A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR) is a foster-based rescue focused on providing cats and dogs loving temporary homes while awaiting their forever homes. ANBAR primarily focuses in the Weber/Davis County region, but we also accept transfers from throughout northern Utah and surrounding states. Our goal is to reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates and improve animal welfare through community buildi

ng and public education on the mutual benefits of spay/neutering your animals and responsible pet ownership. Through our generous donors and amazing fosters, ANBAR is able to rescue severe medical cases and provide the assistance necessary for their survival. We believe that euthanasia should only be used as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering. ANBAR’s ultimate mission is to give every rescue a new beginning.

Another URGENT case... we need a family (or a foster) by June 30th! That's only one week from today! 😥

Miss Daisy just celebrated her 5th birthday! 🎉 We would love nothing more than to grant her wish by finding a family that will love her forever and ever! 😻

Daisy is independent most of the time but one of her most endearing aspects is when she approaches you out of the blue to jump on your lap and then cuddle/sleep. 💤 She 👀 at you first to tell you she wants to or sometimes paws 🐾 you. If you move too much or she ends up in an uncomfortable position, she'll hop off and walk away.

She LOVES sleeping - she probably does it 90% of the time. She curls up into a ball and lets us tuck her in with a blanket. 🛏🌛

There is a slight snoring sound we hear whether she's awake or asleep. Could just be asthma but no real concern. Other than that, she sometimes spazzes out and yells at her tail. 😹

The absolute cutest thing is she'll proudly bring us trash like dirty napkins from outside. 🏆 She'll meow so loudly with trash in her mouth while she trots up our stairs. She must think that's what we eat or something. 💞

This sweet girl must have been abandoned because when originally found, she was skin and bones! 🙀 She looks great now and has a clean bill of health. When the vet held her, she seemed comfortable. Daisy is surprisingly calm when loaded into a pet carrier or when taken to the vet. Just some soft anxious meows during the drive. 🚘

Oh yeah, and she's potty trained in the sense that she'll yell at our🚪 for us to let her out and do her business. She's a smart girl so she'll do great with a litter box as well. She really is a well-behaved, good girl!

We keep reminding people that full-grown cats are the BEST because they already know the rules! 🤗😻

She does not love being picked up. Every time we try, she voices that she does not like it. She can be moody... being pet has to be on her terms or she may nip. Other times she really likes her head and back scratched. So it truly just depends on how she's feeling at the time but you'll know! 😼

Daisy would love a family that let's her outside 🌞 on occasion. As you can imagine, being in rescue we hear all the horror stories but know she had to fend for herself for a long time. Perhaps her new family will harness train or build a catio where she can feel the fresh breeze and watch the 🐦 fly by!

This beautiful black and white 🐈‍⬛️ is perfect for someone who has a busy lifestyle but still wants a furbaby who will love on them when they get home!

We aren't sure how she does with other pets 🐕🐾 since her finders don't have any! However, we've found MOST animals will eventually acclimate given time and patience! I'm sure Miss Daisy would just be grateful to have a permanent 🏡 and family to call her own!

🤗 Update!!!
D***Y FOUND A FAMILY!!! Adoption will take place in less than 24 hours. 💕

😬 URGENT:
D***y needs a family (or a foster by Tuesday night... this gives us 2.5 days).

At just 3 years old, sweet D***y has found himself homeless (well, without a family to call his own).

You see, he was adopted as a small kitten, but that family had a baby and could no longer keep D***y.

So, we took him in with the hopes of finding his furever. His current foster family lives him dearly, but they are making an unexpected, out of state move and cannot take him.

Now we must band together and find him a family that will truly consider him one of their own so that he is not left behind for a third time.

It is important that you know, D***y has no behavioral issues. He is an exceptionally good boy who knows where his litter box is, doesn't scratch at furniture, or climb on the counter.

This handsome boy doesn't seem to mind dogs and acclimates well to other cats!

