Because our current part-time girl (who we love very much!) will soon be leaving us to have her baby, we are officially looking for barn help 2 days per week. Responsibilities will include doing stalls in the morning (the number varies, but they are generally not difficult as our horses spend a lot of time outside), feeding, turning horses in and out, tacking, and some cleaning/decobwebbing/projects as needed. We have plenty of horses of all ages and life stages, from broodmares and foals to stallions to our old retired gals - it's a busy barn, but we have an efficient system!

Horse handling experience is appreciated but not required! We are happy to teach anyone who wants to learn. Reliable transportation, the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, and a self-starting, go-getting attitude are absolute necessities. Pay is hourly and we can be flexible on which days you work.

Please call/text Meg at 513-673-3950 or email [email protected] for more information!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's hard not to wax too poetic about everything that we're grateful for today. It's a beautiful, wonderful life with horses we lead; it's an honor, a challenge, and a joy. And today we just have to say that we're thankful for all of you - everyone who makes it possible.

Thank you to our dedicated students, who show up even when it's hard and push themselves constantly to get better for their horses.

Thank you to the breeders and owners who trust us with their youngsters and give us the chance to give them a great start in life.

Thank you to the buyers who see the value in a well-bred foal or a well-started young horse, and who come to us to find their perfect equine match.

Thank you to our lovely boarders and friends, who lend a hand on a cold day, bring us candy at Halloween, make spreadsheets, throw parties, and make memories.

Thank you to our amazing horse care team, from our sensational vets to our brilliant farriers to dedicated saddle fitters. Without you, none of our wonderful athletes could flourish the way they do!

It takes a village to keep these lights on, and we couldn't do without a single one of you. So thank you from Team Oakwood, and may the holiday season and the next year bring us all even more joy.

We could not let this week go by without giving thanks for the reason we do what we do - our exceptional, beautiful, kindhearted horses. Sometimes it seems like they do nothing but give, even when their humans don't deserve it. Not one of us deserves them! β€œThe essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit, and freedom.”(Sharon Ralls Lemon) Without our horses, we would be less, in so many ways. πŸ’•

What else are we grateful for this week?

We're grateful that we are in the horse business! For challenges to overcome, for good hard work that strengthens body and mind, for days spent outdoors (don't ask us to stand by that in January!), for a life pursuing the sport we love and seeking to improve the lives of our horses and our humans. It's an addiction, and we wouldn't have it any other way!

It's Thanksgiving week, and we're celebrating gratefulness. No matter the busyness, no matter the weather, no matter how frustrated and tired we may get, at the end of the day, we have so much to be thankful for!

We are grateful for our rolling fields and open space, something that becomes more and more of rarity as time goes by. We get to spend our days surrounded by beauty, and we have the chance to feel the wind and freedom of a gallop with a trusted horse. No feeling comes close to that joy and exhilaration!

It's a lovely world, and we are glad to be alive in it. πŸ’•

Breeding, Raising, Training, and Competing Outstanding Hanoverians

Located on two hundred rolling acres in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, the farm is dedicated to breeding and training Hanoverian sport horses for the dressage arena.

Special attention is given to selecting horses for movement and conformation with particular emphasis on rideability and temperament. Matching the best European bloodlines to select American bloodstock, the farms’ breeding program seeks to produce the next generation of sport horses to appeal to the amateur and professional competitor alike.

The training philosophy of the farm is simple: provide a solid foundation for the young horse in order to prepare them for dressage competition into the upper levels. Every care is taken to correctly start the young horse under saddle in order to provide the best experience for them as well as for their riders. They enjoy varied training including extensive hacking on the farm’s beautiful hills and free jumping, all of which imparts in them willingness and confidence. Though we specialize in youngsters, horses and riders of all levels benefit from the classical dressage and cross-training opportunities available here. Meg’s teaching gets nothing but rave reviews, and she has developed several horses from first rides to Grand Prix.

Owner/Trainer Meg Williams has decades of experience starting young horses, and training them along. She is also a USDF Gold Medalist. Oakwood Farms is a leading American Hanoverian breeding farm, standing the imported Elite Hanoverian stallion Widmark. Imported stallion Fabregas arrives at the farm this spring as well and will stand stud here, in addition to bringing Meg back to the show ring. The new year holds many opportunities and exciting possibilities for all of our horses and riders!
