Welcome to A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR)! We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit Utah-based organization dedicated to saving lives.

A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR) is a foster-based rescue focused on providing cats and dogs loving temporary homes while awaiting their forever homes. ANBAR primarily focuses in the Weber/Davis County region, but we also accept transfers from throughout northern Utah and surrounding states. Our goal is to reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates and improve animal welfare through community buildi

ng and public education on the mutual benefits of spay/neutering your animals and responsible pet ownership. Through our generous donors and amazing fosters, ANBAR is able to rescue severe medical cases and provide the assistance necessary for their survival. We believe that euthanasia should only be used as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering. ANBAR’s ultimate mission is to give every rescue a new beginning.

That purrfectly describes me!!!🎉 I'm Kira, a one-year-old tortie who hopes that you'll read this post 📰 and get the "feeling" that we are meant to be. 🐾

Like I mentioned earlier, I love being in the middle... in fact, I insist on it! It's just so much fun to be involved! 🫂🐈‍⬛️🫂 Even as my foster momma tried to write✍️ this bio, I pawsed a challenge for her because she wasn't giving me her undivided attention. 😹

I mean, what's more important... ME 😽 or doing jigsaw puzzles 🧩 and 🎬 watching movies? Exactly, I'm glad we agree that it's me, of course! 😺

Maybe, just maybe, my pawsistence stems from having lived in a cat colony with minimal human interaction. 😿

On that note, I do get along exceptionally well with other cats 🐈 as long as they are accepting of me. As far as 🐕 go, I don't think I'd mind them as long as they are calm and nice to me. 🥰

However, I do have purrty firm boundaries, and so I think it might be best ⚠️ if my new family has older children who know to respect me and that it is not kind to pull tails or chase me. 🙀

I do prefer playing over sitting in your lap, relaxing. And, I am a talkative cat 📢 who will let you know when the cat box 📦 needs to be cleaned, when my food 🍲 needs to be filled, and when it's time to play. 🪶

I'm a very easy-to-please gal who just knows what I want because my foster has now shown me how wonderful life can be. 💞

Hi, my name is Dale! 🖤🤍
As you can see from my pictures 📷, I am VERY handsome!!!

Even though I'm not a kitten, I'm still playful and get the zoomies. 😸 My 🎂 is June 17, 2022.

I have lots of toys at my foster mom's 🏠 that I love to play with, especially the ones with catnip inside. 🌱

She also has these cool things that I can scratch my nails 💅 on, I really like those. 💕

I'm not picky when it comes to food. I like it all dry, wet & any kind of treats. 🐟 My foster mom gives me a little bit of wet food every day and a couple Temptations for being a good boy. 😻

She says I'm very "vocal and nosy." 😹 I don't know what that means, but I like to talk and follow her everywhere she goes.

I LOVE to cuddle, and I mean a lot! 💤 💞 Like as soon as you sit down, boom, I'm there making biscuits 🍩 and ready to be as close to you as I can.

I'm always purring & you'll know when I'm REALLY happy because I drool (don't judge me, just love me!) 🙀

There are lots of birds 🐦 outside 🪟 I like to be able to see outside & watch them.

I would do best being the only animal in my new home. Since it's just me and my foster mom I've not been around kids but I think I would be ok. 👦👧🏻

I just need to be with someone who will give me lots of love & affectionate because I have a lot to give. ❤️🩷💜💙

Happy MEOWnday!!!

Do you ever look at life and wonder what you did to get so lucky? 🍀 I sure do!

My name is Misty and I am two-years-old. I was born outside, and a sweet old lady 👵🏻 took care of me and so many other 🐈. We all just hung around her yard because she provided shelter 📦 and 🐟.

Then, one day, her friend took me to her 🏡 because she realized I was pregnant! 🙀 I was just a teen myself so I didn't know what was going on. But, it sure was nice to be snuggled and have my babies in a warm, safe environment. ❣️

Since then, my kids have grown and found families of their own. I'm so happy for all of them! 😻 Now, I'm hoping someone will want to adopt me too! 🐾🩷

I am a gentle, somewhat shy kinda gal who considers myself to be independent but loves being pet. 😽 My foster family thinks I'm so funny because I can never make up my mind... one minute, I ask for loves, but then the next, I walk away bored. I especially like being rubbed on the side of my chin. That's how you can win me over! 🏅

Sometimes, I can be bashful around new animals 🐶 😸 at first, but I usually just stay out of their way until I'm more familiar with them. They usually grow on me and overall, I'm a pretty chill girl so I imagine I'll acclimate to any home as long as everyone treats me well! 💜🩵 I do love kids and humans of all ages!

