Baby photos make my heart pitter patter!
One of our babies after her grooming sesh!
It is imperative for breeders to socialize, desensitize, and train their dogs. This goes for our puppies as well. Daily socializing and desensitization protocols here are standard for every puppy born here.
I start grooming them at 3-4 weeks, depending on where we are at as far as their development goes, and continue to do grooming sessions every week until 8-10 weeks, then monthly groom sessions. My grooming sessions consist of bathing, cleaning their ears, teeth brushing, nail trimming, nail filing w/ dremel, brushing/combing, and drying with a high velocity dryer.
The grooming process is another important protocol i maintain in my program for my puppies and dogs as I will tell you that an unruly dog in the tub, on the table, or in the kennel is absolutely unacceptable and unsafe.
This process is NECESSARY for all dogs and training them to sit, stand, and stay where we need them is important as well as desensitizing them to the sounds, the different sensations of brushing, combing, water, having their toes and nails touched, ears touched, having the hair between their paw pads scrubbed and clipped, and thenfeelingnofnthebdrying blowing air on them are just a few things. I am only scratching the surface here in this post, but I find it incredibly important.
Taking your dog to a professional groomer isn't a bad idea. It's a great biden if I may say so myself. However, a dog that is unkempt and naughty will cost you more in the long run, so keep socializing, training, and desensitizing those puppies and adults!
Skin and coat health is important, and let's face it, nobody wants to wrestle a large breed dog in the tub, not even the professional groomer, so this process here, will save all of us in the long run, you, me and the dog, and your groomer if that's the route you take with keeping your best pal clean, happy and healthy!
