Do you ever wonder what a day in the life of a groomer is? Let me tell ya:
6:20a: wake up to two missed calls. One at 11:32p and one at 5:47a.
6:30a: my 6 year old has a fever and is coming to work with me.
8:00a (on the dot): my bather quit one hour before her shift. No biggie, I took the pooches on her schedule.
8:05a: caught up on returning phone calls and text from day before.
8:20a: arrive at work, kid and her crap in tow, and set both she and myself up.
9:00a: a family of 4 dogs come in. Plus, one for my other groomer (shout out to Sherry!)
10:00a: client comes in asking for a service that takes twice as long as the service she booked. This is her usual. We don't have time and I tell her this is the last time we will accommodate. She tells me to, "just do the work and we'll have a conversation later". I deny the client services. She goes on Google and gives us a 1-star review.
10:30a: Sherry gets a dog that is snapping at her. Which is fine, poor Pooch is scared.
10:30a: my appointment; a heeler steps off the table with her back leg (opposite side of the table than I am standing). In an effort to help her, I reach my arm through her legs to hold her up. She is scared and starts biting. We're in a Loney Toons tumble as she is rightfully freaked out and I'm trying to not let her jump off the table. Ultimately, I was bit a few times on my hands and arms, and once on my face - but I was super lucky and didn't have to go to the hospital. I am fine. The pooch is fine. We forgave one other after some lovings, and she looked guilty as I put on her harness. She is not aggressive! It was a bad situation.
10:30a: Sherry takes my appointment for a dog, who also bites and is on medication for anxiety. She does extremely well with him. Claps for Sherry.
10:30a: Sherry has her own appointment for a dog that is struggling with anxiety. Now, tension in the dogs is high, she is snapped at. Again, not because the dog is aggressive.
11:00a: respond to the texts from the lady I denied services at 10:00a. She now hates me, I suck at life, and am unprofessional. I apologize and wish her the best.
11:30a: another client wants services that take longer than the ones I had on the schedule. However, she's booked a year out (automatically booked for the year) and that can get confusing, for both of us. She's amazing, very kind, and her dogs are great. We agree on the services that take longer. She is understanding I'm behind for the day.
12:30p: all morning dogs are gone and Sherry has 2 more coming in. I have to clean, my kid is going crazy because she's been there since 8:20a, entertaining herself. Although, according to her, she has not been entertaining herself, she is bored 😂
1:00p: I send my last dog home.
2:30p. Sherry is done. Yay! I am still cleaning and head home with the kid. We stop by Circle K to get her a donut because she was amazing while I was working.
3:30p: call and text back 10-15 people who called and text throughout the day. My clients are nothing short of amazing and extremely patient, especially today.
5:00p: still texting clients, responding to a crap review from the lady who gave me a 1-star.
I still have to make dinner! 😂

Anyone else want to own a small grooming business?! This was only today. Be patient, be kind, be understanding. This work isn't for the lazy, but is definitely for the crazy! Thank you to everyone who was extremely understanding today, you guys and your sweet pooches make the insanity worth it 🐾 ❤️