D***y loves humans and affection. You should have seen how cute he was at a chaotic adoption event where a foster was holding him like an infant and he was looking into her eyes like, "Just love me!"

We've said it before, and will say it over and over again... there is something about black cats and the loyalty they have for their humans.

Far too many people bypass a black cat in favor of a siamese, calico, or young kitten and it just blows our mind because they don't realize what they are missing out on. Especially this sweet boy who is so cool of personality!

🐾 You already have one or three? Don't be silly!!! Pairs are the way to go... make it an even number, for goodness sake! 🐾

Soooo extra cute!!!

Ezra is a little gentleman. He is a well-behaved, handsome, silky, black 4-month-old kitten who is perfectly chill and would be a wonderful addition to your family. 🐈‍⬛️💕

Ezra loves to run and play chase and then settle in for a cuddle. He loves his naps... especially on a soft blanket. 💤

This mini black panther is a social boy and 🩷 LOVES 🩷people and other cats! He came from a litter of the sweetest 😽😸🐱 and is the BEST behaved of even all those sweet cats.

Ezra really loves his feline friends and would enjoy a house with other cats. 😻💞

He has been waiting patiently to find his forever family, and now that he's been vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and neutered... we would love for you to meet him! 🤗

His foster family is all too happy to invite you into their 🏡 so you can see him in his own environment, or if you prefer, he will be at Petco this Saturday between 12-4pm (providing he doesn't get adopted before then)! 🤞

I will say that we 👀 a lot of kittens come through our rescue and this sweet boy is a favorite because not only is he darling, but his personality is just as cute!

He's been to one event thus far, and you should have seen him reaching both paws 🐾 through the crate to try to coax people into paying attention to him. 🤭

Alas, he got overlooked because of the siamese sitting beside him. 🤨 So, let's make his day and start the adoption process - it's easier than you think! 📝

Update on the eye ulcer kittens: So far so good! They have another checkup at the end of the week, but they are getting plenty of TLC from their foster. We are keeping an extra close eye on the little orange one. They seem to be responding well to meds, but it's too soon to tell how much their eyes will heal. We can't thank the community enough for the donations up until this point, it makes all the difference!

💙💙💙 DONATIONS NEEDED! 💙💙💙

These four kittens were found on death's door, with a fifth having sadly passed away. Luckily we got to them in the nick of time, but all four have ulcerated eyes from infection! We hope that we’ll be able to save their eyes using blood serum eye drops. Even with treatment, it's possible that some of their eyes may rupture and require enucleation surgery… which is not cheap.

This year has been financially difficult for many, ANBAR included. We are working on getting more grants and long-term funding, but we really need a hand in the short term. We know this is a big ask, but any donation helps! These little guys are only five weeks old and have already been through so much. We plan to give them the best shot we can, but we ourselves are in dire need of medical funds.

It's only by the community's support that we are able to save these guys and others like them. Again, every donation helps, even as little as $5! And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this post. You never know if the next person who sees it can!

🐾 Want to make it the BEST Father's Day ever??? 🐶👨😽

Well, go to Petco in Layton tomorrow from 12-4pm and meet all the furbabies we have up for adoption! 💕

This week, 4yr old Roxy 🦴 (man's - scratch that, human's best friend) along with kittens, teens, and adults are all looking for their furever family! 🏡

Remember, all of our pets have been dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped and spayed, or neutered... so all they need is for you to fall in love with them and take them home with you!!! 🥰

One more thing... we understand you may not have time for a Father's Day BBQ AND getting out to see us tomorrow, soooo if you'd rather do a home visit, just let us know!

Our goal is to get these babies where they belong... with you!

In the soft glow of the moon, I, Duchess, was led by a twinkling firefly to a grand palace with walls of woven willow and a carpet of fresh moss. This was no ordinary palace, it was a sanctuary, a shelter. My heart fluttered, knowing I was safe.

