www.anbarrescue.org Rescue β™‘ Foster β™‘ Adopt A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR) is a foster-based rescue focused on providing cats and dogs loving temporary homes while awaiting their forever homes. ANBAR primarily focuses in the Weber/Davis County region, but we also accept transfers from throughout northern Utah and surrounding states. Our goal is to reduce unnecessary euthana

sia rates and improve animal welfare through community building and public education on the mutual benefits of spay/neutering your animals and responsible pet ownership. Through our generous donors and amazing fosters, ANBAR is able to rescue severe medical cases and provide the assistance necessary for their survival. We believe that euthanasia should only be used as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering. ANBAR’s ultimate mission is to give every rescue a new beginning.

"Just another brown tabby" is all I hear when people walk past me. 😿 Did you know brown tabbies are the new black cat - no one wants us! πŸ’”

My name is Tiger Lily and I'm currently in the cat habitat cubby at Petco in Layton! You can come meet me during regular business hours. πŸ•™

I'm going to be one-year-old in January. πŸ’‹ I am special & unique in my own way, with SO much to offer a family now that I know what being a pet feels like. πŸ’•

You see, I have come such a long way from my outdoor beginnings. πŸ™€ Not too long ago, I was just another stray cat begging for scraps and an occasional kind word from a stranger.

Slowly, I learned to trust this sweet lady who found me and realized I had potential. πŸˆπŸ§Žβ€β™€οΈBefore I knew it, she brought me inside her home, gave me my very own warm blanket, some toys and multiple meals! 🏑 I didn't know how great life could really be!!!

In just a few short weeks I have decided that I LOVE being an indoor girl. 😻 Though, I am a huge fan of window watching, either on the window sill or on top of the cat tree. πŸͺŸ 🐦 🌳 It’s my favorite way to keep an eye on the world that I used to know, from the safety and comfort of my cozy new life.

I get along great with other cats! 🐈❣️ πŸˆβ€β¬›οΈ I am very calm around them and should warm up really well to any new feline sibling, as long as you slowly introduce us!

I've never really been around a dog 🐢 but I'm pretty chill so if they respect me then I'm sure we will be fine!

I do however, LOVE humans of all ages!!! πŸ‘¨ πŸ‘© They are the BEST!!! πŸ‘§ πŸ‘¦ I'm super talkative and I really enjoy β€œchatting” with my humans and showing them just how lovey and social I truly am! πŸ‘Ά

I have very soft fur and love being pet while I sit next to you. Expect lots of loud purrs from me because thats one way I can show you how happy I am! πŸ˜½πŸ’‹

Not only am I affectionate but I'm playful too! 😸 See, I'm the purrfect cat! βœ”οΈ out the cute πŸ“Ή of me in the comments below!

I love all toys and will play with anything you offer! 🧢πŸͺΆ Oh, and I love to sit in cardboard scratcher bowls.πŸ“¦ I'm just cute that way!

Ooooh, just in case you are wondering - I have pawsome manners, am litter trained and never have any accidents! 🐾

All you have to do is fill this adoption form out and pay my $120 adoption fee which covers my deworm, vaccinations, microchip, spay and rabies shot.πŸ’‰

https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/ANB/Cat

Then, come pick me up! 😺 It's SO EASY!

Just wait until you meet me... you'll see what a friendly, affectionate companion I am! πŸ©·πŸ’œ I'm so, SO ready to find a forever home where I’ll be cherished for the sweet, resilient and vocal girl that I am.

I want a family - will you PURRtty please be mine? πŸ«‚πŸ’žπŸ˜Ί

βœ”οΈ out the πŸ“Ή clips in the comments below to see just how lovey these πŸˆπŸˆβ€β¬›οΈ are! What does that say about these sweethearts who have not had the luxury of human love?! !

We trapped 20-25 😺 (yes, you read that correctly, 20-25 exceptionally lovey cats with no where but the wilderness to go) thinking they were feral. πŸ”’ Turns out, they are as FRIENDLY & AFFECTIONATE as can be!!! 😻😻😻

We can't just release them back to where we found them or they will become prey. πŸ˜ΏπŸ¦…

Please, please help us and open your homes up to a couple of these kiddos! 🩷 FOSTER or ADOPT 🩷 - it doesn't matter, just so long as they have a safe environment until we can find something more secure for them. 🏑

The idea of letting these sweet, sweet cats go without first trying to find a family, is not how we operate. ❣️

πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™ ANBAR needs your help! πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

There is an old saying that β€œBad things come in threes”, and that seems to be holding true, as our rescue has been hit with THREE emergency medical cases last week!

The first and most urgent is a five month old kitten named Taylor. He had been hospitalized at Mountain West Veterinary specialists in Layton fighting his hardest, and after five days he was finally able to go home to his experienced medical foster. He was rushed to the ER Thursday evening due to rapid onset medical shock from an unknown cause. He went from mild puking and nausea in the morning to full on shock hours later. The amazing team at Mountain West was able to stabilize him, but at the time we still had no idea what caused this. At first we thought it may be some kind of toxic exposure as his bloodwork indicated his kidney levels were off the charts (He was found and trapped at a car detail shop in Ogden a week prior), but his kidneys managed to recover by the morning, and after numerous tests it was revealed that he had come down with a sudden and extreme atypical case of Feline Panleukopenia, also known as feline parvo/distemper.

