Help your furry friends stay comfortable in the heat! Prepare your pet for the heat of summer with these tips:
1. Maintain a climate-controlled environment for your pets whenever possible. NEVER leave you pet all in the car.

SIGNS OF HEARTWORM DISEASE
The sooner you diagnose heartworm disease, the higher the chance for successful treatment. Contact your veterinarian if you notice any of these symptoms: dry cough, lethargy, swollen belly, or difficulty breathing. A mosquito bite can lead to heartworm larvae getting into your pet’s bloodstream. Year-round protection is a must!! Read more at East Bay Animal Hospital’s Vet-Source on-line pharmacy blog:

Spring is quickly approaching with blooming flowers, breezy days and annoying pests. FLEAS: they can cause excessive scratching, licking, lost hair, scabs, or hot spots on your pet's skin. Use a flea comb - the flea droppings are black specks and the flea eggs are white. TICKS: can jump onto your pet during a walk. Their favorite places are the pet's head, ears, paws belly, legs or around the eyes. If you notice signs, give us a call 727-536-2743

MARCH 17-23 is National Pet Poison Prevention Week and time to become aware of some of the many plants that are POISONOUS to both cats and dogs. For some plant types, it only takes a nibble to send you to the emergency vet. It can be very frightening and the most important thing is to STAY CALM and get to a veterinarian immediately!! We can accommodate most emergencies during our regular office hours. Call 727-536-2743 or visit our website https://www.eastbayanimalhospital.com/emergency-services-veterinarian-largo-florida.html

Myth #1: Fleas and ticks only live in dirty homes.
Fleas and ticks do not discriminate and will live anywhere they can find an innocent pup or kitty to feed on.

Myth #2: Flea and tick preventives are unnecessary in the winter.
Unfortunately, fleas and ticks can still be active and thrive even in colder temperatures.

Myth #3: Flea and tick preventives are toxic to pets.
Flea and tick preventives have been thoroughly tested and are considered safe for use in pets when used as directed.

Myth #4: Flea collars are the best way to prevent fleas and ticks.
Flea collars are not as effective as topical or oral preventives which provide complete protection against fleas and ticks.