I am a lady of quiet strength, independent yet mellow, a touch shy. My solitude is not a sign of sadness, but a testament to my resilience.

I am not in desperate need of a home, but I am willing to share my life with someone who respects my independence. I may not be the first to greet you, but give me time and patience, and I will be a loyal companion.

Adoption opportunity!

This is one of the sweetest stories ever!!!

Bean & Poppy are best friends! So much so... that when they delivered their first litter just days apart, they helped raise one another's babies!

Sure, these mommas supported each other through a rough patch but now that they have done their job, we think they'd be just fine on their own - if you are looking to adopt a single cat. Of course, we will always encourage adopting in pairs because everyone needs a bestie!

Between Bean & Poppy, they have five sweet kittens, and the whole lot are ready to settle into a family they can claim as their own.

Now, let me tell you about each of them! Such fun and distinct little personalities!!!

🌱 Bean: The friendliest cat you will ever meet. Loves to cuddle and be pet and is also very vocal when she needs something. Will always come out to see you when you come home. She is amazing with kids and is super gentle. (i assume she would get along great with other cats and dogs it's just hard to tell bc she is protective of her babies rn).

🌸 Poppy: She feels like a cloud, she is the softest cat ever. She loves to cuddle and will constantly rub up against you or sit in your lap. She doesn't love to be picked up but doesn't make a huge fuss if you do. Also great with kids and extremely gentle. Would be great with another cat from this group but I don't think she would be super good with other cats and dogs unless you're willing to work with her.

🥔 Potato chip: The cutest little dude with energy like a fire cracker. He is extremely playful and always tries to get your attention by pouncing on your feet when you walk by. Is cuddly when he's tired but for the most part he just loves to play. Is great with kids and even though he loves to play he doesn't scratch or hurt you. Would thrive with a friend to play with and at the very least needs a very energetic home.

🤍 Marshmallow: Looks like a cloud and oh boy does he feel like one. This little guy is so cuddly and purrs whenever you give him attention: He has long hair with the prettiest blue eyes. Is amazing with kids because of how snuggly he is and would do great with other cats and dogs.

🥛 Milkshake: They love people and love their momma even more. Milkshake is a nice blend between cuddly and playful in the way he will always be down for both. He follows Bean everywhere and is always taking naps with her. He's a gentle baby who's a little shy at first but very warm when he gets more comfortable. Is also amazing with kids, dogs, and other cats.

🧁 Cupcake: He is very headstrong and loves to cuddle but only if he chooses the cuddle. Super playful and loves chasing his siblings around despite being the smallest of the bunch. He is super good with kids although he doesn't love all the attention they give him, would do good with cats but might take a moment to warm up to dogs.

🍪 Cookie: Cookie is a unique little guy in the fact that he was born without a tail. Despite this he is still super friendly but a bit more reserved. You need to gain his trust before he can become more open. He's a bit shy but loves to be around people nonetheless. Does great with kids as long as they're gentle with him and great with other cats. Might get spooked by dogs at first but would eventually warm up to them if someone helped him through it.

This foster family is incredible and would welcome you over any time so that you can meet and adopt the furbaby(s) of your choice!

Ezra was born February 25, 2024, so he's still just a baby! All of our fosters are so partial to black kittens... there is just something about them and they tend to steal hearts!

Ezra is such a perfectly chill cat! He loves to run and play and then settle in for a cuddle. He loves his naps...especially on a soft blanket. He is a social boy and LOVES people! He also loves other cats but needs a nice cat because aggressive play makes him cry for help. He came from a litter of the sweetest kittens and is the best behaved of even all those sweet cats. He would bring you so much joy and love!

Ezra, like all of our kiddos, is dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped and of course neutered!

His foster momma would love to invite you to her home so you can meet this darling baby boy and adopt him on the spot!

Adoption opportunity!

Simba may be an older gent (11 years), but he has plenty of life to live! This handsome guy is full of charm and seems to think he's still a kitten because he loves to play, chase toys, explore, and partake in a treat or two!

