These two can't get enough of each other. Their bond is a testament to the fact that a disability doesn't have to keep you down, and because of your support, our sanctuary is able to care for dogs like this that may not have a chance at a traditional home.

Cece is a gorgeous 5-year-old American pit bull terrier mix with a smile that will light up your whole life. Cece needs to be the only queen in your pet castle - it’s a lady’s right to be picky after all – but she LOVES all people, including those tiny humans! "I'm a sweet, energetic dog, born around December 2021. My first year was tough, but thankfully, my puppies were rescued. I'm a little shy at first, likely because of my early experiences, but I warm up quickly. I love people and enjoy being petted, just please approach me gently. I'm not aggressive at all, just a bit cautious. I have lots of love and loyalty to offer! I do well with calm, respectful kids, but I'd thrive in a home with adults or older, gentle children, where I can feel secure. A yard is a must for my energy, but I need to be included – I don't want to be left alone outside. I'm not an escape artist; I just crave companionship. It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear Cola. At 13 years old, she should have been enjoying a peaceful retirement. Instead, she was a victim of circumstance, surrendered after her devoted owner became ill and family failed to step in.
When she first arrived at our facility 2 years ago, she was so shut down and scared. But all it took was one compassionate car ride. A simple gesture brought her out of her shell, and she never looked back. From that moment on, she was an energetic, playful senior girl. We were all amazed at how much energy she had at 11 years.
We all desperately hoped to find Cola the perfect home to live out her days. Our staff and volunteers gave her all they could—extra walks ,treats and love. But sadly, that day never came. Cola was diagnosed with stomach cancer that progressed rapidly and we had to make the difficult choice to let her go peacefully.
While Cola never got to leave the shelter for a new home, she did not pass away alone. She was surrounded by people who loved her. She reminded us that even in the most difficult circumstances, love can conquer.
Your support made it possible for us to give Cola the comfort and care she deserved in her final days. Her story is a powerful reminder of why our work is so crucial. Thank you for helping us ensure that every dog, even those who run out of time, knows what it feels like to be truly loved.

Looking for a new best friend? Look no further than Liam! This two-year-old is a happy and handsome boy with the most beautiful, loving eyes you’ve ever seen. Liam is a gentle soul who loves to play and has a wonderful temperament. He's great with people and shows no aggressive tendencies toward other dogs, making him an ideal family dog. He’s also quite the cuddler—despite his size, he has no problem hopping right into your lap! Liam is an intelligent and obedient dog who listens well and is eager to please. He can't wait to find a home where he can share his endless affection and playful energy.

There are many rescues in the upstate that we follow and love. That’s why we started the Whiskeys for Whiskers event and then moved forward with setting up The Whiskers Foundation. One we’ve supported for the last few years will join us again for Tails at the Tap on October 4th, 12-3 at the Community Tap in Travelers Rest. Pet Tender Angels has been around over two decades. They are a shelter facility in Landrum whose mission is to provide shelter, sanctuary, and rehabilitation for dogs in need, and they are really good at what they do. One of our board members’ personal dogs came from PTA so bringing them into our fold was a no-brainer. Lori and her team go the extra mile to care for the dogs in their shelter. We can’t thank them enough for what they do for the rescue community in the upstate.
