Happy National K9 Veterans Day!!!

Heroes come in many forms, including the four-legged variety. That's why, on March 13th each year, dogs that have served in the military, law enforcement, and search and rescue are celebrated with National K9 Veterans Day. The day of recognition was inspired by Joe White, a Vietnam War veteran and K9 handler. The United States K9 Corps was established in 1942.

Every spring, thousands of fish swim through Utrecht’s (The Netherlands) canals and waterways, searching for a place to spawn and reproduce. When the lock gates are closed, fish are forced to wait, wasting valuable time and energy – making them easy prey for birds and predatory fish.

To help the fish, an underwater camera is installed at the lock. If fish appear on the screen, you can press the doorbell! This alerts the lock keeper, who will open the lock when many fish are waiting. The Fish Doorbell is a fun way to help us learn more about the species swimming through the city. We use this knowledge to improve the quality of underwater life.

The Fish Doorbell is an initiative of the municipality of Utrecht, Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden (HDSR), and Mark van Heukelum of Dutch Wallfish.

Did you spot a fish? Press the Fish Doorbell! This alerts our lock operator to let the fish through. The Fish Doorbell is in Utrecht, NL.

Yesterday, a brave patient named Charlie came in after experiencing a heat stroke. Once his owners realized what happened, they rushed him straight to our emergency hospital at TBVS.

Charlie presented to us with classic signs of heat stroke and was immediately taken to our ICU to start treatment. We here at TBVS are very familiar with heat stroke cases in Florida. Our goal is to raise awareness and help prevent these situations.

Charlie was a fighter from start to finish and quickly became a beloved member of our hospital family. He made a full recovery thanks to our dedicated team. We’re happy to report that Charlie is home, safe, and back with his family where he belongs—happy and healthy!

Meet Zuko, a sweet 2-year-old DSH 😸, who recently came in for a visit to our Cardiology department after an episode of stress-induced congestive heart failure (CHF).

At TBVS, we’re committed to making every visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible for all our patients, just like Zuko! Dr. Fauske and her incredible team of Alex and Demi, use Fear-free techniques to ensure your pets feel safe and relaxed for their check-up 🫂🥰- this relates to your pet's groomer, or even during boarding.

We believe in creating a calm and welcoming environment with everything from soft, twinkling lights to spacious treatment rooms ✨ no kennels are needed ✨. Plus, food motivation (like Zuko’s favorite Churu treat) helps keep our patients happy and engaged, so we can gather important diagnostic information without stress.

Because stress can have a big impact on heart health, we take extra care to reduce anxiety. One of the ways we do this is with a special sound machine that plays soothing music at a frequency that lowers stress in animals. We’ve seen firsthand how this helps our patients’ heart rates stay calm during procedures like echocardiograms, allowing us to provide the most accurate care possible.

Our cardiology team is excited to continue offering fear-free visits and provide the best, most compassionate care for your pets. Thank you for trusting us with their health! 💕🐱🐶

🐾 Meet Georgia, our resilient and brave pup! 🐾
This sweet girl came in to see us for some concerning symptoms — severe seizures and acting a bit like a zombie. 😟 After some thorough diagnostics and starting treatment, we're so happy to say that Georgia is back to her happy, healthy self! 🙌

Not only is she seizure-free, but she’s also got her appetite back in full force — she's one hungry girl now! 🍖🥳

We’re thrilled to see Georgia thriving again, and we're so proud of her for being such a trooper through the process. 💙

Meet Popo! 🐾 When she first came to us, she was struggling – unable to walk, in pain, and dealing with ear and skin issues. After careful evaluation by our neurology, surgery, and dermatology teams, we’re thrilled to see this sweet girl transform! 💖

Today, Popo is not just walking—she’s running, playing, and living her best life with her sibling. 🐱💨 It's moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. Huge thanks to our amazing team for making this incredible recovery possible!

🎉🐾 It’s Almost International Dress Your Pet Day! 🐾🎉

At TBVS, we know that trips to the vet can sometimes be a little scary or stressful for our furry friends. It’s not always the most fun experience for them (or for us!). But one thing we do love is seeing our pets dressed up in adorable outfits! 🐶🐱💕

Did you know? Our staff’s pets come to work with us most days—and trust us, they’re always dressed to impress! Whether it’s a cozy sweater or a little bow tie, we love seeing our pets rock their fashion styles all year long. 👗👚🎩

We also know that every pet is the cutest, most handsome, or most beautiful in their owner’s eyes... and when you add a little flair to their look, they become even more irresistible! 😍 So, for International Dress Your Pet Day on January 14th, we want to see your pets in their best outfits!

📸 Submit a photo of your pet looking their most stylish to our email at [email protected], with the subject line saying “Dress Your Pet” with your pet’s name, and we’ll feature them in our Facebook post celebrating this fun day. We can’t wait to see all the fur-tastic looks you and your pets create! 🌟

Let's make International Dress Your Pet Day a day to remember—full of fashion, fun, and lots of smiles! 🐾✨

🎉🐾 Happy New Year from Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center 🐾🎉
As we ring in the new year, we want to remind all pet owners to be mindful of how loud noises, like fireworks and celebrations, can affect our furry friends. The loud sounds and sudden bursts of noise can cause anxiety in pets, often leading them to run off or hide in fear.
Here are some helpful tips to keep your pets safe and calm during the festivities:
🔹 Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable area where your pet can retreat to. Close windows, blinds, and doors to block out the noise as much as possible.
🔹 Distraction: Use background noise like a TV or music to drown out the sounds of fireworks. This can help mask the noise and create a calming environment.
🔹 Comfort & Companionship: Stay with your pet if possible, and offer them comfort with gentle petting or a calming voice. Your presence can be very reassuring!
🔹 Desensitization Training: If possible, gradually expose your pet to loud noises in a controlled way before the big night to help reduce their anxiety.
🔹 Consult a Veterinarian: For pets with severe anxiety, ask your vet about calming products or medications that may help ease their stress.
We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and noise-free celebration with their furry companions. 🐶🐱 Wishing you all a Happy New Year filled with joy, health, and wagging tails!
Stay safe, and let's make it a great start to 2025! ✨💖
