Hi… I’m Greta.
I’ve been waiting a really long time. 💔

😿 I’m one of ANBAR’s longest residents, and I’ll be 7 years old in February. I’ve grown up here. I’ve watched kittens come and go, families fall in love, and carriers leave without me inside them. People don’t notice me much. Adoption events are too overwhelming for me, so I stay behind and hope someone will read my story instead.

I wasn’t always a cat with "special needs.” I came to the rescue as a tiny 4-week-old baby and I grew into a beautiful little lady with a gentle soul. But when I was about a year old, something scary started happening. 🙀 My skin began to hurt — really hurt. Even the softest touch can sometimes feel like a thousand needles. It’s called Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome, and I promise you this: when I hiss, scratch, or react suddenly, it’s not because I’m mean or ungrateful. It’s because I’m in pain… and I can’t control it. 😭

Stress makes it worse. Other cats make it much worse. When I’m around them, my body betrays me — my back twitches, my tail flicks, and I feel overwhelmed. 💔

😺 But when I was finally given my own quiet bedroom? Everything changed. I relaxed. I softened. I became affectionate, loving, and so much more myself. The episodes faded. I finally felt safe.

What I need is simple, even if it’s specific:
• An adult-only home
• No other cats
• No small children
• An experienced cat parent who understands that boundaries are love

🐶 Dogs are okay — I actually do really well with them if they respect me!

✔️ I’m fully litter box trained.
✔️ I’m loyal.
✔️ I’m gentle when I’m comfortable.

💞 I just need someone who sees past my diagnosis and understands that special needs doesn’t mean unlovable — it means deserving. 🐾

⚠️ I don’t need constant pets.
⚠️ I don’t need chaos.

😽 I need patience. Quiet. A safe place to land. I need someone who won’t give up on me.

Before you scroll past me because I’m black and not a teeny tiny baby (I'm only 5yrs old with a long life ahead), I’d like to formally protest: that’s not fair. I promise I am far more interesting than a kitten who doesn’t even know what a couch is yet.

👑 My name is Little Prince—and no, that’s not a nickname I gave myself… okay maybe it is, but it fits. I am noble, kind, and possess the softest soul wrapped in a very handsome, very sleek black coat. 🐈‍⬛️ I am tall, elegant, and blessed with striking green eyes that will absolutely stare into your soul while I purr on your lap.

And oh yes… the lap.
Let’s talk about that.

😻 I am THE lap cat. The cuddle connoisseur. The affectionate gentleman who lives for pets, snuggles, and being chosen. I don’t just enjoy love— 💞 I thrive on it. I’m starving for attention in the most polite, endearing way possible. Sit down once and I’ll show you exactly where I belong (hint: it’s on you). 😹

Other cats? 🐈🐈‍⬛️ YES, purrty please! I get along with all the other cats in my foster home. In fact, if you're looking to adopt two (because everybody needs a buddy) my foster momma would love for you to meet some of my furrends!

You may notice I look a little different around my eyes. 👀 I have a minor skin condition that doesn’t bother me one bit, doesn’t concern the vet and shouldn't concern you or the other pets because it's not contagious 🩺 — but it does make me unique. And honestly? A prince should stand out. Ordinary is overrated anyway. 😼

I know I’m not a baby.
I know I’m not flashy.

💙 But I am calm. 💚 I am gentle. 🧡I am loyal. 💛I am ready.

Ready for a couch, a lap, a family, and someone who sees past color and age and says, “That one. That’s my cat.”🧍‍♂️🐈‍⬛️🧎‍♀️

Hi… it’s me. Fawn. 🩶🧡🤍
Birthday: 7/20/2024 (yes, I’m still basically a baby myself).

So… I have a question I’ve been meaning to ask. Why does everyone look at me… and then keep scrolling? 😿

Is it my face? I know I look like I’m judging you. I promise I’m not (okay, maybe a little). It’s just my face. Underneath it is a very soft, very gentle girl who survived being homeless, had her babies in a ditch, and still chose to trust humans again.

When I met my foster mama, I didn’t hiss. I didn’t swipe. I leaned in. Because I want love. I crave it. I’m the kind of cat who lets a toddler carry me around like a stuffed animal 😹 — not because I love it, but because I’m patient and kind and I know they mean well.

I love cozy blankets. I love treats (ALL of them — I lived by a Mexican restaurant, so yes, I’m cultured). I love ear and chin scratches so much I lean into your hand like I’ve been waiting my whole life for it. And once I know I’m safe? I’ll sit on your lap and talk your ear off about my day 😸💕

I’ll be honest — I don’t love other cats, and dogs are a hard no for me. I’ve been a mama, and I take that job seriously. I still have one baby with me, so yeah… I growl at other animals. Wouldn’t you, if you were protecting your child? Once I’m done being a mom, with slow and patient introductions, I might accept a calm kitty roommate. But I’d really shine as your one-and-only girl.

I do great with kids. I like being near my people. I love soft blankets, warm laps, and extra treats if you’re feeling generous.

