Merlin is 17 years young and still exudes the vibrant energy of a kitten. This precious soul has profoundly impacted my life, inspiring my husband and me to dedicate ourselves to helping adult and senior cats in need. While we welcome cats of all ages, Merlin's story has instilled in us a deeper passion for supporting our mature feline friends. Three years ago, we encountered Merlin while assisting another rescue organization. His heartbreaking story touched our hearts. This beautiful boy had been callously discarded by his previous owners, who abandoned him when they moved, fabricating his history in the process. The trauma he endured left him shattered, and he became withdrawn, struggling with anxiety and depression. His emotional pain manifested physically, causing him to lick himself raw, leading to hair loss on his legs, stomach, and lower back. Furthermore, he suffered from excessive shedding and dandruff. Despite his youthful spirit, Merlin's life had been marked by hardship. His previous owners had deceived him, leaving him feeling lost and unloved. After months in an adoption center, a couple expressed interest in meeting him. Although Merlin's excitement was palpable as he played and interacted with the couple, they ultimately decided not to adopt him due to their condo's pet restrictions. This devastating rejection sent Merlin into a deep despair, causing him to withdraw into his shell once more. His story lingered in my mind, and I found myself visiting him daily, until one evening, I made the decision to bring him home. As we settled him into his new environment, Merlin curled up on a heating pad, and aside from necessities, he refused to leave my side. A veterinary checkup revealed that Merlin was approximately 14 years old, yet remarkably healthy. Today, Merlin thrives in our loving home, surrounded by six feline companions and two canine friends. My husband affectionately describes him as an Italian cat from Brooklyn, with his broad shoulders and slender legs. ๐ This majestic boy, while occasionally cranky when kittens become too rambunctious, lives a life of luxury. He has claimed the spare bedroom as his throne room, graciously allowing us to serve him. Each night, Merlin joins me in bed, sleeping soundly on the pillow above my head, a tradition we've cherished for the past three years.