One of my favorite things to do is sit by a 🪟 where I can people watch 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ or see the 🚘🛻 drive by. On a good day, I'll see a 🐦 🐦‍⬛ or two and they will occupy me for hours!

I do enjoy playing. After all, I'm still very young. Like most cats, I think 🪶 toys, laser pointers, pompom balls 🧶 , and 🐈 towers are purrmazing!!!

When I feel like taking a little cat nap 💤 , I usually choose a quiet corner or a cozy spot underneath the chair🪑.

My foster momma always tells me what a good girl I am. 🥰 I enjoy communicating with her and will go get her if the water 💦 is low or I want something. She talks back with me! We have the best relationship! 💕She always tells people how much she loves ❤️ love me and how I was an excellent mother to my kittens. Isn't that nice of her?

People also think I'm extra cute because of my black patch around my 👁. They just think I'm unique and definitely agree!

I'd really ❤️ to meet you! I don't often get the opportunity to go to Petco for the adoption events, which is why I haven't yet found my furever humans. 😿 But, we would absolutely love for you to come and meet me at our 🏡 here in Ogden. Hello! You've met the rest (well, some of them) now meet the best. 😹 Ok, okay!!! One of the best, is that better? 💞

My name is Whisper, and I am quickly approaching my senior stage in life. Though, even at 10 years, I really don't feel old. Purrhaps we should say, seasoned instead! I certainly don't have the medical challenges some of my friends have had to experience. In fact, I feel FURnomemal!!! 😻

I'm an especially distinguished little lady 🐈 who loves to lay next to you and I fully enjoy getting pets and belly rubs. ❣️

As luck would have it, I get along great with other cats as long as they can accept that I am the Queen 👑! I mean, look at me... I'm a very purrty girl, don't you think? 💋

Speaking of which, beauty like this doesn't come without effort. My fur tends to grow quite long and then gets matted so I'm accustomed to biannual grooming where they shave me down.💈My favorite is the lion cut because I look so stunningly fierce! 🦁

My sweet momma is moving out of the country 🌎 and knows that will be too stressful on me so, 🙀 we are hoping to find the perfect family who will love me and the rest of my 9 lives!

I am very well-behaved. As I mentioned before, I get along great with other cats, 🐈‍⬛️🐈 considering I reside with several. I currently live with a chihuahua dog 🐶 named "Faith." Is that really a dog??? I mean, I'm almost bigger than she is!!! I can't be bothered with her... she doesn't bug me, I just ignore her! 😺

I also live with the cutest little human 3yr old girl and she is SO nice to me! As long as you can promise me that 👦 👶 👧🏻 won't pull my fur or be mean to me, I will love them too! 😻

Soooo... who wants to meet me?✋️🥰 I live in Roy and would much prefer meeting in my own surroundings rather than having to go to Petco.

Good Meowning!!!! 🌤
Introducing two of our newest furbabies... meet Kevin & George! 💙🩵 Pawfect clips can be seen in the comments!

I'm Kevin, and I am such a sweetheart! ❤️ My favorite thing in the whole world are belly rubs. I just love being pampered... you see my long, black coat? I'd be happy to let you brush me all day long! 😹 I’ll run in front of you, plop down, and roll over so I can be rubbed!

I love to be included in everything my foster mom does - 🍽 dishes 🧺 laundry 🛌 lounging... I just like to be near her. Bonus points if it’s by a big 🪟 I can look out of!

I also love playing with the big 🐕 that lives here. We love to chase each other around and sneak up on each other. 👀

We can't forget about George, the other foster 🐈 I live with, who happens to be my brother! I really love playing with him, it's so much fun!

I haven’t been around kids 👦 👧🏻 but my foster mom thinks I’ll do really well with them! She says I’m the perfect balance of independent and cuddly! Don’t tell the other cats, but she says I’m one of her top 3 cats she’s fostered! 😽

My brother Kevin and I have so much in common! However, I’m more adventurous and curious 🔎🧭 - that’s why I was named George, like Curious George!

