The Canine Trade Group dog training program was designed by dog trainer expert John Van Olden, who has cultivated a lifetime love of dogs. He began as a military police dog trainer/handler, and even after retirement, he knew he wanted to continue working with man’s best friend. He went on to develop K-9 Advantage, the first franchise in the country featuring dog trainers, and he co-founded PAWSitive Solutions, a highly successful west coast training company.

Soon enough, Canine Trade Group was born. He knew there was a need for consistent, reliable, and effective dog training in every city and in every state throughout the country—even beyond! Canine Trade Group’s reward-based training program culminates nearly thirty-five years of John’s dog training expertise, which he has passed on to each and every one of his trainers. And all those trainers are certified, connected, and easy for clients to find thanks to the creation of Canine Trade Group!

Anxiety in dogs shows itself in multiple ways. For some anxious dogs, the early warning signs of anxiety are what you’d expect: trembling, hiding, whimpering, and tucking their tail between their legs. For others, it can look more like overstimulation or even aggression.

It may be hard to believe that training an anxious dog could be done by using behavioral techniques, but with consistent training and the help of a knowledgeable canine behavior trainer, your dog’s anxiety will improve.

Separation Anxiety
Do you have a dog with separation anxiety? In fact, it may be the reason you’re reading this now. It’s common for dogs to get so attached to their owner that they don’t quite know what to do with themselves when they’re gone. Dogs might bark excessively, destroy property, whine, pant, scratch, mark territory, and generally lose their adorable little minds.

Other Forms of Dog Anxiety
Dogs experience anxiety due to unfamiliar people or social situations. We often get calls about canine aggression that turn out to be cases of canine anxiety. If your dog is afraid or anxious around another dog or human, they may lash out. The same theory applies to dogs who dislike loud or unfamiliar noises.
Many dogs react first.

Why is Loose Leash Walking Important?

These are some common problems that can develop when you take your dog on a walk and they are not properly leash trained.

Anxiety. When walking your dog becomes a tug-of-war, it’s natural for you and your dog to feel anxious about the activity. You may avoid walks entirely, which not only decreases the amount of quality time you get to spend with your dog but also decreases their activity level. This can lead to boredom and, believe it or not, additional anxiety.

Reactivity. Sometimes walking is more than a tug-of-war—sometimes, it’s hanging on for dear life while your dog tries to chase after a small animal, barks at some poor kid out on a bike ride, or launches itself at another dog.

Injury. If you cannot establish confident control during walks, your dog pulling on the leash can injure you both. If you have a large dog, you’re more likely to have your arm wrenched, fall, or be dragged. Dogs can suffer from neck, thyroid, and nerve damage. If your dog shows signs of aggression on the leash, we don’t need to describe the possible consequences.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Mastering the Walk can make miserable dog walks a memory for pet parents.

Mastering the Walk helps dog owners understand just how sensitive their dogs are to their moods and feelings through dog training. That’s why we have this saying: It travels down the leash. If you’re cool and confident, your dog will sense it. If you’re nervous, your dog will sense that, too.

Our leash training protocol will help you set boundaries and communicate effectively until you’ve built enough confidence for your dog to know exactly how to walk politely on the leash.

What is Reward Based Dog Training?

The effective use of rewards makes it easy to establish a strong, loving bond between dog and owner while always setting the dog up for success.
