We are sending all of our thoughts and love out to those affected by the fires in Ruidoso. We hope everyone and every animal can get out safely.

This "GO" evacuation did get me thinking about if we had an emergency evacuation, would we be prepared to leave at the drop of a hat? Are you prepared?

Consider putting together two emergency go kits, 1 for the humans and 1 for your pets.

Both photos list items to have packed in a water-tight container that you can grab and go.

Here are other things to make sure of before an emergency:
Is your pets microchip up-to-date with your most current information? Do you have a reliable emergency contact listed as well?

Have you checked to make sure your pets microchip is scannable?

Be sure to have in your first aid kit things for humans first aid and pet first aid.

Have a small cooler and ice packs available so you can easily leave with any medications that need to be refrigerated.

Items listed in the kits:
Food, water, paper plates, utensils, collapsable bowls, litter box, extra collars and leashes, towels, warm clothes, manual can opener, cash, muzzle, first aid kits, map, gloves, mask, p**p bags, flashlight, batteries, radio, tape, copies of important documents (including from your Vet: vaccinations, microchip), emergency/important phone numbers, current photo(s) of your pets WITH YOU, solar phone charger, plastic bags, whistle, prescription and non-prescription medication.

Did you know that we offer tricks classes? Tricks can be such a fun (and sometimes useful) thing to teach our dogs.

During this 4-week course we can work on any tricks of your choosing. Then at the end of the class test your dog for an AKC trick title.

Many have asked, so here you are. We have a 4-week Canine Good Citizen (CGC) prep course on the schedule. Class starts on Fri., August 9th @ 6pm-7pm.

During the 4-weeks we will cover all 10 CGC test items:
🐾Accepting a friendly stranger
🐶Sitting politely for petting
🐩Appearance and Grooming
🦮Loose leash walking
🐕‍🦺Walking through a crowd
🐾Sit/Down stay
🐕Come
🐶Reaction to distraction
🐩Reaction to a neutral dog
🦮3-minute supervised separation

At the end of the 4-weeks you can test your dog for their CGC at no extra cost.

This Sunday, April 28th we will be having our event “Picnic with a Pup” to honor National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day! 🌭 There will be free hot dogs and games. Thank you to Wienerschnitzel for providing the hot dogs! This event will help the healthy, available dogs out the medical facility. Their adoption fee will be $25. Bring the whole family to adopt your fur-ever friend. 🐾