Do you like kisses? I really hope so because I'm kissing cat kinda guy! 😽💋 I love to give kisses.

I love playing with toys 📦🪶🧶 and big zoomies through the house!

I also do well with the big dog🐶 that lives here. She likes to boop me with her nose and I like to playfully swat her back!😸

After all the playing is done, I love to sit in my foster’s lap for a nap 💤. Of course, I like to give a few 💋 before falling asleep!

I also really love looking outside! 🪟 🌳 🐦

One quirk about me, you ask? Well, I really enjoy the litter box... digging is just so much fun! Sometimes, I accidentally kick the litter out of the box. Catpologies! 🙀😬

I’m a chatty little guy when I feel excluded! Because of that, I would ❤️ to have a furry friend for when you’re gone - dog or cat. 🐾 🐈 🐕 🐾

I haven’t been around kids 👧🏻👦 but my foster mom thinks I’ll do really well with them as I’m super patient. I'm a really good boy!!! 😻

Just like my brother Kevin, I’m also top 3 for my foster mom’s favorite fosters! 💙💜🧡
I’d enjoy going with him, but I’m always up for making new friends! 🐈‍⬛️🐸🐰🐖🐶

Oh man, I've been waiting so pawtiently for my turn. I've been going crazy since my brother was adopted last week... I NEED a buddy! 😽❣️

I'm Theo!
I'm a playful, adventurous boy who is ready to find my forever 🏡!

At just six months old, I am full of energy and love to chase laser pointers, zoom through tunnels, and watch the 🌏 from the 🪟.

While I do show signs of being a cuddle bug, playtime is my top priority right now!!! 💕

I adore other 🐈‍⬛️🐈 and would thrive with a feline friend. Dogs 🐶 don't bother me at all!!!
And, I am great with kids 🩵👧🏻👶👦🩷!

💙💙💙 Miss Birdie needs your help! 💙💙💙

Update: Miss Birdie is finally home! Her second stay at the ER was over almost 48 hours on IV fluids and antibiotics, but she was finally able to go home last night with no fever. The whole vet staff loved her, and she was such a trooper throughout the whole thing. She was even playing with toys while at the vet with a high fever! We took a culture of the mastitis bacteria to try and figure out what strain it is to fine tune the antibiotics more, but she's currently on two kinds and it seems to be working.

Unfortunately, we also have some bad news. The second antibiotic is not rated safe for nursing kittens, so we cannot reunite her with her babies just yet. And despite the amazing efforts of our bottle feeder foster, four of her six kittens have passed away in the past few days. We didn't go into detail in the original post, but her kittens were not born very healthy. They were likely in**ed (Birdie was surrendered with another intact male cat who was the same age and likely her brother) and they had to be revived immediately after birth and struggled with weight gain. Their passing likely had little to do with Mama's Mastitis.

And as for medical bills, the final bill for Miss Birdie is just over $3000. We cannot thank those who have donated already enough, but we still need to raise over a $1000 more to cover the costs.

Last week we took in a young cat who we quickly realized was only nine months old and HEAVILY pregnant. We quickly placed her in an experienced foster, and on Monday the 10th she gave birth to six adorable little tabby kittens. Despite just being a big kitten herself, she’s doing a wonderful job as a first time mom!

But on Saturday the 15th she suddenly was acting off, ignoring her kittens and acting lethargic. We rushed her to Mountain West Veterinary Specialists with fears of retained placenta. She had a fever of 107° and was immediately started on IV fluids and antibiotics.

Through testing we found out it was likely not in fact retained placenta, but seemingly a very atypical case of mastitis. But her fever was stubborn and she had to stay at Mountain West on IV fluids and antibiotics for almost 24 hours to get her fever down to just 103°. Seemingly in stable condition, she was finally able to be sent home to be reunited with her kittens who were being bottle fed in the meantime (while staying on Antibiotics and pain meds!). She still had a mild fever but was back to her usual self until just an hour ago when her fever was once again spiking to 107°. We are rushing her back to Mountain West now, but she will very likely have to be hospitalized with a IV once again while more tests are run to try and figure out what is going on!

This is where we need the community's help. We already spent $1,177.47 for the original visit, and we expect this visit to also be quite costly. Any donation helps, even as little as $5! And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing! You never know if the next person who sees this can!

It's my turn, and I'm so excited to tell you about myself!!!

