Hi Laredo Welcome to the official page of Paws of Luck and Hope Shelter! I am so excited to see you here!
The story of Summer Hope is proof we can all make a difference in the lives of these doggies. The story of Summer Hope started on Agust 10 when I was casually scrolling through Facebook and saw a post about her.She immediately touched my heart and in seconds I knew I had to do something.I picked her up within two hours of the post being up(second pic). When I first saw her I couldnβt help but notice she was completely covered in ticks! The pictures do no adjustments to how truly infected she was.Every inch of her body was covered in them!My first initial thought was what am I getting myself into as I am in my senior year of high school.None the less I saw the cry for help in her face.I picked her up and that night the work started.I started by running to Walmart and picking up items to remove the ticks.I started by removed the ticks on her face which was a scene out of a horror movie in itself. The week that followed was without a doubt the most difficult. The days consisted of hours spent picking off dead ticks, getting her to eat, learning who she was, walks, baths, vet visits and more.At the vet she was diagnosed with a bad case of tick feaver along with two parasites in her stomach and an eye infection. With the help of donations I was able to pay her vet bills and medications along with vaccines. The next two weeks I continued working with her so that she slowly gained her confidence back.I took her on walks where we sometimes meet friends who had been following her story. We took trips to the dog spa where she got nail trims and a bath like the queen she is.By her second vet visit she was about 80% clear of ticks and had gained a little over five pounds.Days followed and she go much better.I am happy to say she is now completely healthy and is about to finish her 30 day dosage of medication! She is the sweetest most happiest doggie with a beautiful coat and big green eyes!Because I am a high school and collage student with a part time job I got worried about taking in another dog permanently so I started looking for possible forever homes for her but giving her to another family was quickly shut down as I had fallen in love with her and so had my family. She is now part of my family and has three sisters who love her just as much. She now spends her days laying in the summer sun or running around with her sisters. When she is not with them she is busy snuggling with me.
Summer hope has been my motivation to start another dog shelter in Laredo as there is a huge need for a voice to these dogs. The shelter is already being registered with the state and with the IRS so it is a non profit.I am happy to say this will also be a no kill shelter. So follow the page and stick along for the journey to come! If anybody would like to provide their services in the future please message me, they(doggies) need all the help they can get.I will start to take donations from the community once my 501 (c) (3) form is established but for now your like and share is more than enough support.
Summer hope and I are thankful for all of you! ππ¦΄πΎπ
