Festus is a distinguished senior dog who, at a sprightly age, still enjoys the simpler pleasures of life—like a good nap and the company of friends both big and small. He's about 10 lbs of charm and has shed some extra weight recently, making him more sprightly than ever!

Having recently undergone a $1,200 dental treatment, Festus is back to enjoying solid kibble with gusto. We are currently accepting donations to help cover the costs of this necessary care, and any support would be greatly appreciated!

Festus is the epitome of a seasoned gentleman who values his independence and quiet time. He is fully potty trained and prefers to spend his days lounging and relaxing in peace. He cherishes his autonomy, and like any respectable old timer, chooses when and by whom he wants to be petted—often showing a preference for children.

However, due to his mature nature and the fact that he has one canine tooth left, Festus would be best suited in a home with older children who understand his need for personal space. He isn't fond of being picked up and will make his preferences clear!

When it comes to other pets, Festus shows a loving affinity for small dogs and has even befriended guinea pigs. He's generally tolerant of larger dogs but prefers those who are mild-mannered, as he isn’t shy about snapping if a larger dog invades his personal space.

Are you looking for your new #1 cuddle bug? Look no further then Remy.
He will happily be your shadow and go with you anywhere you would like!

Still a young guy, at only 2 years old, he is the perfect mix of playful and cuddly, and while he loves to play with plush toys, he is just as happy laying on the couch, resting his chin on you.

Remy was born deaf, so while that's all he knows, it can make him a little more cautious. Besides that he is a healthy young guy, who has lots of love and cuddles to give.

Remy was potty trained in his last home but has had a hard time adjusting in his new foster home, he does NOT mark, but he may need a refresher when he joins his new home until he learns the door he needs to go to and your schedule.

He is great with dogs and cats of all sizes and ages, and currently shares a foster home with dogs his size, and a dog 110 lbs, as well as a cat who he likes to sniff but does not bother.

Remy also loves everyone and even though he starts out a tiny bit shy he becomes fast friends with anyone he meets. Because of his small size we think Remy would do best in a home with children 5+years old. He would be a happy family dog, or just as great in a single person home. What he really just wants is someone to love him as much as he loves.

This month marks two years since Sally has been with us. And she has had only one adoption inquiry.

We really don't get it! She is perfect!
She is completely potty trained. Not a destructive bone in her body. Total cuddle bug. She knows how to sit, down and shake. She LOVES all people, and will soak up any attention you give her. She is great going for walks or being a couch potato.
She does great with other dogs, and recently we even learned she can live with cats!

She is around 10 years old and still has tons of pep in her step and is showing no signs of aging.
She is a bit overweight, weighing 110 lbs, and we're working to get her to a healthy weight.
We think she is a Husky/Lab mix. She looves to talk to you and will greet you when you come home every day.

Why can't this sweet girl find her forever home? Can you help us by sharing this post.

Her adoption fee is waived to an approved home and includes her being up to date on shots, spayed, and microchipped.

Urgent foster needed for Dutch!

This young, 4 year old Shepherd mix is great with other dogs, people, kids, etc. and is losing his home in the next few days.

We're welcoming sweet Dutch back into the rescue.
Dutch was born in January of 2020, and recently his housing situation has changed and he is looking for a foster or his forever home.

This sweet guy needs a semi active home, where he can get some exercise.

He is great with other dogs, kids, and loves everyone. We will be posting him on the website with a better bio in a few days.

Can’t take your dog to work? Booooo, but we get it!

Sally is also perfectly happy waiting for you, she’s not destructive, and can be left out, where she’ll most likely be found snoozing on the couch.

This 11(ish) year Lab/Husky has been waiting for her forever home for almost 18 months and we’re not sure why! She’s great with everyone, adults and children. She’s fully potty trained and not destructive when left alone. And she is happy to a couch potato or go for a long walk! She’s a dream!

Please help share Sally so we can find her forever home! Her adoption fee is waived to a good home. She is also spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Suri is still seeking her forever home.
She is a 2-3 year old fur baby with lots of playful energy and snuggles to give.

