Did you think that because I tell you, as a client. No furniture allowed. When a dog first comes home from training, and everything needs to transition properly... that I mean forever? No 👎 (although rarely are my dogs on furniture, they prefer the cold tile and not convinced they like when their human sister gets them up to try to smoosh mom) but much like we always start ON LEASH, then dropped leash, then off leash.... furniture privileges are earned privileges. Why? Well why do you have your children earn walking around the block by themselves through repetition and trust? Why do they earn the keys to a car through respect, repetition and trust? Why do we let them earn cooking in your kitchen? Swimming alone? Babysitting others? Getting a job? Etc etc etc

Earned privileges are easily taken away if bad decisions are made . Especially if that kid driving dads car let's it go to their head. Privileges are earned through consistent competent good decisions. For behavior, safety, and maturing the mind through guidance and assistance with rules and boundaries. Respect.

But keep on giving that 15 yr old a free porche without earning it. You'll have some replacement parts and behavior modifications pop up. Much like most dogs initially coming in to training. Start off right... we bypass the drama and life is fluid ❤️ just because they behave for me, as much as humans like robots, dogs are living thinking beings and know who's let them walk all over whom. Teaching them to listen to grandma and mom and dad...does NOT come only from a click of a button. It comes through relationship building and consistency in expectations

But... if I want it...I'll always have dogs to train 🐕

When people say...oh my dog is friendly... yet it's the cause of majority of issues. Lol such a drama. Yet a well deserved and good placed correction. Over excited dogs are not "just playing" mich like a kid who is excited and Knicks another kid down...oh they are just playing excuse. Dogs coming in face to face with no respect. Is not socializing. Also why most dog parks are not the place to teach young dogs socialization or manners. They are places dogs who already well socialized and balanced could go... wishful thinking of a dog trainer. Lol story of my life. No. The pattie was not in the wrong at all. He let that dog know he was making him very uncomfortable from the get go. Just like I'd not let a stranger walk up to my child and just hug her. I'd not allow a strange dog either. Great video.

Many of you know we are huge proponents of keeping your pets lean and fit. Unfortunately (particularly in the States), many people don't know what a lean dog is supposed to look like. Owners of healthy, lean dogs are always being told their dogs are "too skinny" when in fact they are not. We are just used to seeing overweight dogs and think that's normal.

Here's one of our favorite visual comparisons from malnourished (too thin) to obese. The middle two pics are healthy lean dogs. From the side, you should see a nice tuck behind their ribs and a noticeable hourglass waist when looking down on their back. And for some short coat dogs, yes seeing one or two ribs is OK!

Keeping your dogs at the low end of their healthy weight range will not only help their joints and prevent disease, studies have shown that dogs which are kept at a lean weight, live two years longer than overweight dogs!

📷 Thanks Midwest Canines for this great visual. ♥️