He is with a very experienced medical foster, but due to medical complications such as blood pressure drops, it became obvious that he needed to remain hospitalized with a constant medical IV to have the best chance at survival. He has been making slow and steady progress, and at this point we are very hopeful for a full recovery. But almost five days of hospitalization is not cheap, and his medical bill is close to $5000! πŸ™€

Second is Tango, an extremely sweet gentleman who, despite appearances, is ONLY THREE YEARS OLD. He came to us in extremely poor condition, just skin and bones and with a severe upper respiratory infection. One of his eyes was actually sealed shut with infection. We managed to avoid the ER with him and got him started on several antibiotics and fluids, and he is improving, but it's become apparent that the root of his problem is a disease called Feline Stomatitis. In oversimplified terms, Stomatitis is when a cat becomes allergic to their own teeth. This disease is very painful, and while steroids can be used to subdue the disease for a time, eventually the only treatment is to extract all the teeth. This surgery is not cheap. and Tango will be the THIRD cat this year that we will have to do this surgery for. The final bill for Tango after this surgery will likely be $600+.

Last but not least is Mittens, a scared kitten who is just eight months old and has an injured paw. We have been working with a good Samaritan to take in a batch of abandoned kittens near her house, and last Saturday Mittens showed up limping and with a swollen front paw. She grabbed him and we took him to Mountain West. Luckily, he did not have a broken leg. But he did have a large abscess in his paw that had to be surgically drained. He is making a great recovery, and slowly opening up to his foster, but his bill from the ER was $535.

We don’t expect to cover all these bills with this fundraiser, but these three back-to-back medical cases have severely impacted our medical funds, so we are once again asking for the community's help. Every donation has an impact, even as little as $5! And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this post. You never know if the next person who sees this can!

You can donate using:
-The β€œDonate” button below this post
-The donate button on our main page

Finally, you can also donate in-person at our adoption events! We are usually at the Layton Petco on Saturdays from 12-4, but this coming Saturday (Nov 15th) we will be at the Newgate Mall in Ogden from 12-4.

πŸ’”Abandoned & forgotten adult cats find themselves heartbroken each time they gear up for another adoption event, knowing they will once again be passed up for a younger version of themselves. 🐈 πŸˆβ€β¬›οΈ

Reasons you should choose them?
βœ”οΈ We've got plenty!

1. What you see is what you get. 😻
Adult cats know who they are. PURRsonality, size, temperament - all a guessing game with young kittens who, sure, they are cute... but they too will get big!

2. After a long day, do you just want to curl up and relax with your furbaby? Adults want to lounge or cuddle while quietly giving you the love you need. Though they do remain active and still play - 😼 they just don't cause havoc the way most rambunctious kittens do who are high-energy, get into everything and don't have an "off button."

3. Adult cats require less attention and supervision. 😽 They have well-developed manners, use the litter box and enjoy scratching posts. Unlike kittens who are still learning and require constant reminders.

4. Adults are usually a better choice for families with small children. Kittens often play rough and they are sharp. πŸ™€ They can’t help it, but kittens are all teeth and claws. They climb your leg, the curtains, knock over dΓ©cor and step under your feet. Oh, and they chew! Teething causes them to chew on shoes, the corners of books, plants, ear lobes and fingers, electrical cords, drapery strings and much, much more. Most adult cats don't do that!

5. Adult cats will sleep at the foot of your bed or in a cozy spot in another room. They tend to sleep when you do. 😹 Kittens run around all night and attack your toes through the blanket just to wake you up!

6. Many adult cats end up in shelters due to no fault of their own! 😿
Separated from their loved ones, surrounded by other cats, confined, confused and scared.

7. People gravitate toward kitties while older cats sit by and watch, as one loving family after another passes them by. 😾 Watch them! They tend to lay with their heads down, showing little to no sign of engagement because they know their chances of being adopted are slim.

But, YOU... you are their chance to feel loved! πŸ’” Imagine, not having a family because you age out! Rescue cats know to give unconditional love to the family that saves them! πŸ’ž

Our Story

A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR) is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit Utah-based organization. Our goal is to thoughtfully reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates; improve Weber and Davis Counties’ animal welfare with compassion and respect through community building and public education on the mutual benefits of responsible pet parenting; and enhance the quality of life of companion animals in need of a new beginning and a forever home. We strive to ensure that each and every animal rescued by ANBAR is cared for; treated with compassion, respect, and dignity. While we are located in the Roy-Layton-Ogden, UT area, we also partner with local and regional groups and accept transfer rescues from throughout northern Utah and the surrounding states. ANBAR does not turn away any companion animals but welcomes them regardless of their condition and do not place a time limit on their stay with us. We believe that euthanasia should be used only as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering – such as when an animal is terminally ill, critically injured, or dying. ANBAR embraces a multi-prong strategic service approach to contribute to reach our goal of reducing the number of adoptable animals euthanized each year. Our services include: *Rehoming and Adoption opportunities and events for ANBAR companion animals *Spay/neuter of ANBAR animals, to effectively reduce the problems of pet overpopulation *Veterinary care for ANBAR animals *Volunteer foster care program to provide housing for rescued or surrendered companion animals, until a qualified forever home is found *Volunteer foster care for special needs animals *Volunteer public education and training programs Rehome and Adoption Opportunities and Events: ANBAR is gratified to have a long-standing special partnership with Petco in holding adoption events every Saturday - without exception - at the Petco store in Layton, UT, since our inception in 2008. Additionally, up to 3 kittens and young cats are displayed at the Petco store for adoption, and rotated weekly to increase visibility and opportunity. Nearly 5,000 companion animals (kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs – and rabbits) have found homes through our adoption events as a result of this joint endeavor.
