A standing ovation, some tears of joy, and many hugs for our dear friend, Biscuit. Biscuit came into our emergency department several weeks ago for a three-day history of pelvic limb weakness, progressing to the inability to stand or walk in the hind end. Biscuit was assessed by our neurology team, where he underwent an MRI of the spine and was diagnosed with discospondylitis, a vertebral column infection. Biscuit was admitted to the hospital for intravenous fluids and antibiotics. During Biscuit's hospitalization, our surgery service performed an emergency abdominal surgery for liver lobectomy, splenectomy, and bladder repair. Our critical care team jumped into action, managing Biscuit's post-operative care. Nine days later, through the collaboration of multiple departments, Biscuit was successfully discharged from the hospital. We are so thankful for our team, their expert and compassionate care, and Biscuit's owners for supporting him along the way. Biscuit will return for physical therapy with our rehabilitation team in January, and we cannot wait to see him again!
Loki is a patient of our Neurology and Rehabilitation team and recently suffered from an acute spinal cord injury (ASCI) called acute noncompressive nucleus pulposus extrusion (ANNPE). This type of disc herniation causes a spinal cord contusion (bruising) but does not cause spinal cord compression. Therefore, decompressive spinal surgery is not necessary, and treatment is time, patience, and rehabilitation. Watch this heartwarming video of Lokiβs journey to recovery. Thank you to Gina and William for sharing this video! Weβre so proud of Loki!
Goodbye Luigi
A heartfelt goodbye for sweet Luigi today! We are going to miss him, but are even happier he's healed and going home with his family.
For those just tuning in, Luigi has been hospitalized with us for a month after an unfortunate incident with another dog. Our team has been caring for him 24/7 and it's clear he will always hold a special place in our hearts. <3

2019 Bunny Club
Our friends from Rehab certainly make cute bunnies! Happy Easter!
Rosie!
We love receiving follow up videos such as this one of Rosie, a 9-month-old lab, who was hit by a car back in the fall. She came through our emergency service and was treated overnight until she had a consult with one of our surgeons, Dr. Palamara. Rosie sustained multiple pelvic fractures and left femoral head fracture. She received minimally-invasive surgical repair of her pelvis and femur fractures. Less-invasive surgery allows for a quicker recovery, less pain, and reduced complications. We are so happy to see Rosie running and having fun in the yard!
Lexi playing fetch
Thank you Richard for sending in this wonderful video of Lexi! Just under a year ago, Lexi came into our Emergency Department after being hit by a tractor-trailer truck. She was unable to walk, having sustained a dislocated hip on one side and a femur fracture on the other. Lexi went into surgery with Dr. Bush shortly after her admittance for treatment of her orthopedic injuries. After much rest and recovery, Lexi is happily playing in the backyard with her friend Champ!
