Many animals go missing over the holidays for very simple, preventable reasons; they may not be used to a crate so are traveling without being securely confined, families may not have an older child or specific person assigned to walk the dog at rest stops, or people assume because the dog is voice trained at home that it will work out of town too. All these potential scenarios can lead to an escaped animal while away from home, which can be a very difficult situation.
Being out of their normal environment can cause even the best trained animal to become confused or spooked, so don't take chances! Identification tags, secure collar or better yet, a harness, and a crate or secure restraint that buckles into a seat belt are all important considerations before traveling. Also check that your pet's microchip info is up to date, and have a good picture of them just in case.

Prevention is your best defense against the unexpected! Make sure the holiday season stays happy and safe for the entire family.