When he's not napping in the sun that peaks through the window, you can find Simba practicing his favorite hobby, kneading blankets!

This Garfield look-alike is such a good boy! He minds his manners and follows the rules (one of many benefits of adopting an adult cat). Simba only uses his scratching post, never any furniture. He knows right where his litter box is and has never had any accidents! He doesn't even climb on the counters!

Simba does great with other cats and loves kids. We aren't sure about dogs since he's never been around them before, but we think he'd be fine with a slow introduction considering he doesn't seem bothered by the dogs that pad by at the adoption events.

He does need to eat food that is formulated for crystals in urine and tends to prefer Purina One Pro Veterinary food. This counteracts crystalluria (crystals in urine), but don't let that scare you... as long as Simba follows his diet, he will be great!

If you don't have reason enough to consider adopting this "lil" guy, let me just tell you... a cuddle bug you want, a cuddle bug you will get! Simba is the king of snuggles and is living his best life sitting on your lap beside you or sharing your side of the bed!

What more could you possibly want?!

Dog Lovers, where are you??? 🦴🐾

Roxy is a beautiful, smiley, exceptionally well-behaved, 4-year-old Belgian Malinois Heeler. 🐕

This breed is well-known for its loyalty, affection, responsiveness, ability to train, confidence, and eagerness to please. The list is long, which is why they are in demand! 🩷💕

In the short time we've had this sweet girl, she has quickly become best buddies with the other 4 dogs in the home (both big and small) as well as the humans (again, both big and small). We aren't sure how she'd do around cats, but given the fact that she doesn't mind the small doggos, we have to assume she'd acclimate well. 🐶👦👶🐈‍⬛️

We have yet to discover a negative trait when it comes to Roxy. She would make an absolutely perfect addition to any family!!! 🏡

Roxy thoroughly enjoys the outdoors, a yard to play in, and would be thrilled to have an active family or parent that enjoys exploration. Of course, she would be equally as thrilled to plop down next to you after a long day and cuddle up to watch the latest episode of Law & Order (after all, this breed is typically trained in police work)!👮‍♀️🐾

We would LOVE to find a family who will adopt Roxy today... or, perhaps you'd consider fostering to adopt?! I mean, look at that SMILE!!! What dog do you know that smiles for the camera?! 🤭

Pay special attention to Gizmo! This sweet girl LOVES to spend a good portion of her time exploring outside. Though we are not necessarily proponents of outdoor cats, there are exceptions.

Gizmo is often taken to the shelter only to return back home after the owner goes and gets her out of "lock up."

Why you ask? Because a nasty neighbor chooses to pick Gizmo up from being outside, loads her into the car only to be dropped off to the shelter as an abandoned cat who chases nature's birds. There is no reasoning with this neighbor.
Gizmo can't figure out why she is being bounced around and is such a friendly girl, she just thinks they are going for a ride, until she finds herself in a crate.

We've explored all options, but this sweet girl is a free spirit and assumes the doggy door was installed just for her.

The owner has sadly come to terms that if she loves her cat, she must do what is best for her... and that is to find a new family who will allow her the privilege of roaming freshly cut grass! Please reach out... if nothing else, Gizmo would LOVE a foster until we find that perfect family! Anything is better than bouncing between her home and the shelter!

I'm feeling lucky after Fiona found the perfect home today!!! ♥️♠️❤️♣️

So let's try this again!

Tiara is a beautiful, 2-year-old white tabby who was found living under a 🚚 at a factory. A nice man eventually gained her trust and asked that we help find her a 🏡

This sweet girl LOVES people!!! However, she does have some sass, but that's OK! We think she would be happiest in a 🏡 that didn't belong to a 'crazy 🐈 lady' because she really just wants that spotlight! With that said, we do think she'd be just fine with another cat... just not a dozen other cats! 🤭

This girl would be absolutely fine with 🐕 and kids, providing they are respectful.

