Dog owners have less risk of dementia! Sorry cat lovers- having a cat was found not to give the same benefit.

People with dogs tend to get into the habit of physical activity and forming social connections, which reduces their dementia risk.

Chocolate can contain high amounts of fat and caffeine-like stimulants known as methylxanthines. If ingested in significant amounts, chocolate can potentially produce clinical effects in dogs ranging from vomiting and diarrhea to panting, excessive thirst and urination, hyperactivity, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures and even death in severe cases.
Typically, the darker the chocolate, the higher the potential for clinical problems from methylxanthine poisoning. White chocolate has the lowest methylxanthine content, while baking chocolate contains the highest.

My senior dog teaches me to appreciate the simple things in life that dogs just understand. Walking with him at the park can be a sniff fest- he smells, wanders, and leisurely takes in the park in his own time. Slow down, enjoy the moment and just be! Happy 12th Birthday to my sweet, serious old fella--my Boss Man!

Some factoids in honor of Groundhog day!

Some factoids in honor of Groundhog day!

In lieu of Groundhog day, here are some neat facts about our furry burrowing neighbors ❤

The groundhog, also known as a woodchuck, or as my favorite name for them ~ the whistlepig 🙂 ...... is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots.

A groundhog will whistle when it is alarmed and also in the spring when they begin courting.

Groundhogs are among the few animals that are true hibernators. Their body temperature can drop from about 99 degrees to as low as 37, their heart rate slows from about 80 beats per minute to 5, and their breathing slows from around 16 breaths per minute to as few as 2.

Woodchucks grow upper and lower incisors that grow about a sixteenth of an inch each week.

And as much as we would like to rely on them for weather predictions the fact is the males emerge from dens in early February to wander around their 2- to 3-acre territories in search of burrows belonging to females, which the males will enter and where they may spend the night......in hopes to mate with in March. 😉

Formal puppy training is a must for every new pup in a home. Honestly, it trains the humans more than the dogs! Each of my dogs has required different training style and tools. My lil' wagger, Dutton, just graduated his first class.

I love my Kinderpuppy Class… but it is so difficult to get a perfect attendance over the Holidays! These two beautiful ladies with their fun pups did it!! Earned diplomas in great style❤️