She came to us with babies who were all adopted, and now she’s looking for her happy ending.

She is extremely playful and loves to chase your feet under covers, hide in her kitty tunnel and then spend the night snuggling on your chest.

She does good with other cats, and dogs that aren’t too hyper or overly interested in her. And she loves ALL people.

She would make a great addition to your home!

Did you know that if you adopt one of our dogs that has gone through training with Bark K9 Rehabilitation LLC you get support from them to ensure your adoption goes the best that is possibly can!

They also have socialization classes every week that are free to past enrollee's to make sure they keep up their good habits and stay well adjusted!

Joey is a recent graduate and Chandler is currently going through the board and train program, and they are both looking for their forever homes.

They have been with us since August, and this past month they have truly grown so much, and are ready for their next phase of life, FOREVER HOMES!

Happy Fri-Yay!

Can you believe little Zamboni hasn't received ANY adoption interest yet?!
Help us find him a home by sharing this post, so he can spend 4th of July with his forever home!

Zamboni is a lively boy around 4 months old and is a terrier mix. He came to Second Chance after his owner moved and left him with a friend who had a Chihuahua that was not fond of him. Zamboni does love to play with other dogs though, and currently fills his days playing with his foster brothers, particularly obsessed with getting at all the ears and folds of the basset hound. He is quite happy chasing and being chased by his buddies, spinning in circles to catch his tail, gnawing on tennis balls and toys, and even is growing accustomed to pool time.

This sweet boy enjoys a good cuddle, kisses and has been practicing commands like sit, come and leave it. Currently at just under 9lbs Zamboni still needs to be neutered and get his second round of shots but he is ready to find his forever family! We haven’t seen him interact with children but with his playful spirit and patience assume he would do well, as we have seen him do with his foster brothers. As he is playful and full of energy we think he would thrive in a home where he isn’t alone often with the ability to frolic outside.

Joey is doing great in his board and train program!
He is loving his social outings and building his confidence. It is so amazing to see him grow everyday.

We are hoping to move his from board and train, straight into a foster home or foster to adopt home, so please let us know if you are interested, or share so we can find Joey a place to call home.

Joey is around 2 years old, and 15 lbs. He is a small mixed breed, although we have no way of confirming his breeds, we think he might have some Miniature Pincher, Chihuahua and Dachshund in him. He loves to cuddle, play with toys, and follow you around.
He does great with other dogs and wouldn't mind sharing his home with another dog, but also doesn't mind being your one and only.

Joeys new home will need to be willing and able to help continue his training to help him build his confidence and continue to be the best little dog he can be. When he came to us he was very scared of everything which led to him having some less then ideal behaviors. To help him heal we entered him in a board and train program with Bark K9 Rehabilitation LLC , who will continue working with Joey's new home to ensure he is his best self!

Archer is looking for his foster or forever home!

Archer is a loveable, excitable, 9 year old German Shepherd and Border Collie mix.
He would love nothing more than to be a snuggle-in-your-lap, follow-you-to-the-bathroom, velcro companion. His ideal night would be keeping you company on the couch while you pet his head and tell him how cute he is. He loves walks around the neighborhood and having time to sniff and explore.
Archer is potty trained and uses a dog door. He knows basic commands including: sit, down, stay, leave it, and he has basic leash manners. Archer can be nervous in new situations and would do best with someone who can give him time to adjust to changes. Despite being 9, he is still very active and loves to go on walks and outings. He is a great size, at around 40 lbs!

Archer thrives best in a tranquil environment without small children. While he's accustomed to canine companionship, he needs proper introductions to any future dog siblings.

We did it!

Thanks to all of your help and support! We had an amazing time last night and raised $2,000 to go towards medial and training bills for our animals!

We are so excited to announce that Joey will be entering board and train with Bark K9 training!

We don't know what Joey has been through before he came to us but it is very clear he needed a little extra help in becoming the best little guy he can be. He will be in board and train for 1-2 weeks and then we are hoping to have him go into a new foster home, or into a forever home, where they continue to work with his trainer.

