Hi everybody! Long time, no talk. I hope everyone is doing well. A little update on me and the future, I recently got married, and have been working as a kennel attendant for Lapeer County animal control since the first of this year. My job at animal control is extremely rewarding. I absolutely love each and every day I get to spend with all of these abandoned dogs and cats. With that being said, we are currently extremely extremely full with both cats and dogs at the shelter. We only have one empty kennel left.

I am writing to you all today to ask an immense favor. If you are not already following, please follow our page Lapeer county animal control. We need as many shares and eyes on these poor animals as we can. Adoptions have been extremely slow and many of our animals have been in the shelter for over 100 days.

I also received a message today from Mary and Jean’s owner. Unfortunately, their father has fell ill and they are going to be returned to us. We are at capacity in our house as well with four dogs, nine cats and a bearded dragon. I will be posting the girls on my page in hopes to find them forever homes and they will reside with us until we do find good homes for them.

We are also holding an adoption event at Lapeer County animal control on June 1 from 11 AM to 2 PM. If you are available, please stop by and say hi to me and all of our adoptable animals. We will have many vendors, a penny raffle, and I believe some food trucks as well. This event is free and a great way to support your local shelter.

A final update for you all,

-Nona has been adopted and is doing great in her new home. She lives with a mother daughter duo and a chihuahua and daschund ♥️

-We have decided to keep Tweedly (her sponsored adoption fee went towards Nona, so it did not go to waste) Tweedly is extremely bonded with Derek and when we first rescued her she was depressed for 2 weeks and didnt eat or move from behind the couch. I dont want to do that to her again.

Finally pictured is Linda who is very happy at her new home. Linda was using our house as a litter box and therefor could not be adopted out to an indoor home. Luckily, my workplace accepted her as a barn kitty and she is living her best life. She stays around the facility and greets people when they enter 🧡

Id also like to add to the update that we have kept 9 of the kitties we have rescued. We will keep them for the rest of their lives. They are our family and our children.
Tewna Melt, Calamari, Mustache Mommy, Frankie, Martin, Kelso, Josie, Tweedly, and the first kitty to start our crew, Nova. They each have their own unique stories and their unique personalities and I love them to death

‼️PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS‼️

Hi everybody, I hope you are all doing well.
As most of you know, I (Kari) have been participating in cat rescue since I was fresh out of high school. It has been an amazing experience in my life and the friends and people I have met along the way have taught me so much about myself, life, others, and I am so incredibly grateful. I am so humbled by the amount of support I have gained over the years and will never forget those who have supported me. With that being said, I am ready to start focusing on myself, and building a family. My brother recently got engaged, and life is moving and changing fast. It is time for this chapter in my life to end so I can start a new one.

I honestly, never imagined that Sour Patch Kitties would get as big as it did and I am always shocked at the amount of calls and messages i get daily. I have recieved calls from places all over michigan to help. I had someone in the Upper peninsula call me for help once. I also assisted All About Animals with a kitten surrender and took him in to rescue to be adopted out. I also was contact by Lapeer Animal Control a while back to help with TNR on a colony of about 30 cats. It ended up being 60+ cats and me and the homeowners TNRd every single one of them, with the help of your donations and support. We have accomplished so much, and I am so proud. I hope to have inspired some young people to take action and find a purpose in their life. I mostly see older folks doing rescue and that bums me out because at my age we should be doing all we can to better our future. (reminder im only 25, i started this at 19)

I will be leaving the page up for people who absolutely need to contact me, but I will no longer be replying to other messages. I will be changing my phone number as well, due to the unbelievable amount of calls and text i get daily. Having a mixture of mental illnesses, it is just way too much for me to deal with. If you would like my new phone number, please comment or message me.

I will never totally stop rescuing and saving animals. I hope to be able to continue here and there as my life allows. The rescue account has less than $200 in it and that money is being used to help a rescued kitten get vaccinated and fixed. All of your donations have gone to great use and like i said before, I am just so thankful to have spent this chapter of my life with all of you. If you know me personally, or have adopted a cat from me please dont hesitate to ask for my new number. I would love to stay in touch.

With all of that said, I still do have 2 cats to be adopted out. Nona, and Tweedly. Both are spayed and vaccinated, FIV/FELV negative. Both are great with dogs and okay with other cats. Nona would do GREAT with kids. Tweedly is very independent and likes to do her own thing. She is a sassy cat but extremely loving.

Tweedly is an approximately 6yr old spayed female. She is vaccinated and FIV/FELV tested negative.

Tweedly was found dumped on the side of the road where she sat for 2 days waiting for her original owners to come back. They never did. A kind man found her and made a plea for help. We rushed out to save her and there she was still sitting in the same spot by the same tree. She has a dent around her neck fur that indicates that she once wore a collar for a long long time. She still has this dent in her fur even though we havent had a collar on her.

