🎉 We are thrilled to officially announce Misfit Ranch Rescue and Sanctuary, a passion project that has been in development for years. We are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of homeless, abused, neglected and misunderstood dogs in need of a better tomorrow. We have been rescuing, treating, training and rehoming dogs for years but our newly formed nonprofit, @ranchofmisfits will allow us the ability to expand and assist more dogs in need while helping to relieve the strain felt by the overcrowding of local shelters.
Misfit Ranch rescues with a purpose to save those whose time is running out at public shelters and those in danger of being euthanized due to treatable medical needs or trainable behavioral issue. Often, medical recovery requires a calm and loving environment that cannot be provided in an overcrowded, public setting and behavioral issues present out of fear, which volunteers who have not been educated in training techniques or breed behavior are not properly prepared to handle.

Did you know food allergies and sensitivities can cause behavioral issues in dogs? Chronic pain and daily discomfort are enough to make anyone cranky. There are many reasons why a dog may have behavioral issues and most people don’t know that food allergies and sensitivities are one of them. The dog’s behavior is telling us something is wrong. It’s our job to figure out what the problem is.
As a clinical pet nutritionist, I work with a lab that is able to detect a dog’s reactivity to foods, medication and the environment that is not always detected in the blood tests run by veterinarians when they check for basic allergies. This is something we incorporate into the care of dogs with behavioral issues and use the information to suggest and transition the dog to a food better suited for their nutritional needs while we work through training. This method has been very successful in creating a calmer, healthier, happier and more focused dog.
Sadie came to us from Florida for board and train with reactivity towards humans who were not her own. A change in food to eliminate all sensitivities calmed her system down enough to let her focus and trust us as her handler. She’s since bonded with us all, is in love with her new food and we’re very proud of the progress she has made. She’s excited for public outings now and while she’s not a fan of everyone she comes across, she can coexist.
We don’t like being touched by strangers and are not fans of everyone we meet so it’s unrealistic to expect our dogs to. However, we should expect them to remain calm while coming across people and other dogs. They should be able to sit calmly at our side while we have conversations with others.
We’re grateful to have been able to help Miss Sadie and that her humans trusted us enough to drive her to us. While she will always own a pair of sassy pants (she is a Malinois after all), she is a very sweet girl with a lot of love to give. She’s almost ready to go home a
