✨CLIENT TESTIMONIAL✨
“We adopted Loki in December 2021; he was 7 weeks old. We were not able to start training with him as soon as we had hoped due to family issues, but we were trying to get the basics in sit, don’t, no, off. In October 2022 along came Lucy. We were told that she was 3 months old and was saved from an abusive situation. She had been beaten, attacked by other dogs, and thrown in the backyard to fend for herself. The people would throw food out there for her and the other dogs to fight over. We felt so bad we knew we needed to save her, and we brought her home. She weighed 23lbs and was 6 months old not 3. She was very small, bony, and scared. She barked and snapped at people; she did not warm up right away. She was in constant fight mode. We had no idea what this poor girl had been through, but by her actions we could tell it was not good. When we walked her, she would try attacking cars and people. She was out of control. In the beginning Loki and Lucy seemed to get along really well. Loki is a very easy going dog and really liked her. He wanted to play all the time. We started noticing that Lucy was not playing like normal puppies. She was attacking Loki. She was blocking the door for him to come inside, and she would chase and bite him if he got too close. Sometimes she would just run at him and bite him unprovoked. Loki was in flight mode, he wanted to stay away from her. He would hide and cower in the corner. He would run from her and try to go to one of us to protect him. He had bite marks all over his face and body all the time. Lucy was so sweet when Loki was not around. We decided at that point to separate them unless we were with them. We put up gates, used tables and other things to block doorways. It was not an ideal situation. If Lucy even heard Loki she would freak out and start trying to break out and get him. It got to the point where we did not think they we would ever be able to have them in the same room. We could not have people over, because Lucy would constantly bark and snap at them. We were heartbroken and felt defeated. We did not want to give up on this little girl but had to think of what was best for us and our other pets. We started looking to rehome Lucy. After discussing this decision at our vet’s office, the staff recommended calling Lindsey with Lorenzo’s, they said her, and her team were great and would be able to help us. I was hesitant because I had lost all hope, but I called, and we scheduled a meeting. What could it hurt?
Lindsey, Ally, and Ashton came to our home. Lucy barked for most of the consultation, we had to talk over her barking. Lindsey did some training with Lucy to get her to stop barking, Lucy stopped, she followed directions. I was shocked. I actually cried because that was the moment, I knew there was hope. I never thought in a million years that Lucy would submit and she did. I knew at that moment that we were going to be able to keep her and we would be able to take the gate down.
Ashton trained Lucy and Ally trained Loki. Ashton took Lucy for two weeks and Ally trained Loki at our home. We all had some work to do. I never thought it would take me so long to learn how to hold a leash properly. We took this training very seriously and we still are. We did train with Lucy and Loki together while Lucy was still doing her 2 weeks with Ashton, and I could see a difference at that session. The first day Lucy was home, her and Loki laid together on the couch and napped. Both were very relaxed, I was shocked. Ashton did such a great job with Lucy and Ally was so good with Loki. Loki shuts down very quickly and Ally was right on top of that to get him to perk back up. I have learned so much from Ashton and Ally. They are very patient and helped us remember commands, how to hold the leash, and helped us feel more confident. I cannot even begin to tell you how grateful I am for them. We still have a long way to go, but now we have the proper tools to help us get there. We still monitor the dogs together to make sure Lucy does not revert to attack mode, but I have no doubt that will not happen. Loki has some food aggressions that we have worked on, and things are so much more relaxed. We take Lucy and Loki on regular walks together and they do so well. Truly amazing, we did 8 weeks of training. These dogs have completely transformed.
During the consultation visit Lindsey asked me what my hopes were for Lucy, and I just really wanted her to be happy and relaxed and know we are not giving up on her. For Loki it was not to be in hiding and get attacked. Also, to stop being food aggressive. Most of all I just wanted both dogs to be able to be in the same room with us, watching TV and relaxing. We have that now!
Thank you so much Ally, Ashton, and Lindsey from the bottom of our hearts!”