Unfortunately, Tiara hasn't received the visibility she deserves because he foster momma leads a busy life and has not been able to make it to many of the adoption events. Plus, Tiara would much rather meet you in her own surroundings! 😉

Do you believe in second chances? We sure do... for Cassidy's sake!

This beautiful girl was a wonderful teen mom. She raised her babies and waited patiently as each of them found a home of their own.

Cassidy herself was then adopted. However, her new family just doesn't think it's the "right fit." Which breaks our hearts, and hers too.

Cassidy is full of personality, is a sweet girl who loves to cuddle and would be the perfect addition to any family.

We would really love to help her find her place so that she too can experience what we all want in life... love! 🤎

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a compassionate soul, Debbie Hasbrouck, who dedicated her life to the rescue, care and welfare of animals. She passed away yesterday on 4/22/24 after an extended illness.

She is leaving behind a legacy of kindness and unwavering dedication to furry little ones. Debbie was more than just an animal rescuer; she was a beacon of hope for countless creatures in need. Whether it was rescuing abandoned kittens from the streets, rehabilitating injured cats and dogs, orphaned kittens, or providing sanctuary for neglected animals, she approached each challenge with boundless empathy and determination.

Through Debbie’s tireless efforts, she helped build “A New Beginning Animal Rescue” from absolutely nothing, to what it is today, with over 5000 animals rescued and saved!
She touched the lives of both animals and humans alike. She inspired others to join in her mission, fostering a community of like-minded individuals who shared her passion for animal welfare and rescue.

Debbie's impact extended far beyond the boundaries of her local community. She was a voice for the voiceless and raising awareness about the importance of responsible pet ownership.

With her rescue-work, Debbie leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. The animals she helped to rescue and care for found not only shelter and sustenance because of her but also comfort and companionship in her presence.

Though Debbie may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves and to continue her important work with “A New Beginning Animal Rescue”.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the rescue she helped grow A New Beginning Animal Rescue, ensuring that her mission of compassion and kindness endures.

There will be a Celebration of Life that will be announced.

Rest in peace, dear Debbie. You have crossed the rainbow bridge, but your memory will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives you've touched.

Our Story

A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR) is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit Utah-based organization. Our goal is to thoughtfully reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates; improve Weber and Davis Counties’ animal welfare with compassion and respect through community building and public education on the mutual benefits of responsible pet parenting; and enhance the quality of life of companion animals in need of a new beginning and a forever home. We strive to ensure that each and every animal rescued by ANBAR is cared for; treated with compassion, respect, and dignity. While we are located in the Roy-Layton-Ogden, UT area, we also partner with local and regional groups and accept transfer rescues from throughout northern Utah and the surrounding states. ANBAR does not turn away any companion animals but welcomes them regardless of their condition and do not place a time limit on their stay with us. We believe that euthanasia should be used only as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering – such as when an animal is terminally ill, critically injured, or dying. ANBAR embraces a multi-prong strategic service approach to contribute to reach our goal of reducing the number of adoptable animals euthanized each year. Our services include: *Rehoming and Adoption opportunities and events for ANBAR companion animals *Spay/neuter of ANBAR animals, to effectively reduce the problems of pet overpopulation *Veterinary care for ANBAR animals *Volunteer foster care program to provide housing for rescued or surrendered companion animals, until a qualified forever home is found *Volunteer foster care for special needs animals *Volunteer public education and training programs Rehome and Adoption Opportunities and Events: ANBAR is gratified to have a long-standing special partnership with Petco in holding adoption events every Saturday - without exception - at the Petco store in Layton, UT, since our inception in 2008. Additionally, up to 3 kittens and young cats are displayed at the Petco store for adoption, and rotated weekly to increase visibility and opportunity. Nearly 5,000 companion animals (kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs – and rabbits) have found homes through our adoption events as a result of this joint endeavor.
