What do you think we'll add to this aquarium?!

We refreshed our one 10 gallon tank recently since we moved all the Platies into the 50 gallon tank with the Guppies. We put in new substrate and bought all new plants.

Stay tuned for what we add to this one! I can't wait to see the plants continue to grow!

Just a few of our Guppies in the one corner of the 50 gallon tank! Today we're combining our Guppies & Platies both in to this tank together since they can't cross-breed!

Recommendations: 10 gallon minimum tank - and have about 4-5 together. If you don't want breeding to occur, get only female. If you'd like them to breed (and they will), do 1 male to 3 or 4 females! Tank must be filtered. These particular ones are currently not in a live habitat tank, but could be.

Check out a bunch of our Platy!

This tank currently has one Mama (as seen on the right), 20+ babies, and just recently had another "litter" of about 20 or so Fry - just born a couple days ago, so they are not all out of hiding so accurate count is difficult.

You may also be able to spot an even older baby - darker on the left!

SOMEHOW, this Mama become pregnant with another set of Fry - and no adult male in the tank. We read they could breed pretty young, but I am almost positive our larger baby is a female. 🤯 Someone explain this phenomenon to us! I only noticed the new batch of Fry when I was attempting to clean the tank - and had to stop to protect them!

We have a hider!! Took me quite a while to finally find where she got to, but she's just relaxing and hiding in there.

The 4 up and about seem pretty happy to be together and eating. They've been checking out the environment and finding all their hiding spots.

New natural tank! This will be our new Platy tank.

We will be introducing the Platy in 4-6 weeks - giving the tank time to stabilize and establish itself. Stay tuned!

We have officially ventured in to the world of Aquascaping!

This is a 5 gallon tank that we are starting with. We only purchased one kind of hardscape to start with (rocks) and two plants.

The plants floating at the top are waiting to be planted in the substrate (the black gravel) - they need to form roots first.

The "planted" plants don't actually need to be full planted in the substrate, and they will grow on the rocks.

We figured we'd start out small and simple, and gradually change our aquariums over to natural.

(Mommy designed this tank, but we cannot wait until Jakob is old enough to start designing some of his own!)

Surprise! We have an ANGELFISH!

Did you know these guys will grow to the size of your hand!? 6 inches!

They like a minimum of 20 gallons and tall tank environments (due to their shape) - so this tank was a perfect match!

They are semi-aggressive, so make sure to pair them with the right tank mates!

Meet our 7 new tank friends!

Named by Melanie (Jakob's cousin) & one by Jakob's Mama:

Mikey, Light, Soap, Spray, Flower, Bookie, and Watery

3 Mickey Mouse Mollies, 1 Spotted Platy, 2 Snails, and an algae eating guy (not sure on species name).

We love the new addition to our Aquatic life! Thank you to our friends who let us adopt this tank and the aquatic life with it! Mikey was named after this sweet family!

We may eventually be turning this tank in to a natural habitat tank - so stay tuned for that!

You may be able to notice the significant belly size of two of our females, and specifically see the GRAVID SPOT near the a**l fin of our light orange lady!

PLATIES

These 4 Platies enjoy a 10 gallon tank to themselves in our living room!

We have 3 females and 1 male. Our male is the second one from the left. He's always chasing the females (especially the second from the right).

We've been keeping their tank around 73°F, and they are thriving. For food they receive premium fresh water flakes and occasionally get a special treat of frozen bloodworms! Yummm!

Within the coming weeks we should see if they were already pregnant when we bought them, or a little longer if they only just got pregnant since in our tank.

Typical ratio for breeding is 3:1 (female:male). We're excited to see all the little FRY soon to arrive.

It appears two of our females may be pregnant. We will try to get a good photo of each of the females so you can see what we're seeing! They're hard to capture with all the movement. 🐟🌊 (If you look at the female second from the right, you can see an extended stomach, and you may be able to see the dark spot near her a**l fin - known as the "gravid spot"!) Far right female also appears to be pregnant.

Welcome to Jakob's Aquatics!

Our family has ventured out in the world of aquatics - aquarium tank life!

Jakob, our sweet [almost] 2 year old absolutely loves fish, so we have gotten a few tanks at home and are starting small. [10 gallon with Platies, 10 gallon with Guppies & Tetras, small tank for frog, and 5 gallon for goldfish.] We have another tank on the way and are keeping a close eye out for more!

Follow our journey with breeding fish, building tank interiors, caring for the aquatic animals, and having fun!

We aren't professionals in this field, yet, but we are learning each day!

Current Aquatic life:

- Platies (breeding)
- Guppies (breeding)
- Tetras (different Neon types)
- Goldfish
- African Dwarf Frog

Soon we hope to venture in to the world of natural habitats of sand, plants, and rocks!

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for new FRY (Platies & Guppies) so long as the breeding goes well! We will have them available for purchase to local individuals/businesses.
