Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸
As the fireworks will be starting, it's essential to ensure the safety and well-being of our furry friends. As the fireworks can be stressful, here are some tips to keep your pets safe and comfortable during this time:
1. Keep Your Pets Indoors: Loud noises from fireworks can scare pets and may cause them to run away. Keeping them inside in a quiet secure room will help them feel safe.
2. Create a Safe Space: Provide a comfortable hiding place, such as a crate or a cozy corner with their favorite toys and blankets.
3. Identification-Plan Ahead: Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with up-to-date ID tags. In case they do escape, this will help them find their way back home.
4. Exercise Early: Take your dog for a walk or exercise them earlier in the day before fireworks start. This may help them feel calmer later on.
5. Stay Calm: Pets can pick up on their owner's stress. Remain calm and reassuring to help your pet feel safe.
6. Consult Your Vet early: If your pet suffers from extreme anxiety during fireworks, please give us a call so we can consult with one of our veterinarians.
By following these tips, we can ensure our pets have a safe and stress-free Fourth of July. We hope you and your family have a safe and fun holiday!

The month of April is Heartworm Prevention Month 🦟❤️‍🩹

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in dogs that causes severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body.

How do pets contract it?
Infections do start from mosquitoes that carry heartworm larvae. If a mosquito carrier bites your pet, the larvae enters their bloodstream and grows in their arteries, heart and lungs.

If you do have a heartworm positive pet, there is treatment. Although treatment can be costly, timely and intense to undergo, the outcome is effective. However, if left untreated, heartworms will continue to grow, produce offspring and increase the number of heartworms.

How to prevent Heartworm Disease?
Luckily, heartworm prevention is easy! There are several heartworm preventatives that you can be prescribed by your vet. Prevention can be given orally, topically or as an injection. Preventative are fairly inexpensive and should be routinely given.

We want to remind every pet owner how important it is to keep up with your preventatives, even for indoor animals! Help stop the spread of heartworm disease by keeping your pets up-to-date on their monthly preventatives and annual wellness exams! Contact your veterinary clinic and ask about different preventions they offer especially with warmer weather approaching! 🐶
