Smart Fencing for a Smart Pup! 🐾
Today, Celeste (Newt) was awesome—well, with one little hiccup. Our horse fence has welded wire from 5 feet down to the ground all the way around. Wicket never found the tiny gaps… but Newt did!
While I was chatting with someone in a car out front, she casually walked right through the smallest gap at the gate—like it was nothing—bounced around to say hello, and then trotted right back when I called her.
If you check out the photos, you'll see she’s wearing her SpotOn GPS collar. I’m not too worried about her wandering, but I reinforced the fence just in case. She’ll keep the collar on for a week or two so I can track her—no shock, no vibration, just a tone alert and a notification to my phone if she ever slips out. But honestly? She’s already claimed this place as home. She’s completely loyal and in love with the boys.

BIg day on the farm! We’d love to introduce our newest foster (but let’s be real… probably a forever pup), Celeste! For now, the name fits her, but we’ll see what sticks as she settles in.
She’s a little over a year old, found as a stray in NC about 10 weeks ago, and has clearly known a home before—because you could not ask for a sweeter dog. She’s already been a mama, but her puppies are weaned, and now it’s her turn to be cared for.
Her journey has been long—rescued, driven from NC to CT, then another trip with us up to the farm. Right now, she’s got her own space to rest and decompress before meeting the rest of the crew. No rush, just sleep, food, and lots of love.
She’s tiny for a Queensland Heeler, and we’re keeping an eye on her hearing (since some Blue Heelers with a single eye patch can carry a deafness gene), but so far, she seems just shut down from all the change. We get it, girl.
She’s met Wicket—gave him a little snip (deserved, honestly), but they’ll figure it out. The big boys are waiting to meet her, and we’ll take it slow. One step at a time.

After 3 hours at the emergency vet with no real triage, and then so we might wait another an hour or more , I realized the staff lacked the skill to handle difficult dogs. Instead of waiting even longer, I decided to take Bodhi home and see our vet tomorrow. He’s not bleeding and not too lame, so I’m giving him some Carprofen to help.
Just a reminder of how important proper training is—even in a clinical setting. Here’s a 500mg chewy Carprofen tablet hidden in a jerky treat and coated in peanut butter. I know Bodhi won’t bite me, but if you push him, expect a reaction. He’s still a work in progress, but we’re getting there.

Deep snow and lots of ice. Bodhi our #chesapeakebayretriever rescue tore a nail pretty bad. So we are here to have it fixed with sedation.

If you haven't met my little Wicket, he's a rescue #JackRussellPoodle mix with some neurological issues, including blindness. When he bumps into something, he assumes it's an unmovable obstacle. It took him six months to master the stairs, and he still can’t navigate the porch. When he gets excited, he’ll run full speed into your leg—or a tree—without a second thought. But this morning, he figured out how to jump onto the sofa for the first time… which means nothing on the black stove is safe anymore!
