priorities
Crews will begin blading and snow removal operations early Thursday morning on the following streets:
Baldwin Drive
Dupont Drive
Indian Lookout Drive
Chapman Street
Waterfowl Way
Black Boulevard
Dabich Avenue
Spriggs Drive
McDougall Drive
Cliff Street
Smith Street

Friday’s Priorities
Crews will focus on blading and snow removal operations at the following locations:
Amoretti Street
Washakie Street
Eugene Street

Safety Around Snow Removal Crews
For everyone’s safety:
-Use caution when driving near snow removal equipment.
-Avoid driving through snow piles located in the center of streets.
-Please refrain from playing in or around the snow dumps located around town.

Residential Snow Removal Responsibilities
Residents play an essential role in ensuring community safety during snow events. Please adhere to these guidelines:
-Do not push or dump snow from driveways or sidewalks onto City streets or property. This can create hazards for emergency vehicles and other drivers.
-If you have a fire hydrant on your property, clear snow around the hydrant or consider offering assistance to a neighbor who may need help.
-Shovel sidewalks and walking areas promptly, even if there is no concrete surface.
-Sidewalks and walking paths on empty lots must also be cleared of snow.
-Avoid plowing the street in front of your residence.
-You may remove snow from the concrete gutter section (18-24 inches wide) and place it into the street to allow for proper drainage of snowmelt.
