“Diva” is an 11yo quarter horse mare that was presented for surgery to remove a sinus mass that was diagnosed with radiographs by the referring veterinarian. The mass had distorted the maxillary sinus and invaded the nasal cavity. Biopsies from the referring veterinarian revealed granulation tissue and bony remodeling but no indication of underlying disease.
When presented for surgery, the mare had developed a soft swelling under her left eye. She had moderate to severe distortion of the maxillary sinus and no air flow through her left nostril.
A maxillary sinus flap was created under general anesthesia. The sinus mass and lining were removed. The sinus was packed with gauze to help with bleeding. The bone flap was then repositioned and sutured closed.
Diva is now back at home and recovering well. Thank you for the referral and for hauling her in and trusting us with your four-legged friend!

This patient presented on emergency for colic symptoms with relief veterinarian, Dr. Rodriguez. He showed signs of improvement with fluid therapy, but continued being mildly uncomfortable. The subsequent re**al exam on Monday revealed an enterolith.
An enterolith is a build up of minerals, that forms in the gastrointestinal tract. Enteroliths can form around a small foreign object such as a seed, pebble, or piece of twine.
Once discovered, the owners opted to have surgery performed to remove the stone. An enterotomy was performed and the stone was removed without complications. The patient has recovered well and has returned home.

Never forget that slow progress is still progress👌🏼
Gunner presented on emergency on October 25th, 2023 with a right front carpal laceration. Dr. Rodriguez, along with interns Dr. Danessa Garcia and Dr. Mathilde Fourtnier, took on the case. After doing an assessment of the joint integrity, they discovered that the laceration communicated with both the radiocarpal as well as the intercarpal joint. At this time, a joint lavage was performed, followed by a regional limb perfusion in hopes of clearing out any remaining bacteria. The wound was then prepped, debrided, and sutured closed with drains placed.
He remained hospitalized the following week to continue with IV antibiotics, regional limb perfusions, and bandage changes. Once stable, he went home to rehab and get regular bandage changes for the next couple of months.
On his way in for one of his final recheck exams, he managed to scrape the skin off a portion of the weakened area, prolonging his recovery.
After many recheck exams, lots of bandaging, and stealing the hearts of many of the staff members, his knee is healed and he left for training last week! We wish you the best of luck, Gunner!

Did you know we offer embryo transfers (ET)?🔬
An embryo transfer is when an embryo is recovered from the uterus of one mare in a minimally invasive and generally well-tolerated procedure, and implanted into the uterus of a recipient mare, either immediately or after a vitrification (freezing) process. Then the recipient mare will carry the pregnancy to full-term.
Good candidates for ET may include valuable mares that are unable to carry a foal safely to full-term themselves or some sub-fertile mares with specific problems, such as cervical injuries.
An ET takes place 6-8 days after the donor mare has ovulated. The uterus is flushed with a sterile solution that is then filtered and examined for the presence of the embryo. The embryo is then transferred into the recipient mare who will carry the foal.
To see if your mare is a good candidate for an ET, call today to schedule a consultation!🐴

We would like to welcome our new veterinary technician. Say hello to Kaitlyn Quirk!
Kaitlyn grew up in Golden, CO where she has always been a thrill-seeking, outdoor enthusiast that loves to hike, workout, fish, paddleboard, ski, hunt, and any other adventure she can think of! She states that she has “always had a passion for animals, and I think I suckered my mom into getting my brothers and I almost every domestic animal you can think of.” Kaitlyn went to Veterinary Technician school in Colorado and enjoyed her career there at an equine clinic in Littleton, CO for 6 years where her passion for all things internal medicine grew. She worked through the rigorous application process and passed her boards examination to obtain her equine internal medicine specialty. She has never owned a horse, but has always had a love for them from a young age and knew that she would make a career out of it. Kaitlyn moved to southern Utah in October of 2023 to be with her long-distance boyfriend and now his job and education has brought them to the Las Vegas area where they are excited for new opportunities!
We are so excited to have you on the team!🐴

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Texas Panhandle.

Thanks to our generous supporters, and fellow veterinarians, we are in the process of sending veterinary supplies to some of the communities that have been effected by the Smokehouse Creek Fires. We are awaiting the green light from the first responders who's first priority is the humanitarian disaster at hand. But we will be right behind those aid-workers with veterinary supplies to help the livestock victims and to support the veterinarians effected, as they begin to care for their communities.

We greatly appreciate any monetary donations you can make and will continue to provide assistance over the coming weeks.

We would like to introduce Emma Walter’s as another one of our 2024 Veterinary Associate Rotating Interns!
Emma Walters was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She recently completed her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at the University of Vermont. During her time in Vermont, she spent a lot of time with the dairy herd of Holstein cows and at the horse barn adjacent to campus. At home, Emma spent time at a small animal clinic helping out cats and dogs. She hopes to attend vet school in the upcoming years.
Outside of school and work, she loves spending time with friends, thrifting, and reading. Emma is very eager to learn more about the clinical aspect of horse care and to further her large animal experience.
We are so excited to welcome her to the team and are looking forward to being a part of her educational journey!
