Of course, the day we chose for our inspection turned out to be the first 20-degree day of the year! 🥶 Fortunately, we have good horses and everybody was absolutely fantastic anyway!

Woltare (Widmark x Royal Princess/Rotspon), bred by Meg Williams and owned by Janet Higgins, put down the top traditional performance test with an overall 7 in the jump chute, 7.5 in gait scores, and 8.5 in rideability. We are thrilled to have this little superstar here with us - congratulations! Woltare becomes a Premium Mare Candidate.

Solar Flair RR (Negro x Hypatia FFF/Cunningham), bred by Laurie Gamble and recently purchased by Marilyn Coleman, was the top non-Hanoverian mare and laid down the top riding-only performance test! She earned scores of 8 for rideability, walk, and canter for a total score of 7.92 - this is a really super young mare; it has been a joy to have her in our program the past couple years and we can't wait to see what's next for her! Solar Flair is now a Premium Mare Candidate.

Sirena HTF (Sezuan x Qadence HTF/Qredit Hilltop), bred by Hilltop Farm and owned by Meg Williams, was our top futurity. Sirena has an incredibly bright future - we just adore her! She had no score below a 7.5 and earned an 8 for her walk and her general impression. We cannot get enough of this filly and are proud to have her!

DuLayla (Dubarry x Wroyal Wisdom/Widmark), bred by Meg Williams and owned by Mary Anne Medlock, was the top Hanoverian mare. Layla earned lovely scores under saddle, including scores of 8 for her rideability and her walk, for a total of 7.75. She has been a true pleasure to develop and we are thrilled to be able to continue the journey! Layla is now a Premium Mare Candidate.

Bella Crusadore (Baron x Light My Fire/Lauries Crusador), bred by Kerstin Aronis and owned by Meg Williams, was the star of the show in our book! Bella is in foal for a March baby, and she was generous enough to go back under saddle for a few weeks to do her performance test. We love, love, love this mare and she has been such a joy and a pleasure to ride! She earned scores of 8 for her rideability, walk, and canter, for a total of 7.8, and we know that if she weren't heavy in foal they'd have been even higher! We could not be prouder of this truly special horse, and are incredibly grateful to have her in our breeding program. Because she has already produced foals (including this year's Gold Medal Foal), Bella becomes a Hanoverian Premium Mare.

A huge thanks, of course, goes to all the connections for these superb young horses, and to everyone who makes the ship run! It takes a village, and ours is pretty excellent. Perhaps the biggest thanks, of course, goes to Sandy Hunt for braving the weather to come judge for us! We appreciate you!

We are proud to present on behalf of a client - Solara (by Gaudi SSF), a flashy three-year-old with loads of a potential! This is a very sweet young mare who will make a good prospect for an amateur to develop. She is lightly backed, somewhat green in canter but no funny business, starting to work with other horses in the ring. It has been a pleasure to start this gal and we can't wait to see what's next for her! PM for more info!

We are proud to present on behalf of a client - Toulouse (Glamourdale x Romancero H)!

This is a super little 2.5 year old filly with a great deal of potential - if that pedigree doesn't speak for itself! She is easy to have around and incredibly personable. Toulouse is not yet backed, but she wears a saddle and bridle and is ready to start your way! 🥕 to increase with training, so PM for more info today!

"While I am as much of a training nerd as the next dressage person, I dislike getting stuck in the sandbox too many days in a row. And while alternating days in the field doing strengthening exercises or cavalletti is great for adding variety to your routine, sometimes there’s no substitute for a relaxing day on the trail."

It's that time of year! You know we love few things more than a good trail ride, so we also love to share some tips to set you and your horse up for success if they're a little too used to the arena. Get out there and enjoy!

Getting your horse out of the dressage arena and into nature provides many benefits to his training and health. Stephany Fish Crossman shares her favorite movements for the trail to instill confidence in her dressage partners.

We asked this question a while back, but a lot has changed in the past year, so we're asking again!

When horse shopping, where are you most likely to hunt? What websites do you find the most helpful/user-friendly/populated with nice horses? Do you look mostly on social media? We would love to hear from other professionals as well - we know you don't have time to comb through ISO ads to find a good match for your horse, so how are you maximizing visibility?

We have been having great luck finding homes for our sales horses, but are always looking to improve; we also think this will be a valuable thread for everyone from other professionals to folks looking for the best place to horse hunt, so please drop your favorites in the comments!

What's one more? No, seriously - that's his name.

What's Won More (Widmark x Gabriela D'Azur/Puerto D'Azur) is available from a client! "Cash" is a real sweetheart, first to greet you in the field. With the Widmark temperament and a jumper damline, this should be a very neat little riding horse with some talent over fences! He is a 2024 model, extremely reasonable 🥕.

PM for more info!

Huge thanks to Majestic Farm for having me as a judge for the schooling show today! The crew here never fails to put on an organized and well-run show, which of course makes it a pleasure, although the real joy was the riders! From a Grand Prix test to thirteen Western dressage horses to a costume class, we had a really fun variety. It's truly a blessing to have such an excellent facility near us, and especially to see that the show grew enough to need a second judge! Thanks again for the opportunity - I can't wait to do it again!

Breeding, Raising, Training, and Competing Outstanding Hanoverians

Located on two hundred rolling acres in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, the farm is dedicated to breeding and training Hanoverian sport horses for the dressage arena.

Special attention is given to selecting horses for movement and conformation with particular emphasis on rideability and temperament. Matching the best European bloodlines to select American bloodstock, the farms’ breeding program seeks to produce the next generation of sport horses to appeal to the amateur and professional competitor alike.

The training philosophy of the farm is simple: provide a solid foundation for the young horse in order to prepare them for dressage competition into the upper levels. Every care is taken to correctly start the young horse under saddle in order to provide the best experience for them as well as for their riders. They enjoy varied training including extensive hacking on the farm’s beautiful hills and free jumping, all of which imparts in them willingness and confidence. Though we specialize in youngsters, horses and riders of all levels benefit from the classical dressage and cross-training opportunities available here. Meg’s teaching gets nothing but rave reviews, and she has developed several horses from first rides to Grand Prix.

Owner/Trainer Meg Williams has decades of experience starting young horses, and training them along. She is also a USDF Gold Medalist. Oakwood Farms is a leading American Hanoverian breeding farm, standing the imported Elite Hanoverian stallion Widmark. Imported stallion Fabregas arrives at the farm this spring as well and will stand stud here, in addition to bringing Meg back to the show ring. The new year holds many opportunities and exciting possibilities for all of our horses and riders!