I’m spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed — I’ve done everything right. I’m petite because I was such a young mama, and my dilute tortoiseshell coat has these beautiful blue tones that make people stop and say “wow” 😍

So I’ll ask again, quietly this time…

🐾 A Message From Us Cats (Please Read, Human!) 🐾

‼️Attention hoomans‼️We regret to inform you that tomorrow’s adoption event has been cat-celed (CANCELED for those who don't speak cat). 😹 Our hardworking humans are spending the first weekend of the year recharging their batteries (apparently they don’t nap 18 hours a day like we do). 😼

BUT—don’t get your whiskers in a twist! You’re still paws-itively invited into our homes 🏡 to meet us, and YES… you can adopt on the spot. That’s right. No kitten around. We’re ready to pack our tiny emotional support bags and move in. 🎒

Also, some of our best 🐈 🐈‍⬛️ are currently holding auditions for a “fur-ever family” inside the cozy cubbies at Petco in Layton. 👀 They’ve been practicing their cutest head tilts, slow blinks, and “please pick me” meows just for you. One visit could change a life (ours… and probably yours). 💞

It’s not kitten season. It’s winter.
Teen & adult 🐈 who didn’t get scooped up in spring are still out there right now... pressed against fences and curled under cars, trying to outlast the night.

They need a pause from survival.
They are cold, hungry and lonely when they don’t have to be.

Hi, I’m Darth and I would loooove a home with a cat bestie! 😸

I'm trying to be brave... my brother was adopted and even though I'm happy he found a family, I miss him SOOO much that I've been cuddling with my stuffy, which I guess will have to do for now, until I find a new BFF. 🧸💔

I'm looking for someone who will play, explore and nap with me! I'm a curious 4-month-old little guy and I still experience kitten antics like an occasional adorable finger nibble but my foster family always raves about what a good boy I am!

I’d be happiest joining a home with a nice, playful cat who can show me the ropes, the best nap spots and maybe let me curl up and cuddle with them! 😸 I LOVE cats, kids and I'm even good with dogs! As long as they are nice to me, of course! 🐈‍⬛️ 👦 ❤️ 👧 🐕

I'm THAT 🐈 who makes it really difficult to get off the couch. Cuddle sessions - the BEST!

I should probably mention that I’m FIV-positive, which just means I need a little extra help keeping my handsome face clean. Sometimes I drool a bit or get a runny nose—I can’t help it! But honestly, keeping a drool rag nearby is a pretty small price to pay for someone as cute as me. I also have a tiny, constant sneeze that makes some people pause… but my foster mama barely notices it anymore and says it just adds to my charm. I’ll take it. 😻

Please don’t let my age or diagnosis scare you off. I may not zoom around or pounce on toys like a kitten, but what I do offer is endless affection. I love curling up in your lap, kneading biscuits while you pet me, and listening intently to every loving word you say. 😹 Just don’t forget the treats—I certainly won’t.

I'm looking for the kind of person who knows a diagnosis doesn’t define a soul. 💞 I’m ready to be someone’s loyal, loving best friend for the rest of our lives. All I need is a cozy spot, a gentle hand to hold my 🐾 and a human to call my own.

Note: FIV sounds scary, but in real life, it usually isn’t.

The Quick Truth

What is it?
FIV is a virus that affects a cat’s immune system—but most cats live normal, full lives.

Symptoms?
Often none at all. Many FIV+ cats never get sick.

Care?
Super basic:
Indoor-only
Regular vet checkups
Treat illnesses early (which you’d do anyway)

Is it contagious?
❌ Not casually.
It’s not spread by sharing bowls, litter boxes, cuddling, or grooming.
It’s mainly spread through deep bite wounds, so indoor, neutered cats = very low risk.

Why adopt one?
They’re just normal cats with terrible PR. The stigma is worse than the condition—and they’re some of the most loving, overlooked cats in rescue.

Our Story

A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR) is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit Utah-based organization. Our goal is to thoughtfully reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates; improve Weber and Davis Counties’ animal welfare with compassion and respect through community building and public education on the mutual benefits of responsible pet parenting; and enhance the quality of life of companion animals in need of a new beginning and a forever home. We strive to ensure that each and every animal rescued by ANBAR is cared for; treated with compassion, respect, and dignity. While we are located in the Roy-Layton-Ogden, UT area, we also partner with local and regional groups and accept transfer rescues from throughout northern Utah and the surrounding states. ANBAR does not turn away any companion animals but welcomes them regardless of their condition and do not place a time limit on their stay with us. We believe that euthanasia should be used only as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering – such as when an animal is terminally ill, critically injured, or dying. ANBAR embraces a multi-prong strategic service approach to contribute to reach our goal of reducing the number of adoptable animals euthanized each year. Our services include: *Rehoming and Adoption opportunities and events for ANBAR companion animals *Spay/neuter of ANBAR animals, to effectively reduce the problems of pet overpopulation *Veterinary care for ANBAR animals *Volunteer foster care program to provide housing for rescued or surrendered companion animals, until a qualified forever home is found *Volunteer foster care for special needs animals *Volunteer public education and training programs Rehome and Adoption Opportunities and Events: ANBAR is gratified to have a long-standing special partnership with Petco in holding adoption events every Saturday - without exception - at the Petco store in Layton, UT, since our inception in 2008. Additionally, up to 3 kittens and young cats are displayed at the Petco store for adoption, and rotated weekly to increase visibility and opportunity. Nearly 5,000 companion animals (kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs – and rabbits) have found homes through our adoption events as a result of this joint endeavor.
