Santa Returns to the Shark Reef Aquarium from December 17-24!

Santa Claus steers his sleigh from the North Pole to Las Vegas to find out who’s been naughty and nice during the annual Santa in the Shipwreck at Shark Reef Aquarium inside Mandalay Bay!

Santa Claus and Santa Jaws Meet & Greet
Dec 17-24 | 10:00am – 4:00pm
With each paid admission, children 12 and under will receive a complimentary photograph with Santa Claus. Jolly St. Nick will also have a little help this year from a rather large and toothy holiday helper – Santa Jaws. Throughout the day, Santa Jaws will happily “swim” by to join the kiddies for a photo.

Diving Santa Appearance
Dec 17-24 | 4:00pm
Santa will put on a SCUBA suit and plunge into the shipwreck exhibit to wave farewell alongside his underwater friends before going back to his elves and reindeer.

Happy International Sawfish Day!

Sawfish are a wonderous group of rays that have an unmistakable rostrum. These endangered elasmobranchs hunt by raking the sand or sediment to uncover crustaceans and worms. Sawfish swing their rostrum to stun fish before pouncing on top of them and using grinding plates in their mouth to crush their meal.

Did you know?
• All five species of sawfish are classified as endangered and need protection.
• Those aren’t teeth on their nose. In fact, their nose is called a rostrum and the tooth-like structures are modified scales. Sawfish commonly lose these scales and will grow them back over time.
• The green sawfish is the largest species of sawfish reaching lengths of over 20 feet!
• Sawfish pups are born with a protective membrane around their saw. This acts like a sheath to protect the mother.
• Sawfish are vulnerable to entanglements in nets, fishing gear, and other marine debris. Do your part and keep our ocean clean!