Joey is around 2 years old and weighs around 15 lbs. He is a total mixed breed, but we're guessing he has Min Pin, Chihuahua, and some Dachshund in him. He currently shares his home with other dogs, big and small, and does great with all of them. He also loves to play with toys, and will gladly play a few rounds of fetch with you. He would make a great walking or hiking companion for someone.

Joey needs a home with no children, as fast movements and loud noises scare him.

Archer is looking for his foster or forever home!

Archer is a loveable, excitable, 9 year old German Shepherd and Border Collie mix.

Chandler is looking for his forever home. Found back in August, wandering the streets with his brother, we tried for weeks to reunite them with their family, until one day they sadly stopped responding to us and it was clear that Chandler and his brother had been abandoned. Chandler is around 2 years old, and weighs about 14 lbs. we think he’s a Chihuahua/Terrier mix of some sort. With maybe some Spaniel or something in him. Chandler's journey has been one of learning and growth, revealing a dog with spirit and resilience. He thrives under a clear, consistent leadership that guides him with firmness and love. His ideal home would be one without children, where routines and boundaries can be established, helping him feel secure and loved. He is crate trained and we recommend that he be in his crate when there’s a lot of action in the home or guests are coming over. Chandler is good on walks and loves to get out and about. And as you can see in the video, he loves to play fetch and has quite the vertical jump! His adventurous nature might lead him to explore countertops in search of something exciting, a testament to his intelligence and curiosity. Understanding and managing such behaviors will be part of the journey with Chandler, one that requires patience and a consistent approach. I can't believe this little cutie is still looking for his forever home! Cian was born on St. Patricks day with his siblings and saved by good samaritans who brought their mom and whole litter in and made sure they were raised inside and in safety. This cool guy is a polydactly! Meaning he is rocking some extra toes, that make him just that much cuter! He is pretty much the perfect kitten! He is playful, spunky and loves to cuddle! He is great with other cats, and we think he needs another cat or kitten in his future home to keep him content and happy. He is also good with dogs of all sizes....and he is GREAT with kids. And then there were two... Four of Paddy's kittens have been adopted, and their final siblings are ready to go home with you! Cian is so much fun. He LOVES to play, from chasing toy mice to pouncing on feathers, this tiny ball of energy is always on the move, ready for the next adventure. Whether it's zooming around the room or engaging in a friendly game of hide-and-seek, Cian will keep you entertained with their playful antics. Maeve was the only female from the litter. Her gorgeous markings are so unique. She is so sweet, and more docile then her spunky brother. She likes to observe before she partakes in any shenanigan's, but once she's comfortable she'll get in the mix and play and cuddle. Kitten adoption fee's are $150, and include them being up to date on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, and spayed/neutered. Both of these kittens require another cat in the home, because they are very social and need a kitty companion. Don't have another cat? Consider adopting this adorable duo together. Kittens do great when getting adopted in a pairs and will keep you entertained for hours. We take off $50 on kitten pair adoptions because we love to keep them together.

Olivia Dogrigo is looking for her Christmas miracle. This sweet girl was rescued from our city shelter this month. She is 40 lbs, of wirey, Terrier fun. She loves to play, squeaky toys and fetch are are her favorite activities. She has been in boarding since we pulled her because unfortunately we've discovered that she is dog reactive. We are now in search of her forever home, or foster home for her. Right now we are reccomending no other animals, and no small chilldren, although this very much may change as we get to know her better and she becomes more comfortable. Please help share sweet and spunky Olivia so we can find her a nice home for 2023.

PSA Please keep your dogs coats brushed out! We recently took in Dude after his owners could no longer care for him. We knew he needed a grooming but when he got there we realized how matted he was. This causes pain and irritation to the dogs skin, and is miserable until they can get shaved. Please don’t let your dog get like this. And if you can’t deal with the upkeep of grooming, a short haired dog is a perfect option for you! Grooming can be expensive so dogs with a coat that need to be up kept are not a great option for everyone. We’ve got a lot of cuties for adoption that are SUPER low maintenance, but Dude is not one of them. Dude is one happy guy now!