Tweedly is searching for her forever home to give her the love and attention she deserves.

Tweedly is not a big fan of other cats. Some of the cats she tolerates, but does NOT play nice with other cats for the most part. She does fine with the dogs. Her ideal home would be a calm home, where she can be the only cat (or possibly with placed with a very submissive cat). She would love to recieve all of the attention and cuddles. She is SUPER loving and would make an AMAZING companion for someone older like her.

✨COURTESY POST- 3 YOUNG CATS NEED GOOD HOMES✨

These cats were dumped in the Byron area with 9 kittens. A kind stranger took them all in and was able to find homes for the babies. She is now left with these 3 young mommas that need homes.

They are NOT yet spayed or have had any vaccines as finder is unable to financially accomplish that much.

They are females, and all very sweet. They are approximately around 1yr old.

hey everyone! Just a short update on whats been going on around here.

✨TWEEDLY- Tweedly is doing great and is going to be available for adoption very soon.

✨NONA-Nona is doing absolutely amazing. She is almost completely healed, has a great apetite, and a great attitude.

✨WEBSITE-If you have viewed my website recently please know it is not updated with the current cats we have available for adoption. I am having trouble getting my updates to save for some reason but am working on it.

✨With your donations, we were able to replace our damaged carpet in the litter box room with waterproof flooring. This has already been a game changer in cleaning and the cats have stopped marking around the house now that they have a fresh new area. The carpeting before was ruined by a couple of different kitties marking on it, and some who just didnt use a litter box and were going on the floor. We rented a rug doctor and shampooed it twice and this is still how it looked after!! We are so thankful for a new cleanly enviroment for the cats and for us (considering we live here too lol). Thank you!!!

Marshmallow has been adopted!!! We miss him already but he is in a great home! He will get much more attention that he deserves. He has a kitty sister and a human sister as well 💛

He is already doing well and allowing pets from everyone in the house. Just will take him a few days to come out and come around.

🍊UPDATE ON NONA🍊

Nona went in to have her sutures removed on Friday and everything is healing up amazingly. Her leg still has a small area that needs to scab over and close up a little more but all in all she looks SOOOO much better. Dr did an amazing job stitching her degloved chin back together and although she doesnt have a completely normal mouth it is pretty damn close!!!!

She is eating so well for me, and in great spirits. She loves when I lay down on the ground with her, she rubs her face all over my face lol

We still need her to put on some more weight for us and then she will go in to be spayed at some point. It will be a little bit longer of a stay for her before she can be adopted but she is worth it 🧡

Looking for a home for this sweet gal Nala who was unfortunately returned after being adopted out by another small rescue.

“Nala was returned to us because her owner no longer wanted her. A former bottle baby , we placed her at 12 weeks. Now this sweet girl is back with us living in a pen and confused. She is the best kitty. She is now 2 years old. A beautiful tiger who actually has kind of a brown sheen to her coat. she is spayed, comes with advantix, treats and bowls. Just wants to be petted!!! 📝SHORT UPDATE

quick update for all of you before I leave for work!

💛Nona had her recheck yesterday with the doctor and he said she is healing up very nicely. We will be back next Friday for her next recheck/suture removal. She is eating great for me and is in very good spirits.

💛I recieved a check in the mail today from an anonymous donor for $1,000!!!! I started crying when I opened it. I am so incredibly grateful, for every amount big AND small that has been donated to my rescue. The amount of support from you all is so greatly appreciated, you have no idea.

💛STILL WAITING VERY PATIENTLY FOR HIS FOREVER HOME💛

✨MARSHMALLOW✨ aka Marshy

Marshmallow is still waiting for his forever home!!
Marshy is an almost 1 year old, neutered male. He is vaccinated, FIV/FELV tested negative, and a very very good boy.

Marshmallow does well with dogs, cats, and would be fine with respectful children.

Marshy was once a semi feral stray who was very loved by his caretakers but needed to be trapped, fixed, and placed in an indoor home. So thats where we came in. Unfortunately, after having Marshmallow fixed, we had an accident and had 3 cats escape. Marshmallow was missing for about a month until we finally found him being cared for by some people less than a mile away. We brought him back to rescue and ever since he has had NO desire to go back outside. He does love looking out the windows, but he does not mess with them or meow sadly at them like he wants to leave lol

Marshmallows ideal home would be one with AT LEAST 1 other cat that he can play with. He does very well with our females here. He would be ok with a dog friend or two, he doesnt mind them. He is really looking for someone who can give him a ton of attention. He LOVES to cuddle and be in your lap. He loves pets and snuggles and kissies.

Because of growing up without much human contact, he is still nervous of strangers when they come in the house. He warms up VERY quickly though. He does not swat or bite at all, but he does run and hide at first. Anyone who is interested must know that he will take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to adjust to your household and blossom into the awesome cat he is. He is so worth the patience though.
Please give him the chance to show you how much love he has to give.