Hi, my name is Sam and NO, I don't like green eggs and ham. 😸 My foster Meowmy says I am a very well behaved 3 year old handsome boy. (She's right!)

I have to be an indoor only cat because someone took out my claws and I can't defend myself against another animal outside. 🙀 Your guess is as good as mine... I don't know why humans do that to us! FURRtunately, it hasn't created any issues with me using the litter box.

I am a bit timid, and I don't like to be startled or around loud noises. 🛑🎉

I live with 3 🐈‍⬛️🐈🐈‍⬛️ that ignore me and this makes me sad. 💦 I would be really happy if I had another 😽 to love, cuddle, and play with.

I haven't been around a 🐶 or kids 👧🏻👶 but Meowmy doesn't think I would do well with young kids or an active dog because I don't like to be startled. However, as long as they respect my space and are nice to me, we could chat! 💕 Who knows, maybe they would end up being my best FURRiend!!!

I'm very well behaved. 😺 I use my litterbox and never have accidents. I love my toys, especially cuddling with my stuffed sloth, feathers on a stick and playing in water. 🧶🪶🚿 I love to cuddle on the couch or in 🛌 with Meowmy.

Because of my long fur, I will need to be brushed daily. Meowmy is working on getting me used to the brush, and with some patience and treats I will get used to being brushed all over. 💈🐟

I've collected a lot of things in my foster home that I can bring with me to your home. I would love to have a furever 🏡 where I am spoken to softly with love, and cuddled. 🧳 If you want to give me a furever home, I will pack up my brush, toys, Meowmy big blanket I stole and made into a bed, and my treats. I am very motivated by Churo treats. ❤️

Meeting you and becoming part of the family is going to be the BEST day of my life!!!

Welp... another adoption event came and left and yet, here we are! 😿 Those little kittens have ALL the luck!!!

We really want our chance at becoming someone's pawsitively purrfect pet! 🐈‍⬛️🐈

Our names are Tiny and Patches. We are not related, but we are buds and we love in the same foster home.🩷🩵 However, we do not need to be adopted together!

I'm Tiny, not so "tiny" but a healthy girl!!! I just turned 5 years old but I feel like I'm still a kitten! People always ask what my personality is like... well, it's wonderful! 😻

I love talking! I will sit and chat with you all day long if you'll let me. We can share stories together! I also love to cuddle so I'm hoping you'll make time every day to let me lay on your lap and snuggle! Nothing is better than taking a 💤 with humans, so let's get cozy!

One other thing that would just make my whole day (aside from my very own family, of course) is a kitten condo 🏠 or cat tower! It is so much fun to sit high and watch all the action going on around me!

Patches is pretty cool too 😎! He's only 10 months old and people tend to like his sweet tux-like coat.

He's a bit more independent than I am. He likes to be pet and chill out with his humans but doesn't love being held. Believe it or not, that's fairly common in cats. 😼

With that said, he is hilarious! He stretches and sprawls out, leaving only a small portion of the bed for anyone else to enjoy. He loves to sleep. 🌙

That's probably because he plays so hard! Running, jumping, chasing, exploring - yep that's Patches! He's a good kid! 😺

We both LOVE other pets, of all kinds! So if you've got a house full of animals and kids, we are both a great fit! Bring us into the mix... one or both! 😽🐶🧒👶

We are rooting for each other to get adopted, so don't feel bad if you can't take us both. Though, if we are being purrfectly honest, we'd love to go together! 😹😸 The nice thing about that is you won't need to acclimate us! Which makes for a smooth transition into our new digs!

We just need a family who will keep us FOREVER! We've both been dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered! 🧡💜

UPDATE: after being examined by the vet, we have unfortunately come to the conclusion that euthanasia would be the most humane option for Precious. She was extremely skinny and had low platelets, making her a very poor candidate for surgery and very high risk for complications. And without surgery she had no reasonable chance of survival. After careful discussion, we decided it was best to end her suffering. Thank you everyone who has donated and shared ❤️

We just got a call about a sweet 3 month old kitten with a severely pr*****ed a**s. We rushed down to pick her up and our volunteer is on the way to bring her to Mountain West Veterinary Specialist ER now, but it's almost certain she will need surgery as it's been pr*****ed for at least 24 hours. We can't promise she will make it, but it's not necrotic yet and we are going to try our hardest to give this sweet little girl a chance to survive. She is alert and meowing and just wants attention!

