For Pet Dental Month, Island Pet wanted to give you all some brief tips and fun facts about the pros of doing annual dental checks for your pets!

1. Did you know around 70% of pets around 3 years old show some degree of periodontal disease? Bringing your pet in for annual dental checks could save your pet's teeth in the long run catching these signs sooner.

2. Adult canines have 42 teeth and adult felines have 30 teeth. That's right folks, the more teeth the more responsibility. We encourage owners to bring in their pets at least once a year for dental estimates if their pets have any sort of discomfort of any kind. Reason being, if one or two teeth are the problem, the remaining in their mouth are now at risk if not treated.

3. Dental disease isn't the only culprit here! Believe it or not, your pet’s teeth and gums actually aren’t our only concern when it comes to the state of your pet’s mouth, its plaque as well. Plaque build up can lead to gum irritation and creates the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive.

1. Cats spend 70% of their life sleeping. Got to save that energy to pounce at any moment!

2. When rabbits are happy, they jump around and flick their head and feet! They are the definition of Happy Feet.

3. Hamsters are illegal to own in Hawai'i. Reason being that if they were to escape and breed, they could end up destroying plants and other animals. WOW small yet so mighty!

4. Guinea pigs make 11 individual sounds! Guinea pigs are very clever and use these sounds to communicate.

5. Did you know it is National Love Your Pet Day every Feb 20th?! Make sure to mark it in your calendars for future celebrations !!
