The difficult side of breeding. Everyone thinks it's all puppy kisses and cuddles. But when a puppy isn't feeling well, they come down hard and fast with symptoms. Time is of the essence, and often time delays result in loss of life.
This precious angel ate some wood from a tree that severely upset her stomach. The tree was dug up and removed from our property. But she likely found the one lone root that was on the ground and ate a piece of it. Vomiting, diarrhea, and listlessness ensued.
At times like these, we dont take ANY chances! We rush to the vet for care. Our vet LOVES us but also knows I'm a worry wart! She thoroughly and completely checked Champagne, commented on her excellent health, hydration, body composition, and temperature. She prescribed anti-acid meds and sent her home.
That night was HORRIBLE. She slept in our bed and we fed her 2 ML's of water every hour. I kept her temperature and breathing monitored. Her diarrhea got WAY WORSE before it got better. But we slowly nurtured her and gave her gut nutrients and rest and sure enough in 24 hours she had bounced back.
Now she believes she's Grandma's baby and should be held or sleep with me at all times ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ. Of course we can't allow that so we are nurturing her back to her crate.
Breeding is love, laughter, and puppy kisses. But it's also, worry, stress, lack of sleep, hours of work, and yes, sometimes even some tears ๐ญ.
Baby girl is back to herself and running wild and free. Champagne is available!
