Christmas Hike at Red Rock Canyon (Calico Basin- Ash Spring trail) through photos in my stylish Plum Purple Zip/Snap Fleece.

Sending LOVE from the wedding Capital of the world

We visited the BIG HEART -shaped sculpture in front of the Las Vegas Wedding Bureau. It is 1300-pound, 10-foot-tall steel heart with a red powder coat finish, was revealed on Valentines Day.

Very rare moment… I got popped after a day adventures at . We had a fun filled day. Then at the loop when mommy asked me to jump up next to her in the bench, I just fall asleep. 💤

Spring is coming...At least mommy keeps saying...

Calico Basin adventures.
Calico Basin area belongs to the Red Rock Canyon, but unlike the loop, there is no admission.

The red and white sandstone and gray limestone found here provides amazing views.
Our favorite spot is the end of the paved road. You have to pass the boardwalk and just keep driving until the paved road ends. You will find a parking space there. 3 trails starts from there.
Ash Spring, Kraft Mountain & Girl Scout. They so different distances. We followed Girl Scout. It’s our favorite spot.

It was awesome to explore after the snow. It was a bit muddy sometimes, since the snow was already melting, but our leggings protected my feet from all the elements.
Many people sp*ed stopped us asking about them, since so the shoes they got was falling off the doggies feet. Not these ones! You won’t lose these!

Red Rock Canyon - MIDDLE OAK CREEK TRAIL

Yesterday the weather was beautiful, so we decided to go for an adventure. We visited Red Rock Canyon, which is located about 25 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. Just take Highway 215 to Charleston Exit, which will turn into Route 159.

There is a one-way 13-mile scenic drive at Red Rock Canyon (there is a fee to take the scenic drive). Also Red Rock Canyon has put a reservation system in place for the Scenic Drive. Reservations are required from October 1st to May 31st!

There are wide variety of hiking trails Red Rock Canyon.
We skipped the scenic drive and went to MIDDLE OAK CREEK TRAIL.

You can access this trail from a dirt pull-out along Route 159, about 0.6 miles south of the Scenic Drive exit. Cross the fence in the little opening and follow the desert trail as it leads you into Oak Creek Canyon.

Watch out which way where the error point at, because we took the wrong turn first, before we found the trail.(we saw on the Internet we weren’t the only ones 🤫)

Some say on the Internet, it’s a straight trail, some it’s a loop. We definitely took the loop. On the way we were walking partly on smaller rocks in the red dirt, on the way back the trail was much smoother, more like brownish dirt.

So the loop is supposed to be 4.7-mile. It was moderately challenging and it took us about 2 hrs (including the little piknik time at the end), which is not really an end. You can continue with several different connecting trails from there in different directions. Seems to be a popular area for hiking/ running.

Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Saw many dogs, mostly much bigger than me. They all stood to the side when they saw us approaching.

The best times to visit this trail are October through May.
We were hit by the sun all the way, which was great in the winter months, but not really good in the summer heat.

This was literally a breathtaking hike !!!! The snow was amazing to look at in the canyon.
