In addition to not letting anyone tell you that there is no hope, don't let anyone talk you into using tools that when improperly used can truly hurt your dog. Learn to be the focus in your dog's life instead of trusting an inanimate object to control your dog. My philosophy on this is that if you need to rely on, or think you must rely on, a tool to keep your dog under control, then you are not the one in control.
