On December 26th, a family driving back from California pulled off the I-15 to stretch their legs. Down a dirt road, they spotted something struggling to hop behind a bush. It was Alfred—a skeletal, injured dog, barely clinging to life in the freezing desert.
When they approached, he came right up to them, as if begging for help. Even in agony, he followed them, desperate for help. He was starving, dehydrated, and freezing, with open wounds and barely able to drag himself along - they couldn’t leave him there.
On the car ride home, once warmed up by the car heater, Alfred crawled onto his rescuer’s chest, tucking his head under her neck and sighed with relief, finally finding safety. His deep, soulful stares into their eyes told them everything.
At the vet, X-rays revealed devastating injuries that can only be repaired with extensive orthopedic surgeries. Without them, Alfred would need to be euthanized. But this brave boy is fighting to live, and his rescuers wouldn’t give up on him, even though he wasn’t their dog. They’ve already spent a tremendous amount of money to save his life, but now, Alfred needs all of us.
This family of heroes has been seeking assistance for Alfred and finally found it at Hearts Alive Village - but we need your help. The orthopedic surgeon estimated at least 3,500 to save both of Alfred’s legs. This would be a series of potentially three operations. Although a fraction of what it would cost at other hospitals it’s still a heavy lift.... but not if we do it together!
We are also seeking a medical foster to help Alfred rehabilitate after his surgeries. Please spread the word and help if you can.
