📉 Adoptions Are Slowing, But Intakes Are Rising 📈
Right now at Lawton Animal Welfare, we’re facing a serious challenge. Adoptions have slowed down, but the number of animals entering our shelter continues to grow—and we are out of space.
🐾 We currently have 212 cats and dogs:
🔸 83 kittens
🔸 40 cats
🔸 31 dogs
🔸 58 puppies
📍 All in a facility with just 60 dog kennels and 64 cat kennels.
We need our community’s help now more than ever.
💉 Spay & Neuter Your Pets
One of the most effective ways to reduce shelter overcrowding is to prevent unwanted litters. Spaying and neutering protects your pet’s health and helps control pet overpopulation.

🕵️♀️ Come Look for Your Lost Pets
If your pet is missing, please come to the shelter in person as soon as possible. We take in new animals every day, and no one knows your pet like you do. Our strays are seldom claimed by pet owners. Less than 10% of our intake annually-and most of those claims are dogs. Only 15 cats have been claimed by pet owners in the last year.
💬 Be Honest When Surrendering Pets
When animals are surrendered as “strays,” we are legally required to hold them for several days before they can be placed for adoption—taking up critical kennel space.
However, if pet owners are honest and let us know the animal belongs to them, we can have the owner sign a waiver for the hold and begin the adoption process much sooner-sometimes even placing the animal up for adoption the same day. We understand that life happens—and we’re here to help. We can work with you on surrender fees and schedule appointments that fit your situation.
⚠️ Honesty helps the animals, eases overcrowding, and allows us to save more lives.
Remember~ we’re here to help you. We can help through payment flexibility, appointments, and understanding. Just talk to us. 💙
Thank you for being part of the solution. Together, we can protect pets, reunite families, and give more animals a second chance.
