Reva is the fourth pup from our Beau/Dasha litter to get a Prize 1 in the NA test!

Congratulations to Coppershot Griffons Reva on achieving your NAVHDA Natural Ability Prize 1😀

Reva came to CGD in the spring of 2024 and joined our board & train program. She spent 4 months with us and completed the CGD advanced obedience and Steady to shot bird hunting programs.

We also took the opportunity to prep and handel Reva through her NAVHDA Natural Ability test this past weekend before she went home.

Reva went home with a NAVHDA NA prize 1, completed her advanced obedience and is demonstrating steady to shot on her birds.

We look forward to Reva returning to CGD in 2025 to go through our advanced hunt training “Finished Gun Dog” (NAVHDA Utility Dog training program). We plan to train and handle Reva in the 2025 NAVHDA Utility Dog test.

Thank you North Point Alberta Navhda Chapter for hosting a great test and to the NAVHDA judges that volunteer their time to evaluate our dogs!😀

This bright eyed youngster has come a long way! The picture on the right was on March 4, 3 days after birth passed out milk drunk on momma. The picture on the left is today after playtime and a positive pigeon drill. Amos, now River is going to make one heck of a bird dog.

Years ago when researching Griffs I came across a comment that said they are “messy drinkers” How messy can they be I thought. Turns out pretty messy, and I still would not trade them for anything! However, a Slopper Stopper beats a bucket hands down.

Hazel and her first Positive Pigeon Drill. Watch how she tries to get the pigeon. She sits. This is often an issue with a puppy that has learned that sit gets it what it wants. Notice how I do not give her the bird unless she is standing still. By the time we move on to birds in launchers she will be slamming into a point when she sees me pull the bird from the bag. Soon we will get that same excitement when she hits the scent.

Ripley and Hazel ran a brace in the freshly mowed bird field today. No birds. Just two puppies learning to search on their own. They thought they were going to ride home on the seat. Sorry girls, puppies have to ride in the crate.

3 days ago I lost this in a training field and did not have it turned on. I thought it was gone forever, but my son in law Christian Stekl for the win! He showed up with a metal detector and located it. The training dogs who were going to have to run with one less bird are as happy as I am. Thanks Christian!!

Hank (aka Billy from the Chicago litter) came out tonight for a positive pigeon drill and an intro to bird launchers. Even got a little search started. It’s so much fun to see our Coppershot pups thriving in their new homes. Good on ya Greg Scott!

Four Coppershot Griffs tested this weekend in SD. Three finished Junior Hunter titles. Iggy needed 3 passes out of the four for her SH but only got two. I will take the fault as handler for both walks of shame. 1) Did not work steadiness this spring from a sight point (bird was in a wheel track and Iggy held the bird for me to walk 75 yards while a dog was backing her) to much excitement and she broke before the shot. 2) delayed chase of a handled bird in the back field. I should have heeled her farther off. She handled the bird again through the shot but it’s a no no. Sorry Iggy. Congrats to Tucker and Christian, Aaron and Arlo and Paisley even with Troy as her handler passed all 4 legs today.

Thanks to all the volunteers who made the test happen! You did a great job!

We keep cheese balls in the kennel as our high value dog treat. The big jar has not made it out to the kennel yet. Because Pam likes them too the dogs know where they are and that if Pam will grab a few for herself she will grab a few for them also. They are not wrong.

Ace has an enthusiastic retrieve. His problem is that he mouths the object, flipping and tossing it on the return. The solution is not throwing more bumpers. The solution is teaching proper hold. Session 2 on lead.

Tucker from our “Bye Bye Birdie” litter threw down on a few homers this morning. This 6mo puppy is beginning to put the pieces together. Garmin Dogtra Purina Pro Plan Fido-Vite

Lexie does not spend a lot of time training anymore but she still loves to get in the field. Note my handler/gunner error: I begin to narrate for the camera that I am going to stop the video to shoot, only I begin with “alright”. Which is also the release command. Lexie thought she was allowed to flush the bird and was going to do just that. She is such a team player that a “whoa” stopped her. She finished the sequence with a beautiful retrieve. Good girl Lexie Lou!

We have had a ton of Tuckers this summer. We have one of our own. I am realizing the need for annunciation when I say the name or the neighbors may think I am saying something different 😂😂. Nevertheless this little Tucker is showing he likes birds. A couple more positive pigeon drills and he will hit the field to learn to use his nose.

One of my favorite things. When a puppy that was whelped here comes back for puppy camp. Tucker- firstborn of the Bye Bye Birdie litter arrived today and has started orientation.

Beau and Iggy were told not to get in the pool. They thought “NO” was optional because they were way to cool. Now both are sad And begging their dad Who sits in his chair feeling cruel. #grifflife
