🚨 The City is Punishing People for Helping Cats 🚨

For over a year, Happy Feet Pet Rescue has been working tirelessly to help control the stray cat population in Saint Johns, MI. We have dedicated countless hours and thousands of dollars to a humane Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, fixing over 40 cats in the community.

Our efforts have:
✔️ Reduced the number of kittens being born
✔️ Decreased nuisance behaviors (like spraying and yowling)
✔️ Provided medical care for sick and injured strays

Despite our life-saving work, the City of Saint Johns has responded with hostility. Instead of working with us, they have chosen to criminalize feeding stray cats—even for compassionate residents trying to help.

💔 A kind elderly woman, who has been caring for abandoned and fixed cats, was recently ticketed and fined for simply putting food out. She is heartbroken. She has spent years helping these animals, ensuring they are fed and healthy. Now, the city is treating her like a criminal instead of a community hero.

💬 We joined forces with Holly at Capital Area Humane Society and she has called the city, wrote several emails, and pleaded for a meeting to discuss a compromise —but they have ignored her.

This feeding ban is cruel and ineffective. It does NOTHING to fix the issue and only causes more suffering. Starving cats don’t disappear! They become more visible in the community as they search for food.
