Welcome to our newest extern, Megan!

Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Megan's passion for veterinary medicine began with her two beloved yellow Labs. Her natural affinity for animals and curiosity about different species emerged early, laying the foundation for her future career.

Her commitment to veterinary medicine solidified during her undergraduate studies at The University of Florida. Starting in her freshman year, she gained valuable experience by shadowing at a small animal hospital over the summer. She later volunteered at the local humane society, where she progressed from veterinary assisting to working in their spay and neuter clinic. Her experience was further enriched by an internship at a wildlife hospital before graduating in 2021.

Currently pursuing her veterinary degree at The University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine, Megan expects to graduate in May 2025.

During her time in veterinary school, she has worked as an emergency surgery technician for overnight surgeries. Her research experience includes working with sea turtles, performing necropsies, and studying endangered bats.

During this externship, Megan looks forward to gaining more technical experience and shadowing doctors to learn how they approach different cases, particularly those involving exotic animals.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, exploring new cuisines, reading, listening to music, and spending time with her cat, Adaline.

These incredible organizations work together to protect families experiencing domestic violence or human trafficking, ensuring both people and their beloved pets have a safe place to stay. The Shade Tree provides emergency shelter and support services, while Noah's Animal House offers on-site pet boarding - because no one should have to choose between their safety and their furry family members.

We're collecting donations at our hospital to help these organizations continue their vital work in our community. Whether it's pet supplies, essential items, or monetary contributions, every donation makes a difference in keeping families and their pets together during difficult times.

Please drop off your donations by December 31st to help us make a meaningful impact this holiday season.

🦃 This Thanksgiving, let’s keep ALL of our pets safe and healthy! Whether you have dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, or small mammals, it’s important to be mindful of holiday hazards. While you’re enjoying your festive meal, remember that many Thanksgiving foods can be dangerous for our animal companions:

🐕 Dogs: Avoid turkey bones (they can splinter!), fatty foods, gravy, stuffing with onions or garlic, and desserts with xylitol.

🐱 Cats: Keep them away from turkey skin, rich dairy products, and any dishes containing onions, garlic, or chives which are toxic.

🦜 Birds & Exotic Pets: Most holiday foods are too rich or salty for these sensitive friends. Avoid sharing human food entirely with your feathered friends, reptiles, or small mammals.

Instead, show your pets you care with species-appropriate treats and keep their regular feeding schedule to prevent upset tummies.

Remember, a happy holiday is a safe holiday! 🐾 Share this with your friends and family! ✅

Welcome to our newest extern, Lindsay!

Lindsay grew up in the Poconos of Pennsylvania before moving to Charlotte, North Carolina at age 14. From an early age, she was surrounded by a variety of pets including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, chickens, goats, horses, rabbits, and hamsters. Her passion for veterinary medicine manifested early; she was often found playing doctor with her stuffed animals and even created a PowerPoint presentation to convince her mom she could responsibly care for a parakeet.

Lindsay's hands-on experience with animals began at age 12, working at a nearby horse barn and pet sitting. During her teenage years, she volunteered at animal shelters, laying the groundwork for her future career. For her undergraduate studies, she attended Clemson University and during this time she worked as a kennel technician and shortly progressed to a veterinary technician assistant. After graduating in 2015, she completed an exciting internship at a large exotic animal facility in Texas, working with lions, tigers, and bears.

Before starting veterinary school, Lindsay worked as a veterinary technician at a county animal shelter, where she headed the heartworm department and served as a surgical veterinary technician for three years. Lindsay is currently attending St. George's School of Veterinary Medicine, with an expected graduation in 2025.

During her externship, Lindsay is excited to gain more experience with exotic animals and expand her comfort level working with different species.

In her spare time, she enjoys binge-watching shows on Netflix and spending time with her own pets: Murphy (a terrier), Oden (a one-eyed cat), and Cecil (a crested gecko).

Lindsay is passionate about client education, drawing from her experience working with low-income families at the county shelter. This experience taught her the importance of compassionate veterinary care and finding ways to help pet owners provide the best possible care while working within their means.
