Obedience is something one uses every day.. In the home and field.
There teaching of “place” makes learning so much easier for dogs, especially puppies. “Kor”, the youngest student in the summer Gun Dog session at not quite 5 months of age, is starting to put commands together with the “place” command as the foundation.
A new day, a new crop of students, feeling blessed.
Watching one of the younger dogs showing his stuff.
The CONDITIONED RETRIEVE
Many people call this 'force fetch'.. I think that indicates one is forcing a dog to retrieve. While that is partially true. It really is installing a response to pick up, hold and release an object.
Once it is understood, when told to FETCH a standard becomes enFORCEable. Just like every other command (sit, heel, here, etc.). There is 'force' that comes with every command.. How much depends on resistance. Ones lowers resistance by showing, teaching.. Knowing that it is understood by student.
It truly is the cornerstone of the trained retrievers foundation.
It DOES NOT have to be the nightmare people make it out to be.
One of the rewards of patiently incorporating a plan daily.
Stanley was intimidated by water. He would venture in with extreme caution. It's been fun watching his love of retrieving grow to include water.
These 3 aren't the only stooges on board.🤣
One can't study ALL the time.
