The mixing of Thoroughbred and Arabian blood has produced a number of outstanding sport horses for Olympic disciplines, including dressage. In recent years, French Anglo-Arabs such as this one have achieved great success at the highest level of eventing, withstanding competition from the best Thoroughbreds and Warmbloods.

The head of an Anglo-Arab horse is closer to a thoroughbred riding horse than to an Arabian. It lacks the concave profile of the Arabian horse. The general conformation is noticeably closer to the Thoroughbred than to the Arabian breed, although many Anglo-Arabs are more robustly built than the average Thoroughbred.

Their three daughters, Delphine, Clovisa and Danae, became the founders of the first French sports horse breed

As a result of such varied permutations, the amount of Arab blood can vary greatly. The size and appearance of the horse may vary accordingly. The largest offspring are often obtained from Arabian stallions and purebred mares, and the best specimens inherit the endurance and unpretentiousness of Arabs, the speed and intelligence of purebred horses, without retaining the hot temperament of the latter.

More massive than the purebred Arabian, the Anglo-Arab horse breed was developed by mixing Arabian blood with purebred horse breeds. An Anglo-Arab can be obtained by first crossing an English stallion with an Arabian mare or vice versa. Such a horse can also be born from a thoroughbred and an Anglo-Arab, an Arab and an Anglo-Arab, or from two Anglo-Arabs.