Sharing again... we are in crunch time!

🏡 needed within 24 hours!

I just can't catch a break!
First, the only family I had ever known decided to dump me. Then, my temporary foster had family move in, which meant there was no room for me (plus it was way too chaotic for my liking) and NOW that I've finally adjusted to my NEW foster (it took about a month) they are moving and can't have pets where they are going.

I'm scared! What is going to happen to me? I'm so sad... why doesn't anyone want me???

Life is Good! 💕 The only thing that could make it better is if someone would choose me!!!

My name is "Joy" but my foster momma affectionately calls me "Joy Bear" 🧸 because I enjoy cuddling so much. It surprised her because it did take me some time to warm up, but hey, I tried telling everyone that I would get there if they were patient with me! 😹

Every night, my foster momma lets me to 💤 next to her, and I ❤️ it! I will lay patiently at the foot of her 🛌 and wait for her to lay down. Then I schmooze myself up to her tummy and snuggle! BEST feeling ever to be loved like that!!! I just can't wait for this feeling with my OWN pawrent one day! 😻

When her other (dumb) 🐈 🐈‍⬛️ come into the room, I choose to leave. I would LOVE to be your only Furbaby!!! Undivided attention sounds like the best thing ever! 😽

Though I might grow to tolerate a 🏡 with docile kids, dogs, another cat... I can't guarantee it. I am a girl who wants to be selfish with my human - just you and me! 🥰😻

I LOVE to play... A LOT! 🧶🪶 A cat tree or a cat tower with balls would be catactular!

In fact, some might say I'm a purrfect cat 😹 because I like to play as often as I cuddle AND I know all the rules so you don't have to worry about me knocking things over or having accidents! I'm a very good girl of I say so myself!

Oh, and my coat is so soft. 😽💋 I enjoy showing that off and hope you are willing to pet me often.

Do you think we would make a good furever team? I just don't want to enter my senior years in foster care. 😿💦I was on my own long enough, and even though I have it pretty good right now, don't you ever just want something of your own? 💞 Yeah, me too! I want someone I can meow "Mommy" or "Daddy!"

I might just need a little 🕝 to adjust to new surroundings (again) but I promise you'll ❤️ me, and I'll love🩷you!

My foster momma insists the wait will be worth it! She always tells people that I am a "sweet butterball and then I become a real ham!" 😹

This sweet duo are so desperate for a family to call their own that they (along with their momma) have been faithful in returning to a strangers porch knowing they will get a meal. We want to do more for them!!! Let's get them into a warm home with a family to cuddle. We guesstimate they are only 5 months old and momma is not too much older, being such a petite little lady! Our Story

A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR) is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit Utah-based organization. Our goal is to thoughtfully reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates; improve Weber and Davis Counties’ animal welfare with compassion and respect through community building and public education on the mutual benefits of responsible pet parenting; and enhance the quality of life of companion animals in need of a new beginning and a forever home. We strive to ensure that each and every animal rescued by ANBAR is cared for; treated with compassion, respect, and dignity. While we are located in the Roy-Layton-Ogden, UT area, we also partner with local and regional groups and accept transfer rescues from throughout northern Utah and the surrounding states. ANBAR does not turn away any companion animals but welcomes them regardless of their condition and do not place a time limit on their stay with us. We believe that euthanasia should be used only as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering – such as when an animal is terminally ill, critically injured, or dying. ANBAR embraces a multi-prong strategic service approach to contribute to reach our goal of reducing the number of adoptable animals euthanized each year. Our services include: *Rehoming and Adoption opportunities and events for ANBAR companion animals *Spay/neuter of ANBAR animals, to effectively reduce the problems of pet overpopulation *Veterinary care for ANBAR animals *Volunteer foster care program to provide housing for rescued or surrendered companion animals, until a qualified forever home is found *Volunteer foster care for special needs animals *Volunteer public education and training programs Rehome and Adoption Opportunities and Events: ANBAR is gratified to have a long-standing special partnership with Petco in holding adoption events every Saturday - without exception - at the Petco store in Layton, UT, since our inception in 2008. Additionally, up to 3 kittens and young cats are displayed at the Petco store for adoption, and rotated weekly to increase visibility and opportunity. Nearly 5,000 companion animals (kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs – and rabbits) have found homes through our adoption events as a result of this joint endeavor.
